Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim is a luxury resort displaying marvelous American Craftsman architecture. This style of design flourished during the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it's both elegant and rustic. There are more than 1,000 rooms at this tranquil hotel, which offers pool, courtyard and theme park views. The Grand Californian offers a water-lover's paradise, with a large swimming pool, a water slide that looks like a redwood tree, two smaller pools, and a pool just for kids. Several ballrooms and meeting spaces, an elaborate spa and fitness facility, and a gift shop round out the full hotel experience. Guests won't be short on dining options, with two lounges, a snack bar, the family-oriented Storyteller's Cafe, and the first-class restaurant Napa Rose all on-site.

Neighborhood
The Grand Californian looks out on Disneyland and is right next to Disney California Adventure. Disneyland, which opened in 1955, is packed with both cutting-edge and traditional rides and shows, and Disney California Adventure recreates scenes of California's yesteryears. For instance, a section of the park purposely resembles 1920s Los Angeles. Between these two parks is Downtown Disney, a lavish shopping and dining district with a huge range of activities on offer.
Hints and tips
Guests of the hotel have their own access for entering and exiting Disney California Adventure, making it easy to slip away from the park for a swim or a nap.
During check-in, ask the desk clerk if you can get a complimentary room upgrade - there are occasional openings and it's worth inquiring about.

Great place buuuut...

Great Hotel! Convenient and clean. However, as you know it's pricey and staying across the street for much less per night is probably just a value I can't pass up next time.

A "magical" experience

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful get-away ... just the two of us. Casually enjoying the hotel's many amenities, and the charming Disney influences. I'm always worried about noise, but the rooms are virtually soundproof! We'll be back.

Stay somewhere else

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. Rooms are incredibly small and not very clean. Service was just ok and there was no where to get food at the hotel since their Whitewater snacks and Napa Rose was closed. This will be our last stay at the Grand.

Awesome location, mediocre room

While the location was perfect for convenience to easily walk to Disney and California Adventure, the room was very ordinary for the price. The bathroom was actually really small and cramped and the room was pretty small itself. It barely had any "Disney" theme to the room. The lobby was gorgeous, but they could do a better job with the rooms.

Disney Vacation

Staff are friendly and helpful despite how busy they were. Hotel was pricey but the location can't be beat. We were there during exceptionally hot days and I felt like the hotel should have anticipated more people to be at the hotel during the afternoon. Many people were camped out in the lobby waiting to depart to the airport in the afternoon because it was too hot to be at the park. The pool area needs more shaded areas for lounge chairs. All in all we liked this hotel and would go back, it's location allowed us to enjoy more time at the park and lets be honest Disney is expensive.

Grand Cal GirlCation

We spent one day at Disneyland, one day in the park - and one day in the Mandara Spa. One of my friends and I live on the east coast, but grew up in SoCal, so this was a nostalgia thing for the two of us. My other friend lives here, within 20 minutes of Disney, but we wanted a room near the park so we could kick back and relax a bit midday. We had a concierge room, and I could not be happier with the stay! The Disney folk were nice, but all it takes is ONE employee to do some extra nice things for you, like guarantee a late checkout, for instance, and your vacation is golden. KEVIN on the 6th floor concierge desk did just that, and was a wonderful help during our brief stay. I would not stay anywhere else.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Mandara Spa is a lovely way to spend a few hours, or half a day just relaxing. If there are more than just you in the party, and you are checked out of your room, they have a pool key for the rest of the guests to enjoy the pool while they wait for you. ASK at the spa desk!

Would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind paying for quality

Great stay with husband and two kids. Requested a bunk room on checking in, there were not any available until our 3rd night there and they let us move to one when it was available. The first room we had was great, the second was even better as far as location and view (although my son said the bunk beds were uncomfortable). Staff was excellent except for one incident. Lots of nice little touches like turn-down service and the maids always arranged the kids' animals every day in a cute pose on the beds. Never needed to ask for anything as the room was well equipped. I thought it was worth the price for all the nice little touches, quality services, early admission to the parks, and close location. It may not be worth it if you are a bargain hunter and just want a place to sleep.

Good place to stay with little ones at Disneyland

Great location and easy access to both Disneyland and especially to DCA (with direct entry at hotel). Also great to be able to get to downtown Disney for all the dinning and shopping options. Especially nice to have the extra hour for early entry to both parks to beat the crowds. Nice pools for afternoon break. Rooms are okay but you are paying for the location and ease of entry. The staffs could try a bit harder-seems like they are just going through the motions at times.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

Don't bother using the direct entry to Disney California Adventure during the early morning Magic Hour as it has only two gates. Take the main entry to DCA by walking through downtown Disney instead.

Family disney fun

Great location. Private entrance to dca worked great. They even let us check in early. Turn down service, comfortable and quiet. Pools were great. There is a small slide for the little ones and a bigger slide for the swimmers.
