Luxury, landmark resort and spa near Phoenix Mountain Preserve
Arizona's historical "Jewel of the Desert" is 39 acres of paradise at the foot of Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Since 1929 this idyllic landmark resort and spa has been the playground of celebrities and U.S. Presidents. Frank Lloyd Wright served as the consulting architect and his influence is apparent throughout the property.  Friendly, white-glove service makes everyone at home amongst mature grounds, Mission-style accommodations, five restaurants and eight swimming pools. The hotel is near the elite Biltmore Fashion Park shopping center.
Highlights
  • Landmark resort with architectural connection to Frank Lloyd Wright
  • Five restaurants, eight swimming pools
  • Exclusive Ocatilla hotel-within-a-hotel with a dedicated, 24-hour concierge service
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi in main lobby, Ocatilla lounge and patio, and Paradise pool

Rooms

All 738 guest rooms, condominiums and suites feature classic Mission-style furnishings and textiles, blended with modern luxuries. Rooms include a working desk with two chairs, two telephones equipped with voicemail and speed dialing, high speed Internet connection (fees apply), mini-bars, hairdryer, make-up mirror and a scale. Guests who book at the Ocatilla level have access to an exclusive lounge serving complimentary refreshments and optional services, such as turndown salt baths and pressing service.

Features

A full-service salon and spa, and fitness center are on site, plus a host of recreational opportunities including eight swimming pools (Paradise pool has a 92-foot waterslide and swim-up bar), seven tennis courts, and croquet and life-size lawn checkers and chess -- a free tradition since 1929. There is an hourly free shuttle to Biltmore Fashion Park, Monday through Saturday.

Dining

Opened in 2010, Frank and Albert's restaurant serves classic breakfast, lunch and dinner with ingenious ingredients. Cabana Club has light poolside fare. The Cafe has international deli style breakfast and lunch. Wright's at Biltmore serves American lodge cuisine for dinner. The Wright bar has appetizers, piano entertainment, sports and board games.

fabulous

I'll start with the bad. Location was out of the way but that was my own fault. We were there for a long weekend of spring training baseball so the Biltmore was not the most convenient spot but we were able to get around to all of our stops easily as there was very little traffic in this area and it is close to the highway. The villa we stayed in was clean but not spotless. No complaints but just don't like seeing dead bugs here and there. Not sure why we had to sign up for the complimentary wifi every day. Other than the above that I consider minor issues, our stay at the Biltmore was wonderful. The hotel is stunning and the grounds amazing. The whole aura of the locale was relaxed and luxurious. Jonathon at the registration desk was patient and friendly about our requests to print tickets and boarding passes. He did so with a smile on his face and without any hesitation. Thank you JW!

Hilton hotel

Beautiful hotel. Great architecture. Although this is a five star hotel, the service was lacking in some major areas.

Avoid the cottages

Tried to book direct but my conference rate was not available and the price given was unaffordable for this business meeting. I was glad to be able to secure a room at a high but affordable price through an online site. However, I was given a cottage that was truly in need of a renovation. It was dark with only lamps for lighting in the bedroom, the bathroom had broken tiles, no vanity, and in poor shape overall. The resort itself is beautiful with lovely gardens, pools, etc. but all rooms are not equal. If you stay here be sure of what you are booking.

The Central Bistro in a shopping center near the Biltmore is very nice with a great wine selection and wonderful risotto dishes.

Winter get away

Lovely hotel and wonderful setting although with the layout it seemed too large. Golf course was fine except for the 8 minute interval on tee times. This lead to having to wait between shots at times. Hotel wireless internet ciuld use some improvement. Fully stocked lobby bar and great wine room. Food way rather pricey-- I woukd give it 4.5 stars.
