overall pleasant stay for our needs
Staff was excellent and very helpful. Location is great. Internet is an issue in terms of room access (although they have a business center). The walls are thin and you can hear everything. Although with any of the issues mentioned, you could not beat the deal we got so it was well worth it.

Principal Pio Hotel
I have to admit, my first dealings with the hotel did not go smoothly, they couldn't find my reservation and I was worried. The staff did not give up and were able to locate my info. From there on it was smooth sailing and for the price the location was perfect and the view was incrediable. I would rebook at the Principal Pio with out a second thought.

Not so wonderful place after all
The hotel is very near the Almudena cathedral and Palacio Real, and that was the reason I booked this hotel. It is, though, in another area entirely, under a passageway, and it really is another neighborhood and another vibe down there, not as nice as the one on top.

Euro novice
smack in the middle
pleasant, clean, simple rooms. Unfortunately, an older construction with relatively poor soundproofing - and Spaniards stay up late! (but they don't get up very early so there are opportunities for revenge :) ) Located about 5 minutes from 2 Metro stations. Right across the street from the high retaining wall around the Gardens of the Royal Palace. A nice walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor with a lot of interesting sights along the way.

nice services
it's a nice hotel with friendly staffs. they speak quite nice english and with patient. it's also an easy location to commute to different attraction place.

Hotel is located close to Grand
Hotel is located close to Grand Palace and #1 Madrid Tour Bus stop (which is very important as it's hard to get a space on upper deck if you try to board in the middle of the route). We walked everywhere including Prado which is on opposite side of City's central part. Famous Sol is just 15 min walking. But Hotel really needs renovation, especially carpets, though room was very nice and spacious and fully marble bath with bidet just outright great! What I disliked the most is only one English Channel (CNN) on tiny (maybe 5")TV - my monitor is much bigger. But given the price on our days of very cheap dollar it was fine overall.

Basic affordable bed in city center

Good location
Friendly staff who helped with the internet. Hotel itself does not have much amenities, such as restaurant. So be prepared.
