great olf town loaction
I was in room 201 it was bright and very quiet with the AC or a fan on. The only window that opened was in the bath. This appeared to be one of the only rooms that didn't have windows into the courtyard which made things very quiet. Great value for the money.

Central, friendly hotel with good prices
If you are looking to stay in the old part of town, this hotel is great. It is one block from the beach. You get to use all the facilities of the sister hotel - beach chairs, towels, etc. - but no kids or families and half the price. The rooms are basic but have very good showers and air conditioning. The pool on the top of the hotel is awesome for early morning or late night swims. Everyone here was very friendly and helpful, even remembering our names throughout the week. Two drawbacks would be that if you are looking for luxurious room, this isn't it. Also, the hotel has no balconies like the sister hotels. But if you want a great base for exploring and having fun, this is it.

Location, location, location
First time using package airline/hotel deal. Price was great. Beautifully designed old hotel. Great tile work. Open air atrium was pleasant. Roof top pool is very nice for evening dips. Great views from roof top. Location is very romantic. Our room was very quiet. Would be nice if windows opened to the exterior to air out the room. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Best dinner at El Brujo Restaurant. About a 15 minute walk. Located on Calle Lazaro Cardenas. Great Seafood. Good prices. Quieter than most tourist restaurants.

decent place to put your head down
The hotel Dona Susana is fine, but certainly nothing to write home about. The room was small and uncomfortable and not totally clean. That said, it was a fine place to sleep at night, and the location is perfect!

Great Location, and good service... but.
Lovely place, great setting, and facilities, and I enjoyed my stay, overall... except for the following: The rooms all have a window facing the beautiful courtyard, but the staff is not very aware of the noise they cause, starting a bit early in the AM, carts, talking, etc., that comes directly into the rooms. There is a great deal of "condensor/motor" noise on West side of building. Should change the policy, especially in an "adult only setting", that you may have a guest to your room, but take the guests ID, and hold it till they leave. As long as the room is not abused, or the neighbors bothered, what business is it of theirs? Service in the restaurant and on the beach is VERY slow. The "supportive" staff (bussers, room cleaners, maintenance men, security) could smile a bit more, sometimes, too! No outside air connection?

Loved It
Great location if you want to experience the old town of Puerto Vallarta. Rooftop pool is great and you also have access to the sister hotel across the street, located on the beach and its amenities including a larger pool, hot tub, beach chairs/umbrellas, towel service, etc. May be a little noisy for some depending on how light a sleeper you are, I had no problem but there is noise from the nearby school (children playing) and some street noise, more so depending on which side you're located on but if you're staying downtown this is to be expected. Rooms are smaller than average if you're used to sheraton/westin/fairmont etc, and basic (no coffee makers here, maybe in the kitchenette suites) but overall I found the hotel to be a great choice for a boutique hotel in a great location if you want to mix going to the beach and experiencing the city.

Tons of food to be found nearby. Read up on travel review websites for top restaurants to eat at (too may to list) Joe Jacks for fish tacos and Harry's Bar for drinks and good times. Definitely try Casa Isabel's restaurant (they have a website) up on the hill. About a 10-15 walk up towards Hwy 200, across from the Coldwell Banker you'll see a lane that heads up a hill between condos. Head up there and look for signage and the building (sometimes can't see it due to the hill/other buildings) yellow building, thatched roof in parts, red umbrellas. Happy Hour was a great deal with great service and a great view. Also if you're out late there's some great taco stands on the street near the pharmacia (ask the locals for directions). We were regular 2am (or later) diners here. They're usually there in the day too.

Quite a pleasant experience
If you are looking for "The Miami Experience" stay in Nuevo Vallarta. If you are looking for the authentic experience -- this is it. Quite a pleasant little botique hotel (part of the Los Arcos group). They run a couple of hotels in the neighborhood, but Casa Dona Susana is the one with the "neighborhood" feel. Great little rooms -- classic Mexican feel - Great employees -- this hotel is the only one of its type with an elevator (to the best of my knowledge). I don't think it could be called "handicap accessable", but it is very old people friendly.
