Cypress Gardens

You could not use the pool and didn't want to because it was filthy dirty. The hot tub was open, but I never saw any one in it. You had to use your room key to get a cup of ice, and once you used your key in the ice machine it would lock you out of your room. The bathroom was not very clean either. After all of this planning for a special get-a-way weekend for the 2 of us we were both disappointed and left extremly early for home.

Americas Best Value Cypress Garden Inn

BAD!!!!! My child cried and begged me not to stay there. Locks on doors broke and wouldnt lock, heater in room when turned on put strong smelling fumes into the entire room, staff didn't seem to care, cracks in the front door, property is dark, creepy and dead looking..... I demanded my money back. I had to pay one night which was worth getting out of that dump. Went to the Clarion down the street that was INCREDIBLE for close to the same price as Cypress. DO NOT STAY AT CYPRESS!!!!!!!

Don't like mice crawling on me at night
Sacramento, CA

Overrun with MICE!

On 2 occasions mice ran over me while I was falling asleep. The second time there were 2 mice. We could hear them scratching around on the floor. The only one who slept was our 2 year old - between us. In the morning we found mice droppings on the sheets & blankets. When I told the front desk person about it the next morning he was shocked & said he had never had this problem before, however he said he had lots of mouse traps in the back room & he could have given us one of those for our room. Hmmmm. He did say he could have changed our room, however, this was already around 11pm (we had a 2 year old) and how were we to know that the other rooms weren't worse?!

Not so great

Our room was in need of repairs: screen door broken, bathroom window didn't lock, and the tub did not drain (filled 3/4 full during shower and didn't drain for next persons shower - gross) It was nice to have a fridge and microwave and the continental breakfast was okay. Lots of other hotels on this block we would try if we visited again.

Unfriendly Staff

I checked into the Cypress Garden Inn in Monterey at about 1:30 pm. The lady behind the counter pointed out to me that check in time was 3:00 pm and I was too early to check in but she would see if any rooms were ready. Next she asked me how many people were going to occupy the room and I told her two. During the check-in process she asked me that question 3 more times and each time she did she would look out the window in the direction of my car as if to see if I was sneaking a whole group of people in...mind you I am 49 years old. My party nights are long over. When I check into a hotel room it is to get some sleep. If anything more happens...well, I consider that a bonus! When I had first walked in I put on the counter my drivers license and credit card and it was sitting there right in front of me. She asked me for it and when I pointed to it on the counter in front of her she told me she needed me to pick it up and hand it to her. After she took copies and an inprint she handed them back to me and I put it away. Five minutes later she asked for them again with no explanation why. The whole check-in process appeared that she didn't trust me or want me to stay there. Overall the property was in a good location but it looked a bit under-cared for. Weeds in the planters, grass wasn't mowed, spa was out of order. My main complaint was that the staff was so unfriendly. I paid a good amount for that room. Almost anywhere but Monterey I would have paid half the price. Because I paid more I expect to get better service. It doesn't cost a hotel any more to treat a guest with courtesy and respect, especially when paying more than usual.

Get what you pay for.

This was a convenient location and a low price, but such a strong cleaning agent smell that was difficult to air out of the room.

I want to hear...."no problem..."

The location of this hotel is close to downtown attractions and a great shopping mall up the hill on the same street! However, I was unable to park my car after I returned to the hotel after a late dinner. Parking is very limited and squashed in between trees, a carport and a one way alleyway around the hotel site. The bathroom had a granite countertop, but the tub, window, fan/heater, and floor were in poor repair and should have been upgraded or replaced. Noises from other bathrooms were very loud, especially when the shower was running in other rooms. The room heater was efficient but very old style. An old ironing board was in the wardrobe style closet but there was NO IRON in sight. I called the office in the morning to ask for the iron...and I got an answering machine instead of a live person. When I called the second number listed on the phone hanging outside of the office...the same guy that checked me into my room told me that the deskclerk wouldn't be there until 8:00 a.m. I was out of luck and went to the graduation in suitcase wrinkled clothes. On my way out of the driveway...I saw the same guy that checked me into my room unlocking the door to start his day. He WAS the deskclerk. The room itself was clean but the furniture was laminated wood and too much of it was crammed in the room along with an upright oscillating fan, a small table, two chairs, an entertainment center, refrigerator, and freestanding closet wardrobe. I think they could have laid out the furniture a little better. Everything would have been just fine if he had just gone out of his way to bring me an iron...or apologize that it wasn't in the room...but I didn't hear anything like that. I probably won't be staying there again.

You could get better for the price!

Was close to cannery row, wharf, and aquarium. We enjoyed the spa, but the pools water was nasty. If you are a smoker do not stay here. There is NO SMOKING ON THE PROPERTY AT ALL!! You have to walk out of your room and out to the street to smoke! The breakfast they offer was good.( Juice, coffee, rolls, muffins, cereal, toast, Fruit)[...]The bed was very hard!Room has micro/refridge.
