Great for a London Homebase

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Cromwell for our honeymoon trip to London and we had a blast. My first positive experience was when I asked the hotel to get some roses and champagne for her before we entered the hotel room, which they were more than willing to help with and my wife was more than surprised. The room was very clean and pretty comfortable. The room and bed was a bit smaller than I had anticipated (I am 6 feet tall) but after we unpacked, I hardly noticed it at all. I enjoyed the room with the balcony, however, we sat outside once. I would probably not get a room with a balcony again since we were there to explore London and not look at the buildings surrounding us. It wasn't much of a view anyway as we mostly just saw the buildings around us. I loved how close the hotel was to the Gloucester Tube station and a few other awesome areas. The National history museum for kids, High Street Kennsington for shopping, and pubs were all right by the hotel which made it feel very comfortable. Overall it was a great place to stay. I may or may not stay there again because of the room size however, I was impressed by their hospitality, location and cleanliness. Also if you are an international traveler, the free wifi was very helpful too.

Decent, clean but nothing spectacular or special for a 4star

I stayed at the hotel for 5 days. I had a clean room - clean bed and bathroom - basics for my stay. The hotel was conveniently across the street from the underground and the grocery store. This was clearly not a 4star hotel however - maybe 2. - Bed was stiff/hard; furniture was cracking/peeling. - Room was so small with a double bed; I was single but couldn't imagine another person sharing the room - TV only had 6-7 stations, BBC sports was not clear - No fridge in the bedrooms - Prices includes Free Wifi in rooms; I could barely get a connection, the coverage was so spotty. The best coverage was in the lobby. The reception's response to my issue "try turning your phone on/off". - Customer Service by their Reception staff was almost non-existent. I arrived at 1AM with 2 heavy bags; the staff barely looked up as I walked in with no offer to help. Everytime I came into the lobby there was no acknowledgement - no Good Morning, hello etc. to their guest. And when I finally checked out and needed to get outside to catch a taxi, again no help or assistance with the bags or offer to help with a taxi. Plus they couldn't provide accurate information about getting to the airport. If this is a 4 Star Hotel, then I expect 4 star service and luxuries. Instead this is a basic clean 2 star hotel and expect nothing else.

Disappointing and poor value

We stayed one night and were on the top floor. The room was cramped and claustrophobic, with a sloping roof, and a tiny window which did not open,so natural ventalation. The bathroom door did not open fully (it opened onto the bed so you couldn't easily walk around the bed). The room was noisy due to the proximty to the lift, which meant a poor nights sleep. Breakfast was not included and for the price we thought it poor value for money. We would not have stayed a second night.

Small but well managed

We spent 9 nights in a small, not to say itty-bitty, room; 2 people who are definitely NOT small. However it was well designed and it worked, very clean, bed also small but comfortable; service very good, staff helpful.Even the lobby and the lift are tiny--but that is a condition of London life. Not luxurious but a great value, good placement , very close to tube station and several stores, restaurants and a pharmacy.

Great Location, Reasonable Price

We spent a week at the Cromwell. The nearby restaurants were great with the Delhi a block west being the best Indian food I've ever had (and I've been to India three times). Staff was helpful, the room was smaller than the bed my wife and I slept in while staying in Portugal. The bathroom microscopic but efficient. Room was clean, had air-conditioning and heat. Subway was close and we had a great time seeing plays and the sights. Everything in London is expensive but we were pleased with our hotel stay.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

A Sainsbury's supermarket is about 200 yards to the west. Go there for morning pastries that are far cheaper than any restaurant. Also, if you like Indian food the Delhi, 100 yards to the west, is simply outstanding.

Location, location, location

The Best Western at the Cromwell was in the perfect location...just off the picadilly line (gloucester road stop) you could access all the sights and locations within 15-30 minutes. Plenty of restaurants close to the restaurant but we choose to eat at pubs, restaurants located off the picadilly line.

fine hotel for quick visit/a couple

The room was extremely small, basically room for a bed and barely room to place our luggage down, but was clean and comfortable enough. As my husband and I were only there for a few days and were mostly out doing things, it was fine for what it was--a place to sleep and keep our belongings. The location is great because it is right near the Gloucester tube stop and a few stops away from many of the major attractions. We did not eat or drink in the hotel, so I cannot comment on that. Our room was on the 5th floor, and the lift only goes up to the 4th floor, so we had to walk a flight of stairs after getting out of the lift. While this was fine for us, it might be difficult for others, particularly with luggage, etc.

Excellent tourist hotel

Location excellent, across street from Gloucester Rd. Station and Piccadilly line. Grocery store across street. Laundry and plenty of fast food places and restaurants nearby. Room was a tad small, but normal I guess for UK although I would assume that higher tier rooms would be larger. I will stay there again and would recommend this hotel to others as a good value for money and excellent location.
