girls getaway
went there with 6 other girls. we had a good time. I'd have to say the hotel was pretty average. the beach was ok but was manmade. It kind of sucked that you couldn't just take a long stroll down the beach. The food was ok. nothing spectacular. there were multiple pools which was nice, but the water just seemed so cold. the staff was friendly. overall it was a nice trip and was a good trip for the price we paid.

Vacation with friends
We were escorted in to a private room with Rebecca & we checked in while enjoying a lovely glass of juice w/champagne. Also, my husband & I had a couple's massage & Ada did mine. She was outstanding!! Lovely manners, very therapeutic massage & totally professional. The staff were professional, friendly, helpful & treated us like kings & queens!! We stayed 5 days this year, then went to the Allegro Playacar & we were very disappointed in the rooms there. The staff was unprofessional & not helpful. We are coming back to Xcaret Grand Occidental next year for 10 days!! We LOVE IT THERE!!! You all have for the last 4 years made our vacation experience absolutely WONDERFUL!!! Miss you and will look forward to seeing you all next year!! xoxoxoxoxoxo

Wonderful Resort
This was our 4th stay at Grand Xcaret and we are always very pleased with our stay. Snorkling is absolutely fabulous right at the resort so bring your fins and mask. We've gone on paid snorking trips that aren't a good. The food is very good and there is always a great selection. Rooms are spacious and the showers are huge. We will return for a 5th time!

Remarks
- The park and the wildlife were nice; - The cost is rocky and beautiful; - They have activities going on all through the day mainly for children, and then they perform nice shows in the theater at night; - If you are looking for great food, this is not the resort for you. Couldn't get reservations at the reserved restaurants even though tables were empty. The restaurants' and buffets' service is not sufficient and prompt enough. Many times there was not enough food and assortment was poor; - It's too many people and very small beach; - Staff members are trying to sell you something. They really push the time-share thing hard and they try to sell you excursions too.

Awesome staff
We just got back on 1/26 from a week stay at Occidental Grand Xcaret. We hired USA transfers who promptly picked us up at the airport and took us back. When we arrived at the Hotel we were welcomed with a cool drink and escorted to the Royal Club for a private check in. Our rm number was 32204 and had a beautiful view of the ocean with two decks, one with a hammock off the bedroom and the other off of the living room. The room was very large with a vaulted ceiling separate living room, bedroom and bathroom with double vanities, large shower and huge whirlpool tub. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. We loved to walk around and admire all the greenery. The food was awesome. Especially at the Royal Club, which has its own restaurant,. We also ate at three of the reservation only restaurants. Our favorite of the three we tried was the food at the Oriental. The lunch and dinner at the main buffet restaurant was just ok, but their breakfast there was very good. It really didn't matter because we had awesome meals at the royal club and the specialty restaurants. The royal club restaurant was also by the ocean, very quiet with lovely views. The beach is very small but we walked to the north over the rocks towards Playa and found nice stretches of sand with few people. We also bought a multi day pass for Xcaret Park, which is very beautiful and spent 3 days there. It is a short 10 minute walk from the Hotel. Finally, my favorite part was the Hotel staff. Every person there was friendly and helpful. The people at the Royal Club went out of their way to help us. We had a bad encounter with a tour we booked with a vender at the hotel to see Chichen Itza. The vender did not tell us that the tour bus would be spending all morning stopping at other hotels picking people up before heading to the site. My wife got motion sickness at the last stop before heading to the site due the window shades being closed and we had to get off the bus at Tulem and hire a taxi to take us back to the hotel. Unfortunately the tour company did not refund any of our money. We talked to the staff at the Royal Club and they set us up with a private tour to the site for the same cost. The Royal Club even packed a lunch for us! On another occasion I booked a fishing trip with a dive shop vendor on the grounds for fishing. The winds came up the next day and it got cancelled. The vendor told me they would refund my money, but after 4 tries and the same answer to come back I took my complaint to the staff at the Royal Club. The staff at the Royal Club called the shop and they hung up on them. The staff then called the hotel manager who went to the dive shop and talked to them. The hotel manager was very nice and said that if they don't show up with the money before we left, she would give us the money owed. Finally, the dive shop showed up with my money right before our taxi arrived to take us to the airport. We really loved staying at this Hotel. The staff was awesome, and not once were we hounded by time share people. If you do go, spend the extra money for the Royal Club, you will be treated as royalty there.

