Desert Diamond not in the Rough

This could be a spectacular hotel, if they got the customers to behave. All night long slamming doors and intoxicated people talking loud in the hallways. We asked for a quiet room and they put us next to the elevator in a handicap room that needed many repairs and had mold in the bathroom in the seal around the tub. The clerk at the front desk had poor customer skills and did not look at us once when communicating. We felt like we were disturbing him instead of feeling like customers. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The pool water looked dirty and the grounds needed trash picked up.

The restaurants were expensive, the quality of the food was in great need, and the smokey and noisy environment were all reasons we drove across Tucson to eat.

Wanted a little gambling, but lost

Needed a hotel for east-coasters headed to Tucson for a wedding. We chose this location hoping to get a little gambling in at the start of the new year. However, this place is all about the Casino with the hotel it seems is more of an afterthought. Confusingly, the road to the "hotel side" was blocked off, forcing us to tote all our luggage through the casino toward check-in. There were no less than 4 valets at the Casino entrance ready to vaguely point toward the general direction of the hotel, but none offered a hand or cart. Once we finally made it to check-in, we were told there is an alternate road to the hotel-side. Apparently this is hush-hush though as the valets failed to mention and there is no sign. The stay was pretty satisfactory in terms of room accommodations, dining, etc. The casino itself was a HUGE disappointment. It was so poorly-ventilated that it was impossible to want to settle in any one spot for fear of near suffocation. You pretty much had to walk through this smoke-hazy casino to get to any of restaurants or meet a taxi at a spot they'd actually find you. I learned later that there is another far-better ventilated casino not too far away, and I wish I'd known that before booking. I never did do any gambling as the atmosphere was so unpleasant. The location overall was disappointing as I found no other eating/entertainment options that didn't require the taxi runaround. The hot tub and pool were nice, although be careful to head the hours, for they will lock up promptly. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel for out of town guests.
