Sandos Playacar Beach Resort and Spa - All Inclusive - Playa del Carmen

The only positive aspects of this resort that I can report are the beautiful beaches, nice size pool and the hard working support people on staff. There are many more negatives than positives regarding this resort and I would definitely not stay here again. The resort is not a favorable one for families particularly those with teenagers. The rooms that families are housed in are 1970's vintage and not worth the money. Our room had a swarm of flying cockroaches and the room we were placed in as a substitute was not much better. Security at this hotel is to the extreme and families are not made to feel welcome. If not for the beach visits each day and the other families that we traveled with, the trip would have been miserable. I definitely do not recommend. We definitely paid too much money for very low quality.

The hacienda junior suites have not been updated since the 50's or 60's. They smell like mold and mildew and have bugs. The beds are as hard as a table. The staff in the restaurants are very friendly, but the security treated treated our teenagers like criminals. Many of our teenagers were in tears and the 10+ families that went for spring break will never return there or recommend this place to anyone. I have stayed at 2 nice resorts in Playa del Carmen, but this is not one of them.

- Don't expect to do any work -Internet is expensive and lousy! - Don't expect front desk people to be polite, they have not been hired or trained properly. - Don't expect to eat healthy or tasty food, you get what you pay for. - Don't expect to relax, loudspeakers everywhere will prevent you from doing so, as will the myriad vendors (within the hotel!) peddling stuff at every step of your way. - Don't expect extra services to be priced fairly, they're extremely overpriced (parasailing for two: $140!).

We had a great time at Sandos. The service at the front desk was a bit slow. The entertainment staff were wonderful. They went out of the way to make sure that guests were having a good time. The food is definitely mediocre at best, and the ala carte restaurants were not all open during our stay, which was disappointing. Overall, it was a fun vacation and we would go back.

i would not recommend leaving your kids at the club, they do not really watch them

Room was actually pretty comfort except ran out of hot water sometimes. And staffs were very unfriendly and unhelpful when we reported the hot water issue. Other things were good.

The excursions were fantastic. Coba, Cenote, Mayan Village, The Jungle Place, and Cozumel. A few of the restaurants were exeptional but the buffets were average. Staff was fairly good and always welcoming. The wifi was horrible, the lobby keyed the wrong room for us on arrival causing a 2 hour delay, we ordered a taxi for a specific time that someone forgot about, and they need more bilingual staff at key points. A concierge that isn't trying to sell you a time share would be helpful. I liked the staff overall but would not go back unless they had better wifi available. We wasted a fair amount of time trying to get wifi with little success. They do have wifi available for 4.95 an hour but I have proprietary information on my computer only.

Pros: staff,clean rooms,location ,food Cons: The alchohol is watered down HEAVILY. For two days hordes of 15-19 year old teens found some way to get drunk and were obnoxious,knocked over elderly ,ran around pouring drinks on another,swearing loudly around children.Sandos was not interested in handling the situation.Maybe thats why they water down the booze ,in the future I,ll go to an ADULTS only resort.

The resort has many activities going on through the day and night. Rooms could be a little nicer.

For 2 out of 8 days our room was not cleaned, no soup in the washroom for 2 days. Staff at Meeting Point forgot to process information that we ordered bell boy service in the morning, so as a result we could be late for our trip to airport. When we were leaving (3 hours earlier than 12) housekeeping staff was waiting for us at the door of our room to start cleaning, quite a rash! Why there were no rash to give us a room when we arrived (at 1:00 pm) so we waited more that 2 hours to get in the room. Not fair! Conclusion - not high class service.
