Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites BIRMINGHAM-IRONDALE (EAST)

I booked a nonsmoking king room. When I checked in to my room, I was given a key to a smoking room. I called the front desk and was told they didn't have any nonsmoking king rooms. I asked what did they have and was moved to another floor nonsmoking with two double beds. The bed(s) were worn in the middle and the room was not clean by Holiday Inn Express standards. I asked for an adjustment on the price of the room since they couldn't provide what I reserved. I was told that since I booked through a third party and they would have to be the one who adjusted the price. I will not be staying there again. If this third party is booking rooms that are not available, I probably won't use them again, not any time soon for sure.

The hotel sits way off the road so it's a little hard to find. I stood at the front desk for several minutes while 2 ladies chatted behind the counter. Never once did they even acknowledge that I was standing there even though I was a mere 2 feet from them. Once they decided to help me, they were friendly -- but I was certainly not their priority.

I was very upset with the hotel's customer service, it was very late when I was going to check into the hotel, my cell phone battery was low so I was unable to use my gps, I called the hotel to get directions and there was only one person at work and she could not give me directions to get to the hotel, I was asked to call back in five minutes and when I did I was unable to still get directions, I drove around for about 40 minutes until I just decided to drive on home, I had my children with me, when I was on the phone with the lady, I asked was there a manager at work and I was told no, that she was the only one working, so I wait until the next day and called to speak to a manager and I was still advised that there would not be one back until Monday. I am very upset that this hotel would not train their employees properly, I am sure that they could have googled an exit number for me or even had a brochure with an exit number. I had booked my room in advance but if I hadn't' I would have just drove to another hotel. I will never stay at this particular Holiday Inn NEVER!!!!!!

Wireless Internet at no extra charge was a plus. Proximity to the Birmingham airport (about 10 minute drive) made it worth the extra $.

We stay at this hotel often because it is close to our children when we visit Birmingham. We were in town this week-end for a "first" birthday of a Grandson!

Restaurants,and shopping nearby,great highway access.

The location was hard to find and the driveway was steep!!! The parking was horrible!! We had to park in a grassy area that was muddy. Upon entering the hotel people was standing outside the front doors and would not make room to get by. We then proceeded to check in and they had changed our reservations from a king size to two queens without even calling and asking if this was acceptable. When I asked what the difference in the prices were, the front desk person said it didn't matter. We made it up to our room on an elevator that sounded like at any moment was going die. Needed a hot shower after a long day of traveling and the shower wall was cracked and then the tub wouldn't drain during the shower. I was not impressed with this hotel.

Bad from the start, and only got worse in the a.m. shower head pointed out of shower so when started it flooded the floor, the shower was dirty and had hair left in it from prior guest garbage in the garbage can when I arrived, and it looked like a late check out guest used the towels and bathroom before leaving and it was not checked on again. Staff pushed hard to get me to donate blood, because they had some blood drive going in the hotel Tell Holiday Inn I do not plan to stay a Priority Club meeting, since I will not stay at one of their facilities again!!
