recent visit
I have been to Puerto Vallarta Twice and stayed twice at Hotel Rosita. I do feel the rooms could use a little updating, but overall the staff, free breakfast, view and cleanliness of this hotel far outweigh the rooms. The rooms were always clean and we always had fresh towels. The view from the room couldn't be beat. For the price, I'd definitely stay here again. Love it

don't be afraid to walk a block or two off the boardwalk. I have found some of my most favorable places to shop and eat at there. I have never, ever felt unsafe in any way.

Nice place to stay
Nice place to stay. Excellent location, right on beach and start of the malecon. Drinking water jugs on each floor was very much appreciated. Very clean. Very nice staff. Well maintained. Nice pool. Lots of staff working in maintenance and cleaning but could have used a couple more waiters in restaurant and lounge. Bulletin board in lobby would have helped to announce activities. For example, there were tango lessons Sunday nights which we just came across accidentally and we would have taken. There was also rib dinner night which was announced by a paper under the door. If there were other activities scheduled we wouldn't know. Breakfast with coffee which was included in the room was not that tasty, but they did make great pancakes on pancake day which was about once a week. Food in the restaurant was quite good.

Breakfast Included ......
... that depends on what you call "breakfast"! The first morning we ate the scrambled eggs and skipped the beans and cold white bread slices. The second morning all the guests (not from Mexico) either agreed with us that it was NOT a breakfast, or skipped the"buffet" entirely. It was refried beans and chopped flour tortillas in a watery red sauce.... no eggs or meat. But the plain white bread slices were still included. You could order a real breakfast in their restaurant at regular prices though. Most of the staff were wonderful.... there were exceptionally nice front desk people, a great head waiter/restaurant manager in a printed shirt, very nice maids, and a GREAT bellboy... Ricuardo.... with personality plus!! The male waiters had a bad "attitude" (our fellow guests agreed). Rooms are old, but nice and fairly large. Views are wonderful, and the location at the end of the Malecon is the BEST of any small hotel here. Our room had an ancient TV but came with many channels. Beds... 2 twin and 1 King size. Beds were a comfortable firmness, but they tried to make a double or queen sheet work on the king bed... which was not comfortable. Bedspreads are rough but clean. Room had a table and 4 chairs, but they have no microwave or refrigerator. No safes in the rooms, but they offer a safe deposit box for an 850 peso deposit (don't lose the key or you lose the deposit) Our patio door would not lock, and it looked like someone had tried to break in previously as the metal was all twisted. We noted this on a maintenance slip, but it was not fixed. Free wi-fi worked good in our room. Swimming pool is small but clean. Shower was good temperature and water pressure. Purified water is supplied. The best rooms here are in the building farthest from the Malecon. Corner rooms there are fantastic with balconies having about a 280' view. The worst rooms are supplied through another internet travel site, and are horrid little rooms on the street side. DO NOT STAY IN THESE ROOMS!! I would stay here again, but would not care about the "breakfast included" option.... yuk! We ate some lunches here, and they were very good. This was my sixth stay at this hotel, and if you want to see the old town areas of Puerto Vallarta and the free entertainment along the Malecon every day....... this place can't be beat for location. We usually stay 2 weeks at a condo, but always add a few days to a week more at the Hotel Rosita before coming home. If you have to have the Nuevo Vallarta style hotels this may not be to your liking, but most visitors should experience the charm of downtown Puerto Vallarta and give this hotel a try!

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
For an affordable dinner with a view of the Malecon in their upstairs dining area... try La Chata (La Chala?). It's a great place to dine while watching the sunset and the activity below on the Malecon...... and I think the prices are very good compared to other restaurants in this section of town. It is located near the north end of the Malecon. Service is good. I especially like the Enchiladas there.

Best place we found in Vallarta
We found every aspect of Rosita to be excellent - check in was easy, they people at the counter were more than willing to work with us and solve any issues, and the location was simply stellar. It should be said that this isn't a US hotel, and it's at a high-tourist location, so it's both not quite as nice as the US and not quite as cheap as the average Mexican hotel. That said, our stay was quite satisfactory.

Short drive from hotel
Don't buy anything in Vallarta. Take the 45 minute bus trip to Sayulita and almost everything is better, more unique, and cheaper.

great location and price includes a good breakfast..
have stayed at ROSITA a couple nights a year for the past 10 years. Really like the great service and since this hotel borders THE MALECON, I can walk to most everywhere in P.V. that I want to go.

Rosita
desk staff not integrated in the reservation, room assignment, availability loop. Clients are referred to a black phone to resolve issues. Rooms fronting the somewhat busy street are noisy but this can be controlled by using A/C. Included breakfast unimaginative and repetitive, lacking fruit, milk and juice choice. Dining room staff friendly but tending to be inexperienced and focused at times.a la carte menu good and reasonably priced. the Rosita, with it's Spanish architecture is a safe ,clean and well located hotel for budget conscious travelers
