One of 24 five-star beach resorts operated by Grupo Pinero's Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, the Grand Bahia Principe Riviera Maya affords adventurers easy access to a number of ancient Mayan pyramids and coastal, walled fortresses. This complex contains three individual resorts named after regional settlements, each of which is geared toward different kinds of travelers. As a result, it's relatively easy to book a business, adults-only, or family vacation in a villa surrounded by lush tropical palms. Simply wandering around this resort in the Mexican heat is a great way to stumble across inviting pools, cool bars and fascinating shops.
Location
In the surrounding area, guests will discover hidden cenotes, water-filled caves that invite serious scuba divers and casual snorkelers alike, and parks like Xcaret, that give you a chance to enjoy the clear currents of a calm lagoon in a more naturalistic setting than found at any waterpark. Nearby Chichen Itza is a World Heritage Site, which includes The Castle, the Pyramid of Kukulcan and Juego de Pelota. The Sacred Cenote is a spot where the Mayans apparently made human sacrifices, and should not be missed by lovers of history, macabre and otherwise.
Highlights
  • Rooms by complex: Tulum - 858; Coba - 1,080; Akumal - 630
  • 11 international restaurants
  • 18 bars
  • 7 pools, including lazy river and lakes
  • Concierge service available
  • Wi-Fi (fees may apply)
Policies
Enjoy a quieter stay in this large complex by staying in a room further away from the central areas, or on the side of a villa opposite the nearest pool.

If you find yourself tired or lost from walking around after a long day, locate one of the many shuttle stops scattered throughout the resort, and wait for about five minutes to get a free ride.

This is not a comprehensive list of fees. Any amounts listed above may not include taxes and are subject to change.

Great trip!

This was the second time we have stayed at this resort and both times were awesome. We spent most of our time in the pools, which were great. The beach was about a 10 minute walk from the Coba resort, but it was nice as well. The buffet was amazing. I am vegetarian so am limited in my options but I found that there were always different things to try and I didn't get bored. The staff were very nice and rooms were always cleaned by early afternoon. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone traveling to the Mayan Riviera.

Great Trip

Very large resort with lots of greenery, plenty of pool options and a beautiful beach. The hibachi restaurant was actually REALLY good! The main buffet at COBA was the best of all the buffets we tried. Service was great. Enjoyed the nightly entertainment (Elvis Show/live music). Wish we stayed longer!

Beautiful Resort But Confusing Beginning

US Transfers was great ($135 RT) on time, organized and recommended. Drop off/Check-in (1:00PM) was quite confusing bounced to 3 different lobbies. Expected to wait due to the early arrival but, didn't expect to be placed in our room 4 hours later still waiting for luggage. The resort (we had access to Coba & Tulum) is beautiful, large and has plenty to offer - abundant trams for transport. Rooms were clean, buffet food was above average as well as al a carte. Plenty of beach to roam about although very rocky along the shoreline. Xcaret highly recommended. Avoid the Premier Club presentation a scam. Overall, a very nice resort and would consider returning.

father and daughter weekend

The stay was great. We were just there in April so we knew what to expect. We had an issue getting paid in the casino but we got it taken care of in the end.

girls getaway

We chose grand bahia principe coba because the price was great for all inclusive and it was far from the party atmosphere in cancun- all confirmed upon arrival. The resort was giant and well maintained but it took a while to get around and seemed like leaving the resort was such process. Other than that and the fact that our ac didnt work and the bed was extremely firm, this was a great resort. The food was great and available at all times. There was plenty to do at the resort and great information for tours if you wanted to explore the area. I would recommend staying here for more than a week as it does that a long time to get around. I also recommend visitng Tulum and the nearby beaches especially playa paradiso- this place was unbelievably beautiful. Also visit the nearby beach and cenote- playa x'cacel and x'cacelito- gorgeous!

a little taste of heaven

Had a fantastic time at bahia principe, even better than last time. Awesome staff all round, everyone works extremely hard to make your stay perfect. Only disappointment the privileged guest staff who refused me a tour because my husband was not traveling with me. .it was quite a rude altercation but couldn't taint the overall great experience I had and the perfect wedding I attended.

Beach now full of algae

Food still very good at this hotel and this is why we keep on coming here. With that said the amount of algae that proliferate on the beach is absolutely crazy. If you're going there for the beach you may want to consider another destination.

Just OK

Our visit was a little disappointing. Here are the key points: The hotel was not prepared for the number of people. They were frugal with towels, and there were nowhere near enough pool chairs to go around. The only way to get a seat was to get up early and save one. Beach seating was a little better but still not great. This was a problem because it meant that we had to decide the night before whether we wanted to hang out by the pool. The food was pretty good but sometimes things were mislabeled and the ice cream machines were often broken. The desserts looked nice but were just ok. The Mexican style dishes were the best. Big deal - we did not know that the Bahia Coba was not beachside!!!! We were told that it was the best for families but we would have been much happier staying at Tulum where the pool was beachside. We had to take a shuttle to get to the beach. It wasn't far but it wasn't the experience we were looking for. The hotel staff was just so-so. The restaurant staff was good but others less so. The concierge desk was not very helpful, and often backed up. On more than one occasion we waited in line only to get an insufficient response.
