perfect for central london

The hotel and staff were lovely. I misunderstood the desorption and thought there were supposed to be three beds in the room but there were only two. Other than that though the stay was great.

Grand old lady in a perfect location

I was in London only to see the British Museum exhibit on Pompeii in May, 20013. This was my third stay at Charing Cross Hotel with my husband and the fourth by myself. I did make a terrible mistake by not booking a room with a view of the river. The windows had not been well cleaned, and on drawing back the curtains, I came face to face with walls and a roof. That said and having traveled a great deal, I want to recommend the staff for their great professionalism, kindness, smiles and going the extra mile. The concierge even walked up Charing Cross to Foyles Book Shop to look for a book I needed. The hotel was full or I would have been upgraded when I checked in. The room itself - 217 - is one of the older rooms, and perhaps for this reason, more difficult to clean well. The hotel is well situated, and the views - when you book the right room - are stunning. The bed was very comfortable. My best memories of the Charing Cross Hotel would have to be the staff members. I certainly plan to stay there again whenever I pass through London again.

Supurb location, friendly staff

Staff went out of their wat to be polite and helpful. Perfect location. 2 tube stations with multiple access points plus the Charing Cross station right under the hotel! And my fears that we would hear the tube- unfounded. Room was quiet and restful. Small but most London hotels are. Beautifully restored property. Would have liked a more extensive breakfast with our executive suite- that is about the only upgrade I would reccommend to the hotel chain. We WILL stay there on our next visit!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to St. Martin In the Fields- just off of Trafalgar Square. They have a casual but lovely cafeteria style eatery in their rennovated "Crypt". Sounds funky but very unique and very friendly. Also economical homemade soups and bread and desserts. Also St. Martins has classical concerts many evening of the week- lovely surprise. At a modest cost but if you know anything about the St Martin In the Fields recordings you can get a first hand view of the source!!

Guoman Hotel at Charing Cross

This is a beautiful hotel very conveniently located at the Charing Cross Underground station. The staff at this hotel are incredibly helpful and professional. They truly go 'above and beyond' to accommodate their guests. The 24 hr bar, sunny dining room, free WiFi and so many other amenities make this a truly delightful place to stay in London. There are also numerous cafes, pubs and an incredible wine bar (Gordon's) very nearby the hotel. The theatre district is also close by. My family has stayed at this hotel several times and we are always very pleased.

Make a point of checking out Gordon's Wine Bar. You'll think you are entering a dusty cave but it's just part of the ambiance and the charm. The wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the crowd has always been jovial.

Excellent location at Trafalgar square

The hotel is centrally located. It borders Trafalgar square and is close to most major attractions-Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, etc. The hotel is also next to the Charing Cross Tube stop. Everything is very close by. The location could not have been better! The hotel's staff is excellent. Beautiful dining room for breakfast. Candles on staircase. The basic room is relatively small compared to US standards, but very comfortable. I will return to this hotel during all future visits to London.

Central Luxury

Located right at Charing Cross station, it doesn't get any more central than this. On the downside that means it's in a very congested area, but on the plus side it's a 10-minute walk to Convent Garden and you can actually see Trafalgar Square from the hotel entrance. This is a lovely place to stay, and the service was impeccable. Make sure you ask for one their bathrobes!
