Baseball Hiker
Decent hotel with poor customer service
I chose this hotel to be close to the airport and near South Mountain for hiking. The room was spacious and comfortable - that was a plus. It was clean and looked like it had been remodeled in the recent past. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by three interactions with staff members that are seriously in need of customer service training. My guess is that they are not being held accountable for poor performance. First, I asked for a quiet room and we were put on the side of the hotel facing the freeway, right in the middle of a wedding party with multiple rooms around us. Then, I asked if the wedding party was staying another night and was told, "I can't tell you that." When I explained that I was concerned about the noise they had made, I again got, "I can't tell you that." There was no attempt to address my concern or any offer to help me. Finally, I asked for a 4:45 a.m. wake-up call on the morning we were leaving. The person at the desk forgot to call us. Fortunately, we awoke on time on our own. Ouch! Three strikes and I'll be finding another hotel for my next stay in Tempe.

Nice spot for leisure or business
Great location!!!!! Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Great shopping. Breakfast was very good and well maintained by exceptional staff.

Conveniently Located
The Holiday inn Express is an extremely nice, economical hotel within walking distance of good restaurants and shopping. Our primary aim was to revisit and Climb for Cancer (ACS) at South Mountain and it makes for easy access.

a big mall is just next door. from most national stores to a movir theater and even an aquarium for the family to see

Tempe hotel
The hotel and our room was very clean and modern. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. There was a small bar counter with sink and fridge. Normal items were a coffee pot, couch, easy chair, desk and a wall mounted large screen TV. It was in reasonable distance from the University. Better than average breakfast for a hotel.

Simple and easy
I enjoy the convienece of the hotel, and the large space the hotel provided. Also their gym is 24 hours is a plus.

CLAIM JUMPERS IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOTEL. VERY NICE PLACE TO EAT AND GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD. 5 STAR PLACE TO EAT.

Location good for "mall shoppers" only
The hotel was fine, clean, staff was friendly, free internet, nice rooms. However, a few little things were annoying--we were promised 2 free bottles of water per day and it wasn't in our room (housekeeping did deliver immediately when I complained). The printer in the business center was broken for a day and we were told "the computer guy" was on PTO. Very easy highway access, and right beside a major shopping mall, but NOT walking distance to the pretty little downtown Tempe area (around the college) which is where I've stayed before. And where I'll stay in the future! That's a good 2 miles away and on major streets with hwy crossings--not scenic, and it's too hot in Phoenix anyway for that. Stay near the college if you want to walk around a pretty shopping/dining area.

Claim Jumper is the closest restaurant--shares a parking lot with the hotel--and it's probably fine, but it's a big chain. We preferred the little 50's diner right behind the hotel, a short walk towards the shopping center. It was fanTAStic--food, value, ambience, and service. Check it out!
