Not too bad....

It was nice. Great location. The reservations that a required for the non-buffet restaurants were difficult. Make them early! If you miss out, the buffet isn't bad though.

It's ok

The hotel wasn't great. The food was average, they always try to get you to sell you a timeshare. The pool is crowded and it was far from the center of town.

Decent, that's all

I have traveled to Mexico many many times and while I don't have much to ever complain about in such a beautiful country, this place is just not real comfortable. It's is outdated and beds are quite stiff. The pool is great and staff were great. I stayed here since I got it dirt cheap but I'd just assume pay an extra $200 or so for a nicer place.

puerta vallarta

The hotel staff was very friendly. We were upgraded from our garden view reservation, due to construction, to a beautiful 4th story room with a view of the pool, city and ocean. Food was good, especially loved the omelette station in the morning. Of the activities we went kayaking and played tennis (the balls were flat but we played anyway). We missed out on the put put and the rock climbing wall due to the rain. Great hotel, wish it were closer to downtown but the marina is beautiful.

Great place to stay

All inclusive was great. Everybody was so nice and friendly there. Great pool and small beach. Food was good most of the time and always got drinks whenever we wanted. Some small room problems but nothing to worry about. I recommend this hotel for a great getaway for a reasonable price!

Family and friends vacation in Melia

Puerta Vallarta is safe!!! A group or family reunion will have the best time. It is totally a relaxed vacation. Food is great and always available which is great if you have kids. The beach is right outside the hotel and the water was even warm in January. The pool has games, activities, and a bar connected to it. Did I mention drinks around the clock are included? Just remember to bring one dollar bills for tipping. Every evening there is a kids show and some sort of act performs. So entertaining and fun. I had a very relaxed time because I didn't have to plan anything. I was offered a city tour and tequila tasting and I went without my kids, just 4 adults from our group and that was fun but it pretty much takes all day 9:30-5 pm. But the most fun is to take 5 days and spend them at the beach and hotel having fun and not worrying about anything. There is plenty to do at the hotel with pool entertainment also, plus they have a kids club if parents need alone time. Every night their bufffet had choices of fish, chicken, pork or beef dishes. And it was good food with lots of variety. The waitors are awesome and hotel staff is wonderful and kind. You can trust them. They pick up anything you drop and save it for you. A quick tip: Just dont do the presentations because that means time share. We avoided that desk and weren't bothered at all. We even got massages at the beach and there is a relaxing garden room massage area too. This vacation was the easiest with kids and friends. Just get up and put on bathing suits and everything is ready for you from food, games, and entertainment. Go for it! You won't be disappointed. I will be coming back again because it's really a good deal and lots of fun. Kids will love it! Free kayaking at the beach. But if you want to go on a banana boat, jet ski, paragliding, etc. those activities are available at the beach too.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

There are vendors on the beach that are selling items far cheaper than the hotel stores. But remember if you say I'll think about it or I'm not sure right now. They give you even better deals. Negotiate with them instead of one for $5 say 3 for $10, etc. Also there is two men under a tent on the beach selling ziplining trips and fun adventures for kids 8 and older. My friends took their kids and loved it. Very safe. Also the beach vendors have great adventure deals if you book thru them versus the hotel. There's also men on the beach that come by with boats to offer fishing trips or boat rides. You can do a boat ride for $8-10 a person for an hour. I did that with my older son and yes he had life jackets and it is safe and fun. These vendors are here for you to make your trip more fun. They wont hurt you or steal from you because your happiness and comfort is their success.

Budget friendly but dissapointing

I have been going to Mexico for vacation every year for the last 8 years. I have always spent more but Melia was cheap and all I thought that mattered was being in this beautiful country. I was wrong The good: Location, pool, friendly staff and breakfast. The bad: rock hard beds, subpar food options for lunch and dinner (had to dine out), outdated facilities and rooms I have spent as little as a $150 more for other resorts and always been impressed. The saying, "you get what you pay for" will be loud and clear in my head this year when I book my next trip.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are several little restaurants in the marina across from the hotel that offer excellent authentic Mexican dinning, fun atmosphere and reasonable prices. (After one day you will not want to eat at the hotel again)

Mostly Average with decent food

This seemed to be an older property that is pretty quiet when not in season, which is when we stayed. There isn't much to wow you, but I think that the service was good and the food better than expected. Each night we stayed the buffet offered a different theme; unsurprisingly, the Mexican themed night was outstanding. The other nights the food was above average, with a lot more freshly prepared food that you don't get at a buffet style meal in most places. I am hesitant to knock some of the aspects of our stay because we stayed off-season and some issues we had were more endemic to Puerta Vallarta and the all-inclusive industry than the Melia. Overall, I felt the staff were great and the hotel was nice and clean, though they could use some updated beds and more pillows.
