Monterey Surf Inn

This is just a "Run if the mill" hotel. There was never anybody at the desk, you had to ring a bell. The room was very small. You took two steps into the room and you were on the bed. The bathroom door was spring loaded. Who does this? Don't even think about using the pool! It was dirty and right off the main road.

Booked this hotel for one night. Very close to shopping and all the places we wanted to go. Room was very clean. Clearly the room had been recently remodeled which was nice. Only thing that made me give this place a four instead of a five was that the lady at the front desk asked me for my credit card. When I gave it to her I specifically asked if she would be putting a hold on it, to which she replied no. Well, when I walked out of the front office I immediately received a chase alert on my phone saying she had charged me $20. So I went back and asked her about it and she said yes they authorize $20 for security reasons but it would come off in two days. It's not the $20 that bothered me it's the fact that I asked if she was going to authorize funds on my card and she said no. But anyway, overall very good place to stay. They even have some breakfast snacks you can eat in the morning which really was a life saver for me because I woke up feeling sick, but once I got some food in my system though, I was ready for the day! Would stay here again, definitely.

Hotel was very plain, and the amenities were the bare minimum. Staff was not welcoming, but short and to the point. Good location, but I expected a bit more for the price I paid, and i could have gotten more at other places for the price I paid.

Although the cleaning staff were hard-working women, and the rooms were pretty clean, the office area was filthy .. windows dirty, wet rags on the ground. The rooms have lights up in the ceiling but no floor lamps and NO BEDSIDE LAMPS so a person could lie in bed and read. In all my hundreds of stays in (even cheap grade) motels on three continents, I've never seen such a weird thing!

This hotel was awesome for the price. I've stayed at places that cost a lot more a night and the rooms aren't half as good.

this place was clean and comfy! The staff was great and the location was even better!!

Monterey and Carmel are magical times to attend some great yogi and spiritual retreats that go on year round here. As someone who misses the coast very much, the Monterey Surf Inn made me feel comfortable and welcome. The entire stay experience was simple, safe, and easy. This allowed my attention for my higher self, and plenty of contemplation for good karma :)

Good location and price. Room was bare minimum but clean. Needs nicer blankets but overall if you are just looking for someplace to sleep and shower-it works.
