AMAZING!!!
What you see on the picture is what it really is. I was blown away by the resort and the especially the wait staff. They are AMAZING!!! They go above and beyond for you. I wasn't sure what the butler was suppose to do for you but he didn't do much for us. Everywhere is spotless. I can't hardly wait to go back again.

What a wonderful trip! From the moment we arrived, we were well taken care of by the staff. Our room was immaculate with an extraordinary view. The kitchenette in our suite was well supplied. I did nor encounter a single staff member who was sub-par -- everyone from the housekeeping team to the butlers to the wait staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. We opted to go with the European Plan (not all-inclusive) since we don't drink and wanted to try different restaurants in the area. It was the way to go for us. The first meal we had once we arrived was dinner by the pool. Unfortunately, it was the worst meal we had in PVR. The final night we ate there as well and it was better this time, although the menu was quite limited and I can't imagine having eaten there for the entire trip. This hotel is in the 'Hotel Zone' -- which we found far more preferable than the Old Town area, which is dirtier, less intimate and had many, many more street sellers and locals asking for money. We had one meal in the Old Town and we couldn't return to our hotel fast enough. I would return without hesitation to Sunset Plaza -- it was an exceptional trip!

Great Couples Get-a-way
Just got back from a 6 night stay at Sunset Plaza. What a place! Every room has a view of the bay. The sunsets are amazing, and if you're lucky you'll see a whale! The rooms couldn't be better. We had a one room suite that featured 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom w/ a jacuzzi tub, and a balcony that stretched the whole length of the room, with access from both the living room and bedroom. The breeze off the bay, and the crashing of the waves on the beach were very relaxing and we slept with the sliding glass door open every night. This resort had a more adult/family atmosphere with very few annoying spring breakers, unlike the neighboring properties of Plaza Pelicanos and Las Palmas, which are owned by the same company. We chose the all inclusive package which included all food and drinks. The only meal I found that required an extra charge were the steaks at the Italian Restaurant, Lucian. They were an additional $10, and were WELL worth it. Even though there were only 2 restaurants, the food was amazing, and the menu's changed regularly. There are also meals not on the menu, just check out your neighbors table, or ask. The menu was a good mix of traditional Mexican, Italian, American, and French. Portions are very un-American (read small!), but you can always ask for more. The bar included well and top shelf drinks. Be specific when you order your drink, tell the bartender what liquor you want in your drink. They will happily oblige, but if you don't you'll end up with a well drink. We utilized the spa and had a couples massage in our room on our balcony. You can also book massages out on the beach. They ended up running about $60/person for 80 minutes and were well worth it. My only complaint about Sunset Plaza is about the check-in/check-out process. Let me preface this, I realize we were in Mexico and we were the foreigners speaking a different language, but based on our stay, I'd say more than 90% of the guests were either American or Canadian. The front desk staff were very difficult to communicate with and information was left out when we checked in, that we ended up receiving from woman working the excursions desk.. There is no express check-out, and the process took about an hour, causing us to be late for our taxi to the airport. The taxi driver had to wait for us, so we ended up having to tip him another $10 for his troubles (tipping for taxi's in PV is not customary). The majority of the staff spoke English very well, but for some reason the people they had completing this very important task weren't very fluent, which made the process extremely inefficient.

Sit through the time-share presentation. It was not overly pushy, the reps were friendly, and you will get freebies from the hotel valued at about $100usd per person in your party whether you buy a timeshare or not. We ended up with 2 free excursions, and 2 bottles of Tequila for about an hour of our time.

