History has a way of preserving its finest legacies. In a town that’s seen it all from prosperity to despair and back … A building, weathered but standing tall … A beautifully aged marble floor that still reflects the legacy of the past.

Yikes! 2 Star at a 4 Star Price

So, I thought I was staying at a downtown Birmingham Alabama hotel, what I didn't know was that it was so "tired" of a hotel. The downtown location is ok, the extra charge for parking is in an unsecured parking lot that quickly fills up across the street where I did not feel safe leaving anything in my car for the night. When I got to the hotel I was tired, I was grumpy, the customer service was just average, they didn't do anything to make my stay feel welcome or enjoyed. The hotel lobby is decent and looks ok, the elevators rumbled more than they should and probably needed service but they got me to my room. The carpets made me want to leave my shoes on and the card key locks were a few years old. Inside the room I was greeted to a moldy smell and wallpaper peeling, the upkeep was done minimally, the tv was decent, coffee maker in the room for those single serve cups. The most they splurged on was the soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotion. I checked the bed for signs of bed bugs and around the place for roaches, did not fine any but did fine a black spot or two that could have been left by an unwanted guest. I coughed and sneezed all night due to my allergies, mold, dust, droppings etc. I ended up checking out a day early on my 2 day stay cause I wasn't going to be able to deal with the conditions. My sink backed up on me, the shower was at least hot, the toilet seat stained. All in all this is a very worn out old hotel both inside and outside, you think it would be a better hotel from the reviews but its not good at all. Use the $89 a night and stay at some better hotel downtown and avoid this one all together. I felt so miserable after my stay here for one night I didn't even bother to check out the rest of Birmingham.

Good location, charming hotel, but leaves some wanting

We stayed at this hotel prior to the Brimingham Marathon and decided on it based solely on location. The room was nice enough, but it was kind of expensive for what it was. There was no coffee in the room and one of our two lamps (only lights) mysteriously had no lightbulb.

Good location, charming hotel, but leaves some wanting

My husband and I stayed at this hotel while we were in Birmingham for the Mercedes Marathon. It was pretty pricy for what we got, but the location was perfect for we needed (i.e. close to Linn Park). There was no coffee in our room and, curiously, a lightbulb was absent from one of the lamps. It's a nice "old" hotel though and has a lot of charm. It's also a short walk from the restaurants and brew pubs on second ave, so that was a big plus. no parking, though, which kind of stinks when you are paying $165 a night.

Excellant service, top notch!

The service was excellant, friendly and knowledgeble staff. Beautiful room, love the mix of old and new accomodations. Right in the middle of the old financial district. For someone that wants to get away from the "cookie cutter" chain hotels, can't beat it!
