Overall very good but a few small improvements would of helped.

Food and drink were very good. Especially enjoyed dinner at the Marina or seafood restaurant. Good quality and nice variety at the buffet. Service at the restaurants was very good to excellent. The grounds and landscaping were very well designed and maintained. Nice variety of plants and lots of little signs and plaques that described and explained some of the local animals and vegetation.Buildings were well maintained as well. Pool area is very nice, the beach not so much. Water quality at the beach was not good with a fair amount of small debris (paper, plastic bottle caps etc.) floating in the water. The staff did a great job of keeping the beach very clean, but of course could do little with trash that was in the water itself. We did some snorkeling farther up the beach closer to Puerto Morales, and the water quality there was much better. I'm not sure why there was such a difference, as the distance between the two beaches is only about a mile. Room was a bit noisy. We were in building 19 and a lot of golf cart traffic (used for baggage delivery, room service etc.) ran along on the pathway outside my room door. The gas powered carts were very noisy and ran early and late. I realize the carts are needed to provide service to the guests, but the use of quieter electric carts, would of been much less obtrusive, and I would of slept much better. If you get a room in building 19 request a room on one of the upper levels. Unfortunately the week we picked for our stay featured a lot of clouds and rain. While this was of course no fault of the resort, it would of been nice if there would of been a monitor with weather radar in the lobby area or better yet available on the television in our rooms. With the week we had it might of been a little depressing to check the radar, but at least we would of been able to see when the rain was coming and could of planned activities without fear of getting soaked. I would recommend the resort to a friend that didn't want to spend much time in the ocean.

Wonderful Family Vacation

My wife, two teen-aged children and I had a wonderful winter break at Hotel El Cid. The accommodations were clean and well-kept. We had a balcony room overlooking the pool which was ideal for the four of us. The pool area was constantly maintained and with any resort you have to reserve your poolside seating early, we never had any problems getting a lounge chair. There were activities during the day and family entertainment nightly. There were four restaurants available with two of them featuring breakfast & lunch buffets. As with any mass production of food, it isn't gourmet quality, but there is enough variety where you can find something to enjoy. The all-inclusive package also includes a mini-fridge that is replenished with water, beer & pop on a regular basis. The service of all individuals we came in contact with was superior. The staff is friendly and caters to whatever you need. Note: Couples and families who fit a certain profile are approached about going through a 90 minute presentation about becoming members of their vast networks of resorts & hotels. If this is something you may be interested in, it may be worth your time and also a free activity. If you do not want to give personal info. and be talked to by 3 sales reps. kindly tell them. All in all, our family had a vacation which we will always cherish.

should of been better

my overall experience was pretty good I just had a couple of issues like one night I woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning sweating my butt off because the hotel decided to turn off the AC for maintenance well I was sleeping in the room so for 12 midnight till 7 o'clock in the morning I was almost 80 degrees in my room I have to leave the room around 3 o'clock and go walk outside because of how hot it was. the next day I went to the bathroom downstairs in the main lobby and I guess somebody had peed all over the place, and this is not really the hotels, but as soon as I walk in the bathroom I slipped and fell on my back. I didn't hurt myself but when I let the staff know they just brushed it of and said okay thanks for the info. Most of the staff is a 10 excellent didn't have better but these couple things made my experience Not so good. my major complaint was the fact that the AC wasn't working when I went to the front desk and ask to have a manager call me or somebody in charge they never did totally ignore me until the day I left concerning the AC. so I feel I paid for a nighmare day and should have goten some sort of credit for this day. one more thing the advertise free WiFi but they charge you for it which makes no sense I can get free wifi at Motel.

The most relaxing experience ever!

I relaxed everyday with a drink (not a lot of alcohol) in my hand and reading my book in the sun. The only difference from a sunny and rainy day was that you relaxed inside instead. Loved the tours Cancun has to offer (just shop around, do your homework with pricing and read up on the company and their service (don't believe everything you read, my tour company I give them a BIG fat 1 for service).

Recommend the All Inclusive it was so worth it...to me. I saved a lot of $$$ not having to buy breakfast, lunch and dinner. And find a restaurant each time...that would be a wast of time and taking away from my shopping, relaxing, touring, and the sun!

Winter Vacation Terrific!!!

First time staying at this resort. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and the rooms were very clean and comfy. The beach location was also very nice with plenty of chairs and hammocks on the beach. Would highly recommend this resort.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Not much in town but if you like to sit in the square, have a beer and watch the ocean then this is the town for you. If you are looking for nightlife, try Playa.

Not my best vacation

Never left enough towels and wash clothes. Nothing to do when the weather is rainy, ocean water and beach not the greatest. A lot of seaweed on the beach and the water was cloudy. Other resorts had barriers built in the water to prevent the seaweed from washing up and help keep water clear.

It's good, but not good enough to go back to....

This hotel claims it's 4-star, but it isn't. It is not well lit at night and the hallways are slippery when wet which make it dangerous. Our room was not made up 2 of the seven days, wireless internet access costs extra, the beach is in an area that a lot of sand and dirt get into the surf...not that gorgeous blue you expect, the hot tub was not working one day and was just a tub, and services for handicapped persons were poor....not exactly the 4-star experience you'd expect... However, the food and waiter service is very good, and overall it was a good value for the money....but just one time.

Nice!

Room was large and clean. Food was simply great. We could not swim in the sea: water was muddy and with lots of seaweed, but the pool was good. We did not really like the entertainment: no stage, no comfortable seating, and, most of all, ridiculous show themes, like the rememberance of the dead. Anyway, the vacation was very good, especially for the discounted price we paid, which was $1,980 for two adults and one child all-inclusive with the airfare from New York city

A Little Disappointed

Hotel provides no transportation to and from the airport. "Upgraded" package at $80 per night is not worth the money. The upgrade was supposed to include several extras that we had to beg to get after they were promised to us. One restaurant of the 4 was closed. One other was open only part of the time. No much entertainment on the resort. The only shop in the resort had items marked up over 250% even on small items like candy or lighters. The VIP lounge is very small and doesn't offer much. All of the TV channels are in Spanish. The hotel grounds were nice and so were the staff. I just feel that the hotel made promises and then did not fulfill them without me having to remind them. Seems an upgraded package would have come with the benefit of them knowing you upgraded. This hotel is great if all you want to do is sit by the pool. There are not many adult activities.
