Memorial Weekend get away

I stayed at the LA hotel Downtown for Memorial weekend, and my experience was great. Room was clean. Well decoraded. Staff was helpful. One night My room key stop working, and right away the lady that cleans the rooms approched me and offer help. She had someone from the front desk come up and bring a new key to our room. The only thing I'm very disappointed at is that I got overcharged. I booked my room through Orbiz and I just realize the hotel also charged me for the room. My bank account has gone overdraft now, and my car payment didn't go through because of the hotel charge. I'm just glad I cought the overpayment. I wonder how many times they do this. How many people do not actually realize the have gotten charged twice.

LA DOWNTOWN

The hotel should have noted that they were under construction before I booked. I may have elected to stay elsewhere. The noise was annoying and the rep who checked me in was annoyed that I was concerned, but did not go above to make any special provisions. The bartender Lauren was amazing and was extremely nice. I'd go back just to visit her at the bar.

Downtown Marriott

The hotel facilty is very nice but the service was very ordinary. I expected much better service for the price of the room and the extra $30 for one night of parking. I made a couple of minor requests to the housekeeping/front desk and I had to make repeated calls to get my items. I also ordered an apple pie with ice cream and I had to wait too long to get it and then the pie was cold after I requested that it be hot. These situations were annoying and the staff was not rude. There was nothing "bad" about the service but I could not recommend the hotel because the service did not match the price paid.

Seriously? charging for WIFI

The stay at the hotel was perfectly fine - well appointed, courteous staff, appropriate for the level this Marriott in downtown LA would attract. But seriously...charging for WIFI for a $240/night room is frankly absurb and insulting. WIFI is free at nearly every mid-priced hotel chain in the country now, including Marriott Courtyards. It felt like the incessant "asks" for upgrades and additional services that you get when checking in at the airline kiosks now. It just pisses off your customers. Stop it.

Not so great service or location

The room was clean and comfortable, bathroom was small and dark. There is no concierge. It's an interactive computer program which was not helpful. We asked for a cab and this fellow appeared who "works with the hotel but is the same price as a cab". Not true cost us 2x what a cab costs. Staff was very unconcerned about this but they provided him. If you just want a bed to sleep in, okay but anything else, try the Westin across the street.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

There is no shopping close by, we had to cab it for 30 minutes. I called the hotel before I booked and asked. They are at Macy's Plaza. Then when we arrived the front desk person told me shopping is terrible there, go to The Grove or Bevely Centre.

Los Angeles Marriott Downtown

Our experience was very positive, hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We used this place as a basis for a short familiy vacation, very convenient to drive to Universal Studios, Hollywood/Beverly Hills area and Santa Monica. valet parking was very efficient and corteous, butt I felt we shouldn't be paying 30$ a night for it.
