Horrible Staff Lovely Island

I must make it a point to write this review to save anyone from spending nearly $5000 on a trip to St Lucia at this supposed all-inclusive resort that turned out to be a disaster. What saved our vacation was the island and the friendliness of the taxi drivers. If you left it up to the staff, this hotel would be closed! Our first experience was that if you did not carry a printed paper copy of your reservation, then you would feel like you have committed the biggest offense in the world. They have no printer, so you couldnt bring up the reservation on your smart phone or print it at the resort. You had to email it to a manager so that the manager could print it for you and oh, you cannot use their computer, you had to go for a walk by The Cover restaurant which is the only place on the entire 65 acre resort that had wifi IF you held your hand up at a 45 degree angle and wished upon a star! Getting back to the issue of printing, after about three trips to the restaurant and back to get wifi so that we can forward the email to the manager who would print the reservation, we had to call the excursion company and we were charged $1 USD to make a local call. After that debacle, we went to eat at about 4pm and NOTHING!! The restaurant was closed and packed up to prepare for dinner at 6pm and a BBQ grill was present with leftover food from lunch. Absolutely nothing to eat until 6pm. All-Inclusive? I don't think so! Going for breakfast, please make sure to get there before 10am otherwise, your goose is cooked until noon! The workers rush you out of the restaurant to prepare for lunch at 10am and for dinner, do not get there after 9pm because you will get left overs and the workers are packing up the cutlery and food and preparing for breakfast and to go home. And do not forget to make a reservation at one of the specialty restaurants by 5pm. There is absolutely no bending the rules. At 5:05pm it is absolutely too late! There is NO room service so if you are at the 64th acre line at the resort, you need to walk to get something to eat before they grab the food and close and/or you would need to walk to the only area in the resort that has wifi if God forbid you need to make a call or use the internet. No wifi in the rooms and no room service! Talk about luxury! To get to Castries, its $30USD. To get to the gate of the resort its a minimum of $12USD. The guests use all their monies in taxi money because the resort is not conveniently located. The next time we go, Rodney Bay it is! Easy access to the local bus which cost $1USD to go to Castries. Let talk about the staff for a second, do not disturb them, they get annoyed when you disturb them from working. The wait staff has the worst attitude in the world and trust me, we have traveled the world. They are not very welcoming. You feel like they are doing you a favor. The pools are extremely filthy. The rims have grime that has not been cleaned in ages. The edges of the pool needs a good scrubbing and cleaning. This resort is so disappointing and a big big waste of money. I would have preferred to pay that $5000 to stay at the Holiday Inn. I know they would have treated us much better and we would have had room service, wifi and a clean facility. TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN!

Just ok

Lots of ants in the bathroom Needed to get insecticide from cleaning staff. No fridge when we arrived. Room never felt very clean. As its an older resort that would make a big difference. Plus side pools are good Kids had fun at water slide and the food was surprisingly good. Also far from airport

All inclusive vacation

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The sports staff was available to help with lessons and guidance for those who were kayaking or waterskiing for the first time. Water sports were included so it was a good opportunity to try new things. Not much to do at night unless you go into town.

FYI

Coming from the states we had expected something completely different. we had expected a super clean and classy place and was a little dissapointed when we had got there. the room we had been put in was somewhat run down, so we decided to pay a little extra for a suite which was well worth it. The trip was awsome and have no regrets but be sure to realize where you are going and lifestyles may be different than where you come from. the nature was amazing and worth it!! But remember sun screen and bug spray.

Disappointed

The hotel grounds were very pretty. The pools were nice, but not the cleanest, as they are 10 feet from the beach. Many people don't wash off the sand and go straight from beach to pool, leaving the pool looking dirty. Staff was working around the clock to keep the grounds maintained and cleaned, while they should have been taking lessons on customer service. Service was very poor. Upon arrival (after a 2 hour ride from the airport!) the reception was very disorganized and not very informative. We were corralled with other families and given a briefing of the resort as a whole. Not very personal. Once we got to the room....they were DISGUSTING. Very outdated and ANTS/bugs everywhere. The bathrooms are the worst. There were holes in the walls and spider webs. The grout in the shower was black. I absolutely refused to bathe my 10 month old daughter in the tub. The crib that was provided for her though was good. Beds were comfortable. The restaurants were above average. The italian restaurant was the best. Followed by the buffet. The website says that there are golf carts for use. The resort is very large and spread out and often a hike to your room. It was impossible to get a ride on a golf cart, as most of them are used by nasty employees. My husband was even refused a ride to our room by one of them. Very bad customer service. Wi-fi was only in the lobby and lounge and didn't always work. Also we heard of at least 3 robberies while we were there. Inside jobs stole anything from money to cologne, so lock your stuff in the tiny box they call a safe. I felt that we paid too much for what we got. We did have a couples massage outside in the wedding gazebo which was very nice. People working in the spa were good. Overall, our vacation was nice b/c of what we made it. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to others simply due to the customer service and nasty rooms.

Great vacation spot!

Visted summer of 2011. Overall a good experience. The resort is in a great location on the island. The food was good; however for dinner if you want to dine at a restraunt other than the Cove you have to make reservations days in advance. My husband and I thought La Trattoria was the best. A lot of activities to choose from, there were also a lot of kids - we had signed up for sailing and wind surfing but all the equipment was broken or in use..My husband and I rented a car and spent most of our time exploring the island.

Amazing and unforgettable week

My family and I had the time of our lives. This is the perfect place to make everyone in the family happy! I loved the spa, my husband got to golf (the only golf course on the island is across the street,) my sons each found different things to do (though both pretty much lived on the water slide.) Lots of places to eat, whether laid back at the buffet or more fancy dining at Cafe Asia or family dining at La Trattoria, there was something for everyone (and there's a seafood place too!) We would have loved to stay another week and are planning my family reunion this summer!
