Great hotel at a steal of a value!
The pros: - While checking in, the receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. She made sure our room was ready, and was kind enough to upgrade our room (free of charge) while checking in. I guess it was because we came early and the room wasn't ready, and made us come back (one of the cons). - The area was very quiet. There was not much noise during the night and morning, and we rested peacefully. -They do allow pets in the room for a charge of around $50 per night, however no pet was brought here. -The room we had was probably a suite since it had a small living room and bedroom. The king size bed was awesome! They even provided guests with complimentary bathrobes! I felt like Ric Flair while wearing it (pro wrestling reference ;)). The fireplace was a nice touch, and the bathroom was so nice! Along with this room, we were given a complimentary rollaway bed. Didn't use it, but it was nice to have. The room felt like you weren't at a hotel, but in luxurious getaway room! -Housekeeping did a great job on cleaning the room while we were away (tips were given!). -The hotel was a couple of miles away from Cannery Row, and across the street from a shopping center and eateries. - The room was also decorated very nicely! For the price we paid for this room, we consider this a steal for us! And the room had a patio to eat and hang out during the time you're in the room. The cons: -However, despite having a patio in the room, it was not a good idea to have a shared patio with the room next door. My significant other got real scared when she saw someone walking by the patio, in the morning. I hope they are able to put some sort of barricade that will allow each room to have their own patio. -AC/Heater was loud. I wish it had some sort of timer, too. When the heater was left on, the room got hot - quickly! -The shower was disappointing, meaning there was not enough hot water for us. I hope they can fix that. In addition, their internet was flimsy. -I guess this can be a minor con, but they were renovating the hotel and made the exterior not look presentable, but I appreciate the attempted improvements. Overall: This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Seriously. Like really. Like HELLA seriously!

cozy and warm
when we arrived we were greeted by a very nice young lady. she quickly checked us into our room. we parked in a nice covered parking garage . our room was everything it was advertised and more.the spa was great the bed was perfect not like quite a few others we have stayed at in this area. breakfast was nice .there was quite a selection of pastries and bagels along with oatmeal and coffee and tea. We stayed here for 2 nights while we visited our son and his girlfriend in college. everyone here on staff was very friendly especially Arianna (i think that was her name)at the front desk, she was a wealth of information especially for those of us that are not natives to the area. This is a motel i would definitely refer to a friend and i would stay in the future..Thank you to the staff at the Mariposa

Pretty to look at, not much underneath
I have to say I was a little underwhelmed with this hotel. I booked it on a 2 week road trip as our 1 'extra nice' room to break up the average hotels we'd be staying at for longer. Everything looks really modern and clean, but there was a lot of road noise, the bathroom sink wasn't attached to the countertop, and the bed was on some sort of metal platform that made a lot of noise when you got in or out of bed, and slid away from the headboard if you tried to sit up in bed to watch TV or read. I know it's true of every hotel but the photos of the place make it seem a lot nicer than it is. There was complimentary bottled water, so that's a plus, but there was also a surly front desk worker who said in no uncertain terms that check in is at 3pm, not 2 pm or 2:30 pm, which I understand, he just could've been nicer about it. The continental breakfast was not on par with the Best Westerns we had stayed at earlier in the trip either, which seems odd since it costs so much more. It's not a bad hotel, but it's not worth $200 a night.

Great comfort, little price to pay
Although the hotel looks alright from the outside, the interior of the room as well as the amenities are comparable with 5 star hotel. While checking in, we saw the award winning signage in the lobby that indicates the hotel is great with only 20 staff members to achieve a new level of comfortness for the visitors of Monterey. I would definitely come back.

Small and loud
I had a ground floor room that was facing the main driveway and just feet from parking spaces. There was no seal on the door and the noise from cars coming and going was annoying. The room itself was really small, but the decor was decent. For the amount I paid, I expected more. I did enjoy the hot tub and pool.