Occidental Grand Xcaret
Just got back from a week in Mexico and had a great time. The Occidental is a huge resort, be prepared to walk alot, which is a good thing, since the food and drinks will weigh you down otherwise. Food was on par for your typical all inclusive resort. Even the specialty restaurants were only okay. There is a good variety on the buffet and you should be able to find something you like. The crepes at breakfast were very good. We were in a Junior Suite and had a lot of extra room with a separate living room are with a low wall between that space and the bed area. There was also a nice wrap-around patio (we were on the first floor). Room was very clean and comfortable. The grounds are very lush jungle, and we saw a variety of animals including monkeys swinging from the trees. The staff is always keeping the paths clean. The pools are huge, but it can be a challenge finding an open chair, just make sure to 'reserve' your chair early. If you are a beach person, this is NOT the resort for you. The beach area is a multi-level man made inlet. While the water is great, and protected, it isn't a real beach. We are more pool-people, so we knew before hand. There are bars everywhere for those that want to drink. The bar staff are friendly and quick with the drinks. Mudslides were the drink of choice for us. The wine at dinner was okay, and it seemed there was a different variety every night. We are scuba divers and booked this resort because they had an on-site dive operation, unfortunately we found out after we had booked that the dive op was on-site, but their boat wasn't. They provided transportation to another resort for the diving. The dive op was okay, and looking back I would have booked my dives with a different op. The diving itself was great, warm clear water on drift dives. Not as spectacular as the Cozumel side, but much nicer than PA or NJ. Overall, I had a very nice vacation at the Occidental. If I go back to this region again, I would probably book something in Playacar where I could walk into Playa del Carmen for some dining and entertainment variety.

Good - Not Great, but Good
The overall experience was good. We booked at the last minute to get away for my birthday and Christmas. My husband and I travelled with our two sons, 20 and 10. We had to switch rooms because we were given rooms that were not near each other. We moved to our second rooms the second day of the trip. Afrer moving, the second rooms weren't as nice as the first, but they were side by side. The toilet in our room kept leaking and the patio door in our son's room did not lock. It made me a little uneasy, but we dealt with it. Also, our shower leaked when taking a shower. The room was clean and the staff were friendly so that made it a little better. I would give it an overall rating of 3.5. My boys both enjoyed themselves. They were both occuppied and had fun. Of course, I am more picky than they are. We've been to a Jamaican all inclusive which was a lot better and it was rated a 4 star. I also did not care for some staff trying to push the vacation club on us. We were not there to take a tour and buy into a vacationclub/time share. We were there to relax and have fun. They were a little pushy at first (first 2 days) my husband had to "get nasty" for them to leave us alone! After that it was all good. I would recemmond someone to go there, maybe not pay what we paid & of course I would be able to tell them what to look out for and expect.etc.... Also, the beach is not that good. It is too small we were not able to get a spot on Christmas morning we got there around 11 a.m. and all the chairs and cabanas were taken. So if you're looking for a nice spacious beach Occidental does not have one.

Short walk from hotel
If you visit XCaret Park, It is a 5 min walk from the resort to the Park itself. Don't waste money on food at the park, walk back to the resort and have lunch. You can even go back for dinner like we did because we ended up watching the evening show at XCaret Park.

Good Resort, Poor food quality
Good Resort, nice pool, reasonable small beach. Very poor food quality, including the specialty restaurants, that makes it hard to decide to go back. If they improve the food quality and get rid of the timeshare salesmen, that would be a very nice vacation resort

Nice but not extravagant
The grounds are very nice but the hotel and room look a little run down. Beach chairs and gym equipment can also use an update. What was most bothersome was the staff trying to get you to Attend their timeshare presentations. We got a good deal for this trip and feel we got what we paid for.
