Weekend in Chinatown

received an upgraded room. Room was nice and clean but door and wall were not noise proof at all. The one bad thing about this hotel is that we can hear all the noises next door and outside. It was not peaceful at all.

No too shabby

This place was nice for the price. I liked that you needed a key to take the elevator up to the rooms. It made me feel safer. The area is not horrible like some of the other places for the price. We were here for a Clippers game at Staples and the bus stop was right out front it was only $3 and a 10 min bus ride. My only complaint is that when I showered in the morning the bathtub would not drain! It kinda grossed me out but when I told the front desk they were so apologetic and they paged some sort of maintinence to come fix it!

Good hotel. The only problem was the $10 parking fee that you had to pay.

surprising good hotel for the price

I had to stay in Los Angeles for business on a Sunday evening. The Best Western Dragon Gate Inn is within easy walking distance from the LA Amtrak station, so I tried the hotel in spite of slight concerns about the neighborhood. The walk was fine, the neighborhood wasn't too bad, and the hotel was surprisingly good. The hallways were nothing special, but the room was very clean, had a nice little desk for work, and had modern bedspreads and decorations. All the plumbing worked well and they had plenty of clean towels. Breakfast was disappointing (you get a coupon for a little shop in the lobby that is somewhat like a convenience store), but they did have some healthy choices. On the whole, I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience and would definitely stay here again if I were looking for a clean place near the train station.

Close to Downtown and Union Station

Comfy room, quiet... close proximity to downtown, Dodger Stadium, union station. We were able to walk and take the bus/light rail to.. Grammy Museum, LA Live, Pasadena and Dodger Stadium. The free breakfast was surprisingly good.

Excellent Value in A Good Location

I have stayed in this hotel twice now, and I plan to go back. It is a good value and the staff is very cooperative and helpful. The breakfast that is part of the deal is bare bones but not unlike the breakfasts that are available at, say, Hampton Inns. I did enjoy their freshly made waffles and there freshy cooked hard boiled aggs. It is in a good location for exploring Chinatown and even Little Tokyo. The Chinese American Museum is fairly close as is Olvera Street with all of the Mexican carts. I really like this part of the city and I hope it keeps its charm.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

The sandwiches available at the small coffee shop at the hotel are decent (freshly made to order) and I ate half of a sandwich the first day and put the other half in the refrigerator to eat thenext day.

It's not the Ritz but it will do for those on a budget.

The location is good not because of the depressed neighborhood it's in but because it is very close to the Metro system, the downtown sights: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Union Station, City Hall, Olvera Street, and old LA Chinatown where food is a bargain. What could improve is the breakfast situation which is less than expected but not exactly horrible. If you are picky about everything this is not the place for you to stay but for those looking for a bargain and are flexible about details it's is a good choice. It is not a place to bring lots of little children as there is no place for them to play.
