misleading advertising

the advertising of the hotel is quite different to the reality of the place. It is located in a very busy street where you just can't get away of the noise of the traffic day and night. The rooms are very small and uncomfortable, and the television didn't work at all. The lady at the desk did not help with any information and needless to say, although I was already pay for, I did not stay a single night.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

THIS HOTEL IS NOT VERY COMFY. THEY DON'T EVEN PROVIDE COMFORTER'S ON THE BEDS- ONLY A SHEET. THE ROOM IS VERY SMALL ITSELF AND THE BATHROOMS ARE TIGHT. THE HOTEL OVER ALL IS CLEAN. THE STAFF IS NOT VERY FRIENDLY- THEY DO NOT ALWAYS GREET YOU OR TALK TO YOU(FRONT DESK) THE OTHER MAINTENANCE STAFF IS VERY NICE AND ALWAYS GREETED US. I AM NOT GOING BACK TO THIS HOTEL.

Great Price, Great Location, but...

I enjoyed the location, I enjoyed the room service (one of them was a very sweet guy). The internet service was not good. I had to go to Starbucks to check emails because my "hotspot" was entirely too expensive. But overall I enjoyed the hotel because of the price. Don't expect lots of space. I rated a two... because the hotel must provide foreigners a strong internet signal. Overseas connection fees are entirely too high.

A Spring Break Trip

The truth is that I did not listen to the reviews about the hotel. The bed was a killer - I came back with my back dying. I need another trip just for my back now. The noise level would have been tolerable if the bed did not hurt so much.

There is a marvelous pottery/lamp store very close by. It is a gem. Locals go there and buy so you know you are getting a good price for things.

Good & Bad Location

The hotel is very modern and clean. The staff is very friendly as well. WIFI is hit or miss...sometimes strong and sometimes not. The location is both good as far as near everything you want to be near. But, Bad as well as it is on a very busy road. The traffic noise is 24/7 if you are in the front of the building on Mexico Ave. Also, avoid rooms 208 to 211 as that is where the housekeeping staff load their service carts...less than quietly. They are around that area on & off for hours. Hotel and area are Gay friendly.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Try the Zip Line Canopy tour...It is fun. Just realize it includes a lot of trail walking to get to the stations. Make sure you go early in your visit, weather permitting, if you intend to order photo's as that takes them a few days to come back.

Best Value Near Malecon- and Friendly !!

I would return to this hotel. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the hotel is only a year old. It is modern, but still retains the old-style local Mexican charm. It has a buffet breakfast until at least 11:00 (usually longer). Food is simple, but a great value for the price, and tasty and filling. It is located on the roof (with the swimming pool). Lots of fresh juice and fruit accompany your meal. The hotel is not on the beach, but has a view of the ocean from the roof. The beach is less than a 5 minute walk. Rooms have a large flat screen TV on the wall, free Wi-Fi, bathroom amenities, air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Outside rooms have a small balcony which I liked... inside rooms are a little larger but do not have windows. The maid was very good. Juliet, at the front desk, speaks English and was very helpful. The large lobby has 3 computers which are free to use. The Malecon is a few blocks away, so you can enjoy the local festivities there and watch the beautiful sunsets without having to take a taxi. Ley's grocery is across the street, in case you'd like some pop or an ice cream--- and it also has a good bakery. The price was very good for a hotel in town. Ask for a blanket. No washcloths available (common in Mexico). They had problems with the room safes, and those are not back in the rooms yet. Early or late arrival is no problem--- they will hold your luggage at the front desk area and we even checked in 3 hours early! Rooms are small, but space is used well. Room had a closet and shelves, desk and comfortable chair, and a nightstand. It looks just like the photos on the website....... most hotels do NOT look like their photos when you get there! Police patrol the streets and beach area on foot... we felt very safe here and heard of NO ONE having any problems. We stayed 5 days. We cancelled at another hotel nearby after we visited it and found heavy mold everywhere, and a broken elevator with 3 long flights of stairs to our room. (Casa Dona Susanna, of the Los Arcos group) Plus, we saved over $200 at this hotel by switching. I think this is the best value at this time for a hotel in town..... clean, new, safe, good food, and VERY friendly !!

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Eat the breakfast buffet. 60 pesos... about $5.50 US dollars..... all you can eat. Change your currency at the little money changer booth at the bus stop just across from the north end of the Rosita Hotel. It usually has an exchange rate very close to the bank's, and you don't wait in a long line (which the banks usually have).

Unbeatable location for the price

The Hotel Portonovo is a diamond in the rough. The beach is 2 minutes away and the Malecon boardwalk is a 5 minute walk. The hotel is rated 3 stars and is one of the smaller hotels in the area for size. That's what's makes it great!! The Service and Concierge treat you like family which makes it a 5 star plus hotel. The Portonovo hotel is super clean inside and out. The restaurant and bar up stairs has a great buffet breakfast to get you day started. Sergio was a great concierge didn't matter if it was 8am or midnight he was always there to help us out. He hooked us up on some great excursions. I would recommend the snorkeling at Chico's dive shop and the pirate's dinner cruse. Both were great. Nice to walk the Malecon during the day but it starts to come alive at dark. Great street acts, dessert vendors and clubs to enjoy all night. If you want to eat some wonderful Mexico food at a cheap price? About 2 blocks towards the Malecon open your nose and look for the people you can't miss it open 6pm-2am. For all you people that stay at a 5 star all inclusive resort you don't what you're missing. We can't wait to get back to the Portonovo Hotel. [...] will be seeing you soon.Senior Kevin

Hotel Portonovo Plaza

Just a block from the sandy beach. A good 25 min. walk from Centro, however, only 4 blocks from the end of the Malecon. Lots of buses (6 pesos) and taxis (50 pesos) to Centro. Good unknown restaurants and many tacorarias in area. Hotel is new and clean. Staff very friendly and willing to help.

Great place, aweso location and service

I really enjoyed staying htere. It was a clean nice hotel in an excellent location. walking distance to everything. I was a single woman travelling and felt confortable walking anywehere, anytime. 1 block from the Malecon, and 1 block from the beach. The concierge [...] was excellent, he is truly giving you the best recommendation for tours and is very friendly. The only downside is that the wireless internet is slow and disconnect here and there but they have 3 computers in the lobby that are available to guest for free.I would highly recommend this place.

I enjoyed the town of Las Palmas as much (and maybe even more than San Sebastian). Las Palmas is a 45 min bus ride from the center ($1.5 each way). It is on the way to San Sebastian. You can also swin in a rievr close to a ranch there (15min walk from the center of Las Palmas)