Perfect for the two of us!
This is a newer hotel - roughly 2 years old appearantly from the ground up. The property is beautiful. The pictures online are accurate. The location of the hotel is roughly 8 minutes from the PV airport so you don't really need to pay for a transfer. We actually paid for the transfer and was put into a taxi by our booking rep, whom we saw and heard from 1 time. Every single room in this resort faces the ocean. The patios are all very large and because the property isn't near greenery and expands up rather than out, we were able to sleep with the patio door completely open most nights. This property is not a party property. The all inclusive package that we did featured all made to order meals (any time of day) and top shelf adult drinks. We got to know the staff there over our week long stay and felt very comfortable. The gym is decent - features a few cario machines and weights. Nothing to get excited about, but plenty to keep you on track if you're training for something. We actually ran along the main drag two or three times and hit the gym up just once. Running downtown and on the boardwalk is at least 2 miles round trip. I'm sure much more.... actually. We felt very safe - we actually attempted to run a local path through some neighborhoods but the terraine was too rocky and I was nervous about tripping or tweaking my ankle. We did a couples massage outside on the rocks.....that was really nice and hearing the water crashing against the rocks was pretty awesome as well. We did the city excursion where they take you on a bus and tour the city and a tequilla distillery. The tour was nice - it involved a lot of walking on sometimes rocky paths and at various elevations. I wore gym shoes which was perfect. One evening we walked down to the boardwalk and grabbed dinner at this mexican restaurant which was really good..... it's past all the night clubs. We also did the rythms of the night cruise. That was nice..... I think my favorite tour, which was self guided, was our trip to the beach via water taxi. We were able to navigate our way to the brand new pier and catch the water taxi 45 minutes to the beach (can't recall the beach). The beach at the hotel is small and the sand isn't very fine. I would guess this would be similar for other hotels along that strip. The beach we boated to also had that rocky type sand. We were hit up for a time share/private residence presentation and decided not to do it at Sunset Plaza. We actually did one for another property (further north past the marina) and the thought of that experience makes me upset. Seriously - If you're not planning to buy - don't go! It's not worth a free anything!!! I would have been better off doing the presentation with this property because the other property had nothing to loose with wasting a complete day of my vacation. At least with Sunset Plaza, my recourse would have been a poor review. Oh well..... To sum this review up - I loved the property, beautiful and the people were wonderful. The location was great and I was able to get acclimated with the locals and the culture more than I had in Playacar. It's not just a massive property that could be easily found in Las Vegas. The beach is so -so... the food is fabulous (5 out of 5 rating) and so are the drinks. The flight and tranfer to the hotel was fine, although like I mentioned about - it's not worth getting. This review is not linked to any gimic - I went, I paid, I had a blast, and I am sharing my thoughts about this experience.

Great place to stay!
First off im a 30+ male form the states, non smoker and respectful of my surroundings. This hotel is great location, close to airport but not to close, never heard or saw a plane. Marina and Nuevo Vallarta to the north, downtown to the south about 20 min by bus or cab. All inclusive is an option and seems most people do that BUT they don't leave the resort ever to explore so if thats your idea do it. Only two restaurants and a deli so it could get old fast. We did not do that plan and just ran a tab on our room. Remember its pesos so its cheaper than any other trip! Staff is so helpful and you have a personal butler for your stay. Fantastic pool and swim up bar which should be better advertised on there site. Also a separate adult pool with cabanas. Only a few kids on our trip and they were hardly noticed. 3 great hot tubs above the pool area, could have been a bit warmer but great! Rooms are nice but we should have sprung for the suite in order to get a king bed, queens in the reg rooms. Higher floors are better as with any resort for noise. Do your research before you go on tipping, taxies etc. there is a grocery store up the street two blocks for and bulk items, sunblock water etc..bank atm there as well for best exchange rate. Hotel was good rate too. Brush up on some spanish but " no gracias" will fend off the constant flow of traffic on the beach of peddlers of fake silver! Barter everywhere! If you need to do activities, sign up your first day as they fill up, boat trips, snorkeling etc. i would return !

Best Hotel I have stayed at
Staff was so helpful, the atmosphere was gorgeous, the rooms(1 bedroom suite) are huge and clean with 2 full bathrooms. We opted out of all inclusive, because we wanted to eat out. We ate some breakfasts and lunchs at the hotel, and the food was very good. The adult pool was quiet and relaxing. There were children at the hotel, but we didn't notice. I would definitely recommend for families too.

I travel a lot and.....
I have traveled a lot in my life. This was my 4th time to Puerto Vallarta. I must say that I was more than surprised at this hotel. We were met by the manager upon our arrival, things were explain well and in english too which was quite good, the rooms were clean and everything was nice. Staff was more than helpful as well. One big point I would like to say which had turned me off of Mexico in the past was all the push for you to buy those time shares. I actually avoided going to Mexico because of that reason actually. This time, for the 7 days I was there, not once did someone approach me or even talk about time shares. It is apparent that it had affected tourism there as the American tourism fell off for quite a while as some of the locals told me. It appears they are trying to win people back now. The time we had there was absolutely fantastic and we will be going back there again for sure!

I love the eating places off the beaten path. If you go downtown into Puerto Vallarta, all the places are good to eat, but if you go into one of the side streets, the places have excellent food and are cheaper.

First time in PV
great stay, would come back again
4.5 stars (but compared to the way other hotels are rated on this website, I might give it 5) This is nice, clean, fairly new hotel. The quality is on par with a Hyatt (but not the nicer ones: Paris Vendome, New York Grand Hyatt). The staff are very friendly, and it seems they will do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable, and in a sincere way. Mostly families and couples here. It's a 5-minute (50 pesos) taxi ride to the old town, and taxis are very easy to come by in PV. Not much to do in the area or in the hotel at night - you will need to go into town for entertainment after hours. The biggest criticism is the noise from the sister property next door, which appears to cater to a Spring Break crowd and has loud music playing every night - but even that is tolerable. If you want a luxury hotel and you are used to staying in expensive properties, you might be a bit disappointed. But if you want a hotel on the nicer end with friendly staff, this is a great value. I would come back again.
