Walk to Everything for cheap.

I really don't care about hanging in my hotel room when I'm in Monterey; there's just too much to DO out there!. What I want is a comfortable bed and clean room to SLEEP in. This hotel offered both for much less than the competition. And easy walk to ALL. Not for everybody, and I'm happy for that so I will have less competition for a cheap, Clean place to stay on future visits.

America's Best Value Inn- True to its Name

...Of course, that is all relative. Staying here on a Thursday night before MotoGP, $68, or whatever is was, was not bad. It was a place to sleep. This was exactly a get what you pay for type of deal, so the price paid for the location was extremely cheap, but it had its tradeoffs. Do not put your expectations high on this place- it is for the non-picky traveler on a budget. Location was great, and it had a large swimming pool and hot tub, which were perfect for my evening. I rated pretty high due to the value for price paid- that doesn't mean this place is fancy or anything (actually, the 60s exterior decor and office are quite the eye sore). I had only stayed at America's Best Value Inn once before, again, a get what you pay for type of deal, in downtown Los Angeles, but I really wasn't happy staying there due to the RUDE service at the desk, but here the man at the counter was super friendly and accommodating! The first room we got was only one bed, when I had requested a room with a wheel-in bed also. The man at the desk read my reservation when I arrived as two beds, and that's what I thought he was talking about. When we saw a room with one bed that we were given, we went back to the office and were moved upstairs to a room with two queens, however the shower wasn't working, and it was bath option only, in that room (but the bed number worked out better for our needs). Also many broken things at this inn. This location also has a nice ocean view.

Decent accommodations in good location

Not fancy and slightly run down but walking distance to Cannery Row restaurants. Fixtures and furniture were showing their age but they and the room were clean. Low price was the prime attraction.

Great Amenities

The staff at this hotel are nice and friendly. The location is near a disc golf course and Highway 1, a short drive to fisherman's wharf and a short walk to sites of historic interest along Monterey SHP Path to History. The pool is large and both it and the jacuzzi were great, we also had accesses to the pool from our balcony. The hotel is old and in need of updates. It was clean just old. Starting with the bed, really thin sheets and a blanket that looked to have cigarette burns on it. The TV was a tube TV with good channels but half of them did not have sound. Heater is an old wall heater that smelt when we first turned it on, it also makes the tiles in the bathroom scorching hot. The water pressure in the shower sucks.

Got the the many sites along the Path to History. See where the California Constitution was signed at Colton Hall and where CA was claimed for America at Customs Plaza. Tons of cool places to see!

Not too bad

For the price I wouldn't say the room was bad. I think we paid like $50 for the night. We drove down to the beach and ate dinner. The room was clean but the hotel DOES NOT have A/C. It was still nice and cool bc the room had a fan but in the hotter months this might not be good. The room was clean but the bathroom was a little gross. Again, for $50 it wasn't bad. The room was big and the landscaping was nice. The hot tub was nice to relax in at night. If your a "frills" type of person you might not like it but for the price it was ok for a night or two.

Could have always been worse...

My wife and I spent one night at this hotel in hopes of saving a little money while on a trip to Monterey where we knew we would be spending money away from the hotel! Anyways, one of the first things we notices when getting into our room (after dealing with the front desk, which was very nice and fast) was that air conditioning for your room was a Harbor Breeze stand alone fan. Um...? Really? That was a bit of a turn off. The next thing was the worst... We pulled back the covers and found a piece of a bloody band-aid stuck to the sheets!!!! We called the front desk and told them and wished to have our bedding changed. Naturally we had hoped for a room discount or something, but nothing of the sort. However, the hotel owner met us at the room within minutes and moved us to another room. That was kind of nice. All was well from there until sleeping on the bed, which was like sleeping directly on springs! They were so stiff that I woke up with a krink in my neck! Not good! When we woke up the next morning, thanks to the low-flow toilets, our toilet clogged immediately. We called the front desk, and they said they would send a maintenance person right over. Unfortunately, "sending the maintenance staff right over," to them meant 30 minutes! Not good when you have to use the restroom and there isn't one in the lobby of your hotel otherwise. Needless to say, spending the amount we did on this room for one night was not worth it, but by looking at the hotel, you should expect what we got. I wouldn't recommend staying here, unless it's a last resort.

DO NOT go to Cannery Row Brewing Company. You will have the worst restaurant experience of your life. The staff is rude, they run around like they don't know what they are doing, our waiter had NO IDEA what was in the food when asked to describe a meal for us, it's over priced, and you just wont enjoy it. Avoid at all costs.

Great room for the price!

This hotel was perfectly adequate for our needs. It was very clean, big comfortable beds, they cleaned the bathroom after the first night, there is a relatively big mini fridge, microwave, closet, and coffee maker. It also includes a free continental breakfast. The food isn't anything to write home about but it's free and certainly adequate. For $35 a night what more could I ask? The staff was very friendly and eager to please. Our thermostats didn't work but they did their best to fix them. It's right off of the freeway which was good for our purposes but maybe not the best if you are concerned with being right in downtown. There was a view of the ocean from the parking lot which was a lot better than I expected. Overall, a great place to stay if you are looking for cheap clean digs in Monterey.

A week in Monterey

The staff were friendly and amenable. The location is good, easy walking distance to downtown Monterey. The rooms could be improved, the decor is old, the bathroom light did not work consistently or the heating. But for the price and location it was ok.
