Tucson is in Southeast Arizona just 66 miles north of the Mexican Border. The city grew along the Santa Cruz and Rillito rivers, where native peoples grew corn, beans and squash since pre-historic times. This desert valley is surrounded by mountains known as "Sky Islands."

To the north, the 9,000-foot Santa Catalina Mountains feature the southernmost ski area in the United States. To the east are the Rincon Mountains, rising to the 8,644-foot summit of Mica Mountain. The highest are the Santa Rita Mountains south of the city, with Mount Wrightson reaching 9,453 feet. The lowest are the volcanic Tucson Mountains to the west; the summit is 4,687-foot Wasson Peak.

Paid in advance--resort charged me again

The resort was fine, nice location but I paid in advance and then was charged for the resort fee. That was all fine but they went back and charged another $520 for the room.

A Non-Chain Experience

Westward Look has been a little-known gem for years. Tucked away in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains overlooking Tucson, it provides all the amenities while preserving the gorgeous desert and all of the desert critters. Has a wonderful hiking trail through the desert around the property. Great tennis & workout area. Good food & great location. Attentive staff.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

While the Gold Room has great Mexican-Continental cuisine, it's just a short drive to South Fourth Avenue where all the real Sonoran food is. Enjoy the Gold Room but take the drive. And don't forget La Roca in Nogales, Sonora, just an hour away. Some of the best food in the Republic. (You'll need your passport to get back across the border).

Comfort and Beauty

We stayed 1 week, and WWL to be a great location for day trips to hike, bike, and shop. The grounds are spectacular and if you can get a west facing balcony, the sunset views are special. The rooms are spacious and well done. The downside is that the property is old. Though reasonably well cared for it shows its age and if you are looking for high style ammenities, look elsewhere.

Wonderfully situated with great views, this hotel was so peaceful. Although a bit out of the way, the drive was worth it. Spacious room and great bed. Lovely for walks and hiking. Only complaint would be no towel bars in the bath and poor lighting in room.

Great base for Tucson visit

Large and comfortable room with a cozy king sized bed. The two sinks in the bathrooms came in handy when getting ready in the morning. Had a lower level room which was fine for us but if you are easily woken by noise from guests in the unit above, you might want an upper unit. This resort is in a nice location for hiking trips with several spots within 6-7 miles.

Westward Look Resort

Delayed checking in due to only 3 clerks and two guests getting information. The third clerk left while we waited. After check-in we went to our room and I guess I was expecting a combined room and conversation area. The room was to order with two Queen beds that were magnificent. The sitting are was a cramped couch. The TV had minimal channels and I had to call housekeeping to show me how to turn it on since a lamp was in the way of the remote signal. The shower was very large and new, however the hand held spray would not stay centered. The coffee was pods and easy to figure out. Closet space was adequate. The toilet seat moved around and the seat had to be held open for me and down for my wife. It was quiet and the view was nothing to right home about. The resort fee was explained as a charge to cover coffee and amenities. There were two pouches of pods for both reg and decaf and paper cups. Very small plastic .25 ounce shampoo, conditioner and lotion and a bar of facial soap and a body soap. Didn't measure up to a Resort amenity. There was no newspaper delivery. Made me wonder what a add on resort fee covered as meals were expensive and the breakfast was menu or $18 buffet of french toast, fruit scrambled eggs sausage, bacon and toast.. The resort was very adequate to handle the Reunion of 50 people and the $90 per person charge for breakfast lunch and dinner was steep I guess the charge per person provided a return on the single room with 7 tables for 8 persons. Breakfast consisted of miniature sweet rolls and muffins with coffee. Lunch was tortilla chips with guacamole and pico de gallo (sp?) . Food was available in the bar or restaurant at a healthy cost...Dinner/supper was a buffet of chicken, salmon, country potatoes and vegs and ice tea. Drinks in the bar for a fee. The reunion was fun and that made up for the other factors and we would never have seen the people had it not been for a dedicated group of magnificent ladies that pushed the project and made the arrangements. I stayed in an Inn on my way home as the sun set before I could finish visiting friends and relatives and a side trip to parts that I had never been. The Inn did not have the prestigious name of the Westward Look Resort. The beds were great, coffee in the room, and breakfast consisting of Eggs, sausage and biscuits, waffles yogurt, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, cinnamon rolls, bagels muffins and toast, INCLUDED in the low cost. Clean, quiet and very comfortable . I suppose if I had a longer visit and could enjoy the spa, pool and other amenities the Westward Look Resort might have been a little better..

Resort with class

The lobby leads into the original adobe home with a classic library and sitting room. They incorporated all the suites into the hillside so you feel a part of the land. You pay a$20 daily resort fee and get nature trails thoughtfully done to inspire your kids an the child in you. We like the Chef's and the humming bird garden. Staff are respectful and helpful for you to enjoy your experience. Worth your visit.
