Hotel was just ok. Really slow service everywhere. Buffet sucked, food was ok, few dishes at each restaurant were good. Bars only stay open till 10 or 11 and one lame club stays open till 1am. Beach was small but nice. I won't be going back to this hotel or area again.

Fantastic Hotel and Location

Having stayed at other 4 and 5 star properties in Cancun and Riviera Maya, I would place Dreams in the top 3. I love the location and all of the water activities that are right there at the hotel. And, the property is beautifully maintained inside and outside. I will certainly be back again!

Second visit less of a dream

For our second trip to Dreams Puerto Aventuras we traveled with our toddler, age 2. So this review is best for those with kiddos. Pool/ocean: The pool is nicely heated, meaning you can use it even if it's a bit chilly that day. Large baby wading pool and a swim area. The area near the swim up bar can get a little rowdy, but most of the time it's just great, though it can be very difficult to get a chair by the pool. The beach is nice and calm, even on red flag days because it's a protected cove. Perfect for little kids. No problem getting a chair on the beach. Biggest issue is that the hotel often runs out of clean beach towels and staff isn't particularly helpful about it. Food: The restaurants are pretty good, but the service is slow. Most don' t have children's menus but the waiters will work with you to make a dish for your kid from ingredients in the kitchen. Like chicken and rice, a fruit plate or pasta with butter. One even made a big smiley face of fruit. But if you are in a hurry, you're likely to frequent the buffet, at least for breakfast and lunch. It's not great. There is a special area for kids where there are usually chicken nuggets and fruit cut up small, which is nice. Service: Really spotty. Some staff members are over the moon to help you. Others act like you are an interruption. Housekeeping was the most pleasant. Avoid the concierge staff if you can. Felt like the staff was happier last time we visited. Room: Stay on the marina side - which they now call dolphin view although you couldn't them. It's much quieter. Also, try to get a floor high up so it's quieter. The ocean side is by the pool and there is loud music and fun which is great -- unless your toddler needs a nap.

Great Value

We travelled with our two kids (girls 9 and 5) and had a terrific time overall. The resort is great but on the small side, which we actually ended up enjoying because we felt like our kids were never too far from us. It also meant that it wasn't that far back to our room if we forgot something. The beach is small but protected from the sometimes strong surf by a reef. There is great snorkeling by the reef but you have to be careful as there are sea urchins. This won't effect you if you're just swimming close to the beach or using the water trampoline, only if you explore the reef. We preferred to snorkel in the "natural pool" which is a great tidal pool that has lots of fish to look at. We even say an eel and a seahorse in there. A highlight of the trip. The sailing trip is free and you go with one of the staff two at a time. You need to book in advance but it's great fun. The bungee trampoline was another hit with our girls. It's included but is only offered between 11am-noon. You must sign up right before to get a spot reserved. The entertainment was quite good, especially the Fire and Water show. One afternoon we were treated to some local break dancers and beatboxers who put on a great show. It was one of the best shows during our trip. The kids club was great and the staff there are all amazing. They really were. Our girls had a great time there but we did hear from other parents that it wasn't quite as successful with the boys as it was with the girls. We can't speak to that as we just have girls and they loved it. I was worried about a hard sell for the Dream Vacation Club. We were left alone but we did see some of the people getting a bit pushy for guests to attend the presentation. Just say no if you're not interested. The rest of the staff were all really great especially Carlos and Joel in the Seaside Grill. We only had one waiter who was not wonderful and that was in El Patio. The food was good but not great. We didn't care for the buffet much. It is small and the selection seemed sort of unfocused. It was hard to put together a meal that made sense from what they had. We tended towards the Seaside Grill and the Italian restaurant which were both good. The seafood place was very good too but since we have kids we were limited as to when we could go there. We didn't try the sushi place but were curious. Perhaps someone else will post what they thought of it. On the negative side we didn't like how far it was from the airport. That was made worse by how long it took us to get through Mexican customs and immigration the day we arrived. Certainly not the hotels fault but part of the reason it took to long to get there after landing. Overall we felt it was excellent value and a great vacation experience and would consider going back. We will probably try another Dreams property next time though.

Dream's Puerto Adventuras

This was our first all inclusive experience. The hotel was very nice, the food was good (not great), and the service was above average. We enjoyed ourselves very much, but when we return to the Cancun area next we will most likely look to stay at another location.

Great Hotel Great Location

You can't beat the all inclusive resort. This hotel has a great beach and 2 pools. Ones pool is adult only. Most of the restaurants were amazing. The location of this hotel is the best. Its located in a gated community with good shops and restaurants all by the lagoon with the dolphin discovery so you can see the dolphins while you shop. You can even get a ride (for a price) on a private yacht to go fishing.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to the Tulum ruins but I would take a taxi and pay for the tour at Tulum. The hotel tour groups do not give you enough time to enjoy the amazing beach at these ruins.
