Short of Staff
The hotel is magnificent, amazing space and the best location in town. Rooms are large and comfortable, big and modern bathrooms. Needs more staff - no one to carry your bags through the obligatory flights of stairs to the elevators, small staff at concierge and check-in. Long waits there.

Palace Madrid
Great location! Nice staff. Has a sense of history as there is a little room or "museo" which relates it's beginnings from 1912. Breakfast was not included , but worth it for 22 euros each. Complimentary room service for tea/coffee once per day was lovely. Our room had a shower control whose steel cap was broken , but placed on the it's broken plastic mount as if it was intact! The reading lamp by the armchair was also not working. The TV did not have BBC . although our son's next door did. We did not bother reception with these until we were checking out. Fantastic glass dome in the dining area and has to be seen to be appreciated. Would stay again as thr location was second to none.

Short walk from hotel
Before buying a "Paseo del Arte" for the 3 museums- Prado/Thyssen/Reina Sofia, find out if there is a free day and what times as it not be worth it to buy it. El Corte Ingles at Puerto Del Sol is a great collection of shops- they will give you 10% discount after producing ID at the customer service desk. Book Casa Patas for flamenco on-line - you get a good table.

Palace Perfect for Us.
Our stay at the Palace Hotel was excellent! The staff were very helpful for any needs we had, they speak English or Spanish, and the location was perfect for walking the historical district. We felt very safe. We had easy access to taxis, Atocha train station 10 minutes walk, and eateries everywhere. Sleeping was quiet and peaceful. This was a very accommodating hotel, even received an upgrade in room, a refrigerator added, when they didn't have our reservation. We printed out our confirmation with our online company, and they used that. Only slight inconveniences were that free WiFi access was in the lobby only, and no ice machines for cold beverages. You have to empty the stocked refrigerator to find space for Coke or water. Having said that, we would definitely stay here again!

Tartufo restaurant in Plaza Sta. Ana is much better than it's neighbor Lateral, even though owned by same person. Many wonderful place to eat within walking distance of hotel, and much cheaper. Look for fixed price meals that include 1st and 2nd course, drink and dessert for 10-13 Euros.(check out Restaurante Prado, around corner from hotel) Lunch time 2-5pm. Loved La Panera for paella and paté, La Barraca for paella too, El rincon for pastries, and El BotÃn-Hemingway's restaurant, in a cave) Look for where all the locals are eating and follow suit!!
