Quick winter getaway

Great hotel, friendly staff--our floor was a little noisy Saturday night, but otherwise quiet. The temperature of the water in the shower was difficult to regulate, either too hot or too cold. But, it's a sweet historic boutique hotel, so I guess a little difficulty regulating water temperature was a small price to pay for a great location and wonderful character.

Great location in downtown Phoenix - historic site

This is an historic hotel, so there are some unusual features in the room - an old radiator, a step-up bathroom, and a left-over old chilled water faucet. I did not mind these - it lent to the charm. Lots of old artifacts and photos showcase the history of the building and of phoenix. The location was fabulous - close to the rocking Cityscape scene and museums, but relatively quiet too. There's an exercise room which is pretty good, and a rooftop pool which could benefit from a few updated chaise lounges (the furniture was mostly upright chairs). There's a nice restaurant in the building, but far superior eateries are close too. We went to Phoenix for the Eric Clapton kickoff concert for his tour and were really surprised how hip and upscale the downtown area has become. FUN!

District American Eatery and Wine Bar, located in the Sheraton. Great food, good wine selection, stays open late.

Historic Hotel San Carlos

Very quaint historic hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, great location. If you are looking for fancy with a lot of amenities, might not be for you but it was very clean and had an old world charm. The hotel was built in 1928 and many people like Cary Grant, Marilynn Monroe, Gary Cooper etc stayed there. Also the price was amazing. I'll stay there agin next time I am in Phoenix.

Good location for proximity to Chase Field.

Our stay at the hotel ended up being OK and we liked the close proximity to the AZ Diamondback's Chase Field. However, when we were en route to the hotel (we live 3.5 hours away), we called to see if we could check in early in order to be on time for the baseball game we were attending and we were told that they had no record of our reservation. They said they checked by name and reservation number and pretty much told us we would have to deal with it on our own and there was nothing they could do. My cheaptickets reservation copy had no phone number to call and being in the car, we had no computer access. It took me getting irate to have the hotel try to check with cheaptickets and by the time we arrived, they had it worked out. I was left wondering who had dropped the ball...cheaptickets or Hotel San Carlos? Pretty stressful when you wonder if you are going to have a place to stay after what was going to be a long day in Phoenix and the room had already been charged to our credit card.

Good Location

Traveled to Phoenix to attend two sporting events. The Hotel San Carlos is within walking distance to both Chase Feild and U.S. Airways Arena; however, it is about 10 miles from Jobbing.com Arena in nearby Glendale. The hotel is historic, so expect it to be dated with challenges inherent to its age. It is clean, however, and in a great location within the downtown. The Irish Pub next door is a good place to have a drink, but I do not recommend the food.
