Relaxing place

While I probably wouldn't oay full price to stay in any resort, Westward Look changed my opinion of resorts. It's a beautiful property tucked away in North Tucson, and staying here was a truly relaxing experience. So much so that I extended my stay and enjoyed the spa!

For an older resort it is well maintained. Staff and location was excellent. Went to Tucson for a week of cycling it couldn't be better located to head out for a days ride in any direction. Great time and look forward to a return visit!

New Year's trip

It was hard to decide based on reviews and amenities between the Ventana, the Westward Look, La Paloma because they all seemed almost the same. This one is nice , because it's only a mile away from hiking, grocery stores and restaurants. Definitely don't take a downstairs unit , because you will hear the people upstairs . We moved after the 2nd night. Remember, you'll have to add $20 a day for resort fee and the occupancy tax , so the $520 for 4 nights ended up $800 ( including a prix fixe New year's dinner at Gold)

Westward Look great experience

A historic hotel-spa in the foothills above Tucson with spectacular views. A most enjoyable 10-day stay, with three fine swimming pools, well-maintained tennis courts, and good restaurant. The hotel campus is encompassed by a one-kilometer trail with benches and a wide variety of cacti and desert vegetation - great for evening strolls. The 1912-built lobby includes the Monsoon Cafe serving Starbucks coffee - very nice in the morning. The staff are friendly. The one negative - try not to get a lower level room. The floors from the room above are creaky, and the first three nights there was a family with small children above us. Those little ones were up at 5:30 jumping and running in the room, and it sounded like an earthquake in ours. After they checked out it was OK, even when normal adults checked in.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Westward Look is a short distance from spectacular mountain trailheads, like the Pima Canyon Park, a short drive. Some of Tucson's best shopping facilities are a short drive in the other direction along Oracle Ave., and W. Ina.

Best in Tucson so far

I spend one week a year in Tucson and have been doing so for the past 20 years. I've stayed in many different hotels/motels and houses throughout town. The stay in Westward Look is by far the best experience I've had in hotel accommodations. While it was a bit pricier than the other places I've stayed the comfort, location and overall experience was worth it. The package deal made it a great value too.

Blindside by the Westward Look

This was my third stay at the Westward Look and the previous stays were fantastic. Maybe my hopes were too high, but at check in I sensed a change. You were once greeted by a lovely dispenser of water and lemons--that was gone. When asking about the "Staycation" Deal of free breakfast--was told I could order from the menu at market price. No warm welcome or reception from the staff. Was starting to feel like a second class citizen maybe because I booked through [...].The pool party on Saturday was a blast--two very nice DJs who made sure they dedicated sets to the kids who came up and made requests. That really thrilled our 6 year old grandson. And the pool side bartender and staff provided outstanding service. Then the manager came around asking for our wrist bands to show we were entitled to the complimentary towel service. We had been there since Thursday, and this was Saturday, and this was the first we heard of it. When we told him that we didn't know what he was talking about, he said that we should have gotten them at check in. On both Thursday and Friday towels were rolled and placed on each deck chair. On Saturday we had a check out table for the towels and was given them after giving our room numbers. I got the distinct impression this was a new system he was trying to implement and was mostly taking it out on the young woman staffing the towel station. She had to turn several families away because of the lack of wrist bands. Really!! Who goes to a 4 star resort to wear a wrist band??? Or, again, maybe we weren't in the chosen group. We ate dinner Friday evening the resturant--however the service was so poor that they were gracious enough to comp the meal. All in all, the experience was mixed. You won't find a lovelier place. But on my next visit to Tucson, I'm ready to try another resort.

Visit the International Wildlife Museum. What a riot--not at all what I expected. The 6 year old loved it and so did G&G.

Westward Look Resort is fantastic

I attempted to check in at 2:00PM (official check in at 4:00PM). The clerk offered to give me a lessor room or to call me when the intended room was ready. I opted to wait for the room and went for a drive. She called about 30 mins later to tell me the room was ready. This is great service! The room was more like a suite and exceeded my expectations; it was huge, included a 46 inch LCD TV on a swivel arm (so I could watch in the couch area or in bed), and included a large, two part bathroom. I will recommend this resort to friends and definitely plan on returning the next time I am in Tucson.

Luxury, Pure and Simple

The resort was absolutely beautiful - immaculate. The hiking trails had abundant wildlife and flora. There were several hot tubs and two large pools in several locations throughout the expansive resort. The staff were attentive, responsive, diplomatic and innovative. The restaurant and bar kitchens were well-stocked and well-staffed. The beds and pillows were soft and luxurious. This gorgeous resort is in the foothills of the Catalinas, so plan on needing a car to get back and forth between the resort and Tucson proper.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Explore the wildlife and hiking opportunities in Arizona! Tucson is surrounded by mountain ranges, and many of the parks are free or have small day-pass fees. The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum was also incredible.

McDonaldifaction has happened.

I have loved Westward Look for years and last year a corporation bought it. They took a sledge hammer to the custom tile and hand painted sinks and replaced them with cheap faux corian. They made my guests and I wear wrist bands to use the facilities. I feel the quality has dropped. I could go on and on, garbage under the balcony, hooks fall off the wall, cheap faux leather and light weight cheap faux wicker pool furniture. Just a shame, another historic treasure bites the dust under corporate rule. Sad.

great get-away

The property is beautiful and very uniquely gives the natural flavor of Tucson. The staff was especially friendly and efficient, the spa is very high quality and the total experience of my stay was outstanding. I would recommend this to everyone.

There are two great restaurants on site and many nearby as well. The nature trail and scenery of the mountains is amazing and makes the whole resort very restful. There is so much to do that you don't have to leave for anything.
