Clarion Hotel Downtown Oakland City Center

I was happy with how clean the room was. This location is close to the meeting I had to attend.

I needed a place without distractions so that I could focus on a weekend of writing. I had all the quite I needed, just enough space on the desk to spread my laptop and reference materials while listening to the game. I spent hours writing without realizing there weren't any distractions, not even traffic noise. On this trip I didn't want anything fancy. But I did notice how clean the room was, how comfortable the pillow-top bed felt, and how big the bathroom was. Overall, when I need a separate space to write, this will be my first choice.

No frills, no excitement, but good value. Close to the BART and downtown Oakland. New bar 'Tribune Tavern' just opened a block away, which will be a great neighborhood add. Don't walk alone if you are a woman travelling at night. But otherwise, I'd stay there again, for the value.

The hotel clerk was pleasant and helpful. There are two restaurants located inside the hotel. I tried their Indian restaurant. It was excellent. There are two complaints however. Parking here is difficult. I had to try and fit my large sedan into a tight spot, and could not do so. I ended up parking in another lot a few blocks away. The other issue I had was with their heating. It would turn on, but would not turn off by itself when it reached a certain temperature.

The hotel was nice and clean. Parking fees were confusing. The hotel attendant told me to pay $5.00 in the automatic parking machine to obain a ticket, which was good for 24 hours. The five dollars only paid for parking until 11:59 p.m. and had checked in at 8:00 p.m. After we came back to the hotel at 3:00 a.m. we had to insert another $6.00. Also, the tv was not working nor the remote. We went downwnstairs to get batteries and it still didn't work. We attempted to call front desk but the phones didn't work. No sound, nothing. What if it was a 911?

If you want a clean, neat hotel room for less than $100.00 a night in downtown Oakland near Bart Stations and Lake Merritt, the Clarion is a great value. There are not many extras, but the housekeeping staff keeps the rooms spotlessly clean and neat, and the management staff is very helpful. The elevator can be cranky, but when you consider the nearby Marriott is charging $100 more a night, the Clarion is a great value.

newly renovated, clean and quiet. Right by BART. Negative. Walk from BART (4 minutes) seems a bit dicey, but nothing ever happened, even late at night. Elevator stopped working for one night. The staff are magnificent. No ink in printer in business room? No problem Desk manager (great guy!) printed out behind desk.

Nice clean hotel good location, but room was very small almost uncomfortable. Parking garage charged $30. overnight.

This by far was the smallest room I have ever stayed in. If you just want to have a place to sleep this is the place. I would not stay there again.

Met our needs for a clean room near Berkeley. Only there for a few hours- pillows & linens a plus, room was small but met our needs fine. I would go back if I needed a bed for the night.
