Peaceful

The negatives- we never had enough towels and washcloths in our room for a family of four and the continental breakfast was very pathetic. The positives- it was in a quiet peaceful location, the room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Was not happy, we booked a new hotel...

When I booked this trip I was ecstatic. We were booking a room that had a fireplace, a small walk to the beach, large vaulted ceilings, tons of room, a kind sized bed and a tub and shower. It looked clean, spacious and pretty. When we arrived though, they pointed us to our room. It was $189 a night and looked like a hostel. We walked over to the corner building, opened the door and were awes struck... it was TINY! The bed was one of those old gross covers not the comforters it pictured.. no fireplace, the room was the size of the double bed and the shower looked like a KOA campground shower. We were grossed out and not happy! We immediately called on our booking for a full refund. We ended up at another hotel down the street. They gave us a HUGE discount for a kind sized bed, large room with a HUGE jacuzzi tub. This hotel was not as pictured.

Not a good time

I have been staying at the Lighthouse for about 20 years and this last stay I would rate as a low Motel 6. I was so disappointed in room and could not believe I had to pay $200.00 for spending the night in a "dump". First off, the only window, other than the bathroom, would not close all the way. Therefore you could hear all the noise next door, which was another hotel. No fans of any kind and the room was so hot and stuffy, we had to leave the door open. The bathroom was another experience!! It looked like a red-necked patchwork mirror over the sink that had pipes exposed and wrapped in some type of silver foil. Towel rack bar fell out a few times clanging on the floor and the sink was clogged. Shower wasn't much better, I think it was made to roll a wheelchair directly in it. Water press was like a mist coming out. Pretty bad, we didn't sleep at all and will not go back. We are looking for another hotel to stay at next time we go. Stinky musty smell as you opened the door. Really!!! So disappointed.

Nice location, quaint and simple

We stayed one night. The pool and jacuzzi were nice and the breakfast was great (love the hot breakfast!). The room was very basic and no premium cable, it was more fine for a simple one night experience. If we are back in Pacific Grove and stay here again we will book a suite for more comfort.

Location

It all depends on what you are looking for in an accommodation. What this place has is its location in Pacific Grove. It is a residential district near a picturesque sea coast. It is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle with a nice town center and shops just down the road. The facility has two properties. The one we stayed in was a duplex style, two story next to the pool on the motel side. The rooms were clean and facility well kept . I liked the low key ambiance. Breakfast of eggs and potatoes is served buffet style and burgers and salad for dinner and is included in the room. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. The only downside is there is obvious deferred maintenance, which shows as a tattered shade, or a coat of paint needed here or there and other wear and tear. But the owners recently purchased the place and are in the process of repairing these things. For the price you are getting a much better location, more comfortable room than the standard strip motels in downtown Monterrey. I gave the place 4 stars because Orbit says 3 is just average, the setting makes this a bit more than average. The rooms are average to slightly less, depending on what "average" is.

Wonderful Getaway

Mother/daughter getaway at a great location and at a great price. This facility is a favorite of mine and my family. Breakfast and BBQ dinner included in the price. Off the main street so quiet and so close to the beach.

Great location and a great price

We stayed at the Lighthouse Inn while driving up the coast to San Francisco. We stayed at 4 hotels on the trip, and this was by far the best. There was a short delay in checking in so we were upgraded to a suite. It was a beautiful room. The staff was so friendly. Even the painter gave us directions. The breakfast was the best free breakfast I have had at a hotel. I was sorry we only stayed only one night.

If you need a dive to crash in....

Well, let's just say the location is great. Worth two stars, and then nothing else gets a star. It's a bit of a dump, which I can deal with on occasions. We reserved a roll away, didn't get one and when they finally bought one, it clearly had been retrieved from the dump. I would not let my kid sleep on it, unless I wanted to torture him for information. We opted for a makeshift bed of blankets (really tattered ones) and sheets on the floor instead. Oh, did I mention the oppressive smell of paint? I think they had just painted a few hours earlier that day. Fresh paint, a plus, not airing out the room , a huge minus. We needed the doors & windows open for at least an hour. The breakfast wasn't bad, and the staff was nice enough, too bad the owners don't care about the property. Just a little TLC and it would a great little spot. It is a great location. The only thing between it and the ocean is the cemetary, nice and quiet! We brought our bikes and all rode to the Monteray Aquarium. Two 12 year olds and a 7 year old. Great riding area.
