Simple Pleasures of an Older Hotel

An excellent location, 2 blocks from the Malecon and across from the river, Hotel Encino provided a clean and comfortable base for my week in Puerta Vallarta. I had chosen the hotel online for my first 2 nights in Mexico and was pleasantly surprised by my room - pale yellow walls and furniture painted turquoise, an outside balcony, comfy and cool. An older, Mexican hotel - no frills - but a friendly staff, clean room, and wonderful inner courtyard felt so good that i booked an additional week at the Encino at t he end of my trip. From there i could wander to the Malecon any time of day, or check out the market across the street, or wander the side streets over to the beautiful cathedral. My week in Puerta Vallarta was wonderful, in large part because i had a relaxed and affordable place to call home.

at dusk go and try the food venders at the southern end of the Malecon, a short walk from the Encino. The corn sold in a cup with a variety of condiments, or the crepes - both delicious and good value.

I stayed here for a week just after Thanksgiving. I arrived on Saturday, fairly early so the only room available was on the lowest floor-#108- facing the west & flea market. This made for alot of street noise early in the mornings and late at night. The hot water did not work for a day and half until i asked them to fix it. I asked them to move me to a river view room and they did for the last few days-room #323- which was 99% better except for a moldy smell in the newly renovated bathroom. This was a top floor corner room with wrap around balcony which you could see the ocean from the balcony! It is a cool looking hotel which maybe could use some maintenance, but clean. It was busy with Mexican vistors on the weekend but pretty quite during the weekdays. I loved the location near the River Cafe/Cafe Roma/flea markets. The TV had many chanels and the picture was good, but only 5 or so english chanels. The beds were relatively comfortable. The skydeck pool and sun deck were neat and provided great views. Maid forgot to clean my room one day and I had to ask her to the next day. It was a good deal for the price i paid. Front desk folks were great.

THERE IS A GOOD TACO STAND ONE BLOCK AWAY ON THE CORNER..CHEAP BUT GOOD FOOD. PRACTICE YOUR SPANISH WITH THE LOCAL FOLKS.
