Dirty Very Basic Hostel in Noisy Area...

Hi, this is my personal reviews and is for any customers looking to stay at the Journeys Greenwich West Hostel in New Cross London. This is a Hostel that is in the dormitory style bunk beds with multiples rooms on 3 levels with approximately 150 bed/people capacity. There are actually only 4 showers/4 sinks.... and 5 toilets in the whole hostel shared by potentially 150 people. The staff as well as most of the customers are foreign and it is a backpacker style hostel. On the ground floor as you walk in there is a bar/pool table/ luggage storage/ TV and kitchen at the back as well as toilets. This was actually a British style pub and the bar area is actually the reception now. There is a code entry lock on the right as you walk in to access your room On the first floor you have about 6 rooms each with a code lock. On the second floor you have 6 rooms with a key lock. I will try and state an unbiased view so that before you actually book you will have a more informed view. I will state the positives as well as the negatives: POSITIVES: 1) The price per bed is pretty cheap.... i paid about £10 per night. 2) Free Wifi = I got about 5MB speed and you can use internet in your room. NEGATIVES: 1) Location of the Hostel - The closest train/underground station is New Cross Overground. It is a 20 minute walk from the station and a bit difficult to find if you don't have a map. The area or street where the hostel is located is quite rough and unsafe and in a ghetto council type of area. There are always young black gangster types youths/men hanging around. I would advise that you do not go out at night and try and return before it gets dark. It can be quite intimidating especially if you are a single woman. There is noise at all times of the day even at 4am so it can be hard to sleep 2) The staff can be quite rude.... and they can make you feel like an inconvenience. You need to request things multiple times sometimes. Sometimes they are friendly 3) When i walked in my room it was extremely messy with clothes and bags just scattered all over the room and floor with a bad smell. This is due to other customers in your room. The hotel does not do a good job of cleaning regularly. I think they clean maybe once every few days. The linens need to be changed more regularly 4) Not enough lockers. If there where 10 bunk beds there will only be 6 lockers... so your passport/electronics are not really safe if you do not have a locker. It is pretty much first come first served. 5) I think there are 70 people per floor sharing 2 sinks 2 showers 2 toilets. This is simply not enough and there are very long queues especially in the morning. Th toilets are always dirty and people do not bother to flush. 6) The bunk beds are extremely creaky and other guests are constantly coming and going at all hours and turning the light off at 4am. 7) On Friday and Saturday night there is loud music karaoke from the bar downstairs until at least 5am. So it is better if you just stay away and do something else until this time rather than try and sleep. 8) Free Breakfast.... Very Basic..... Dirty cutlery. 9) Kitchen area is dirty with old food all over. It is best if you use your own cutlery etc. So then just to conclude..... my stay at this hostel was a bad experience.... but if you can tolerate all these problems the price is pretty good per night. Keep in mind that most of these problems are caused by the customers and not staff. But the the issue is the hotel employees do not try to fix issues such as mess etc Bye
