Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim is a luxury resort displaying marvelous American Craftsman architecture. This style of design flourished during the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it's both elegant and rustic. There are more than 1,000 rooms at this tranquil hotel, which offers pool, courtyard and theme park views. The Grand Californian offers a water-lover's paradise, with a large swimming pool, a water slide that looks like a redwood tree, two smaller pools, and a pool just for kids. Several ballrooms and meeting spaces, an elaborate spa and fitness facility, and a gift shop round out the full hotel experience. Guests won't be short on dining options, with two lounges, a snack bar, the family-oriented Storyteller's Cafe, and the first-class restaurant Napa Rose all on-site.

Neighborhood
The Grand Californian looks out on Disneyland and is right next to Disney California Adventure. Disneyland, which opened in 1955, is packed with both cutting-edge and traditional rides and shows, and Disney California Adventure recreates scenes of California's yesteryears. For instance, a section of the park purposely resembles 1920s Los Angeles. Between these two parks is Downtown Disney, a lavish shopping and dining district with a huge range of activities on offer.
Hints and tips
Guests of the hotel have their own access for entering and exiting Disney California Adventure, making it easy to slip away from the park for a swim or a nap.
During check-in, ask the desk clerk if you can get a complimentary room upgrade - there are occasional openings and it's worth inquiring about.

Special Experience at Disneyland

The Grand California is a great hotel and helped make our family's Disney vacation special. Check-in was easy and efficient. Room was ready early and housekeeping did a great job during our stay. The hotel itself is well maintained and pretty spectacular in its own right. Enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the mornings and the fantastic piano player in the evenings. Being close to both parks is nice and makes it easy to take a break or breaks during the day. Staff were friendly and helpful. Everything you need is close by and while the cost is significant so are the benefits.

Can't get any closer!

The Grand Californian's main benefit - proximity to the parks - is its most valuable asset. Just remember: You are paying for the premium! The hotel would be a better value if the concierge club offerings had more variety. For the cost, the offerings were slim.

Great hotel

I had a great experience staying here with my 5-year-old son for his first visit to Disneyland. The hotel staff had us checked in, luggage stored and into the California Adventure park within minutes of arrival. The staff helped me with maps and instructions on the ins and outs of Magic Hours and Fast Passes and necessary info for first timers. The hotel is convenient to the park and is a clean and quiet oasis for a midday swim to get out of the heat. I will stay here again when we next visit.

Carthay Circle restaurant was more expensive but worth it for food and ambience a cut above your typical amusement park meal.

Location, location, location

The location of this hotel speaks for itself. With direct access to Downtown Disney and California Adventure, you can't ask for anything more convenient. However, the rooms are very small, dark, and cramped. The fact that we paid an extremely high price for a hotel room on a par with lower end hotels is not exactly what we were expecting from this hotel. They do not have extra beds so one of our children got the pleasure of sleeping on a thin camp mat with sleeping bag, on the floor, courtesy of the hotel. Not cool for a hotel charging 5 star rates and delivering 3 star service. Rooms service was typical of Disney resorts....bad. Don't waste money on room service. Had we not been staying for the proximity to the parks, we would have tried to cancel the reservation. Overall, we will not be staying at this resort again. The Disneyland Hotel was much better.

You can enter California Adventure straight from the hotel and it puts you right next to the fast pass for World of Color and the Grizzly River Run ride.

Disney fun

The main selling point for the hotel is the proximity to Disney's California Adventure park & Disneyland. It is very expensive for what you get but the proximity made it worth it for us.

Perfect Hotel with an even Better Location

This hotel is perfect for those who want a quick entry into the parks. It's located right next to Downtown Disney as well as California Adventure. It's also just about a 5 minute walk to Disneyland. The hotel was very clean, and staff was very helpful and friendly. It was a perfect stay for the "older" crowd. Seemed to have more of an adult atmosphere. The only downside to this hotel is the price. It seemed a bit overpriced for what you actually get. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay on Disneyland's property!

Location, Location, Location

You are paying a premium for location here, but it's worth it. We stayed at the hotel over the busy 4th of July weekend. As a hotel guest, you get into one of the parks (either Disneyland or California Adventure, depending on the day# an hour early. This was worth it to beat the 4th of July crowds, and we were able to knock out most of the very popular attractions #e.g. Radiator Springs Racers# without any line. The Grand Californian also has its own dedicated entrance to the California Adventure park #near Napa Rose/Mandara Spa). People start to line up at the turnstile about a half hour before the extra magic hour begins, and the line can move slowly. As far as room goes, it was pretty standard, but very clean. Pool is advertised as being heated, but water was still rather cold. Staff were all very friendly. All in all, we enjoyed our visit and will be back.

Fantastic family vacation

Staying in a hotel with access to one park and a 5 minute walk to the other is invaluable. The hotel staff were helpful and always available to answer questions. Kids loved the pool and water slide. We'd spend the morning in the parks and return in the afternoon to unwind by the pool. Our kids stayed in Pinocchio's Workshop one night while we had dinner at the Napa Rose, which was perfect for the kids and parents! I highly recommend this hotel for your next visit to Disneyland. The one recommendation I would have is to stay in a larger room than the basic room -- as a family of 4 with a 5 and 7 year old we were starting to feel cramped in the small quarters before the end of our stay.

We participated in three character meals during our stay. I'd skip the meal at Ariel's Grotto. Food was ok but the wait was long and we felt rushed while seated.
