Great stay close to the train station & Old Town
We stayed at the Apex for a two day holiday in Edinburgh. The hotel is just steps out of the back of the train station - very easy walk and mostly under cover if raining. Its a 7 minute walk to the front of the train station where the Tourist Information is located as well as the sightseeing buses. And a pleasant 10 minute walk into the center of Old Town. I was so pleasantly surprised at the location of the hotel as well as the great condition of the hotel, our room, and the excellent staff! Would definitely stay here again.

Modern, Clean, Impressive Staff
This was our second visit to Edinburgh and although it was only for one night, I was concerned that I should have just rebooked with the last place we stayed which was very nice, indeed. This was a bit pricier, so I was concerned about the value, but it turned out there was no need for worry. This hotel has a fantastic location--street parking for overnight and weekends is free, shopping, dining, easy access to tours, and just a block beyond the hustle and bustle makes for a quite, lovely setting with no worries. The staff were friendly, professional, and responsive. The room was a bit on the small size (maybe we'd been spoiled at the last place--this was more typical for European/UK hotel size), but the beds were very comfortable, plenty of hanging space for clothes, the bathroom was large and everything was very modern including the large screen wall-mounted TV. There could have been more room for suitcase storage but for one night we were fine. The bar menu and drinks were great--especially since we had a late arrival and were pushing getting anything at all. Checkout was almost a problem as we were second in line and suddenly there were about six other guest parties trying to check out all at the same time with only one desk agent. However, out of nowhere two more appeared and swiftly attended to everyone in quick order. The price we got was at a great discount and if it had not been for that we would not have stayed there. With a discount, I would definitely book this hotel again and make sure to take more time there to take advantage of the pool, spa, and spa services. Having all the amenities such as the hairdryer and ironing board are expected but shouldn't be taken for granted either and the rooms are well appointed with lots of extra electrical outlets for charging phones, tablet devices, etc. and are just generally very well appointed. Excellent hotel. If rooms were a bit bigger, had a little more suitcase space, a better view (ours was of a wall), and the price can be held down, I would give it a 100% five stars.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Waverly bridge where tour buses and airport shuttle pick up/drop off is just a couple long blocks walk; shopping, churches, bus station and dining are literally just around the corner--there is a 'secret' back entrance/exit from the "0" floor. Reception is on floor 5 as the hotel sits on a steep hill and the front is on the high side of the hill--but there is an intercom at the hidden rear entrance and they will buzz you in when you identify yourself.

Very nice stay
The Apex Waterloo Place was an excellent find. They graciously allowed us to check in early (our flight arrived 6:35 am), and upgraded us to a 2-bedded room, at no extra cost -- very nice indeed! We were able to walk to all the major sights, and the staff were very helpful with directions and good suggestions about where to dine. The room was a bit chilly, despite our attempts to raise the temperature on the thermostat, but then that is what I have come to expect from UK hotels in cold weather, so we came prepared. All in all a very nice stay, I would certainly return to this hotel.

Cafe Royale (pub & restaurant), Guilford Arms (pub/dining), Hadrian's Brasserie (in the Balmoral Hotel), and restaurant in the National Gallery are all nearby, lovely, and moderately priced, with many Scottish dishes and other options that were very good (even to a teenager!).

Location is Everything
A very good hotel in a great Edinburgh location. Better if you are going there by train. The garaging facitilies are not convenient and are expensive. We were not impressed with the hotel's dining room for dinner. The menu is limited and a bit strange, the portions are small, and prices are very high. There are other nearby restaurants that we liked better.

Hotel has class
The Apex Waterloo has it all. It's a great location, it's very clean, has great amenities like the restaurant, pool and saunas and found it to be a class act. We liked the classiness but without pretentiousness and were very comfortable.
