Frustrated Family of Four
Not a Resort that I would stay at again
The only positive aspects of this resort that I can report are the beautiful beaches, nice size pool and the hard working support people on staff. There are many more negatives than positives regarding this resort and I would definitely not stay here again. The resort is not a favorable one for families particularly those with teenagers. The rooms that families are housed in are 1970's vintage and not worth the money. Our room had a swarm of flying cockroaches and the room we were placed in as a substitute was not much better. Security at this hotel is to the extreme and families are not made to feel welcome. If not for the beach visits each day and the other families that we traveled with, the trip would have been miserable. I definitely do not recommend. We definitely paid too much money for very low quality.

The restaurants on the premises of this hotel all have the same food. The food was mediocre and reservations were very hard to come by so I would recommend going into town if you want good food.

The Pros & Cons
Pros: staff, clean rooms, location ,food Cons: The alchohol is watered down HEAVILY. For two days hordes of 15-19 year old teens found some way to get drunk and were obnoxious, knocked over elderly ,ran around pouring drinks on another, swearing loudly around children.Sandos was not interested in handling the situation.Maybe thats why they water down the booze ,in the future I,ll go to an ADULTS only resort.

An Amazing Resort!
Overall this hotel was amazing. A ton of activities for adults and children of all ages. The staff at the resort was always helpful and very polite. There were plenty of restaurants to select from. One minor downfall is that the upper end restaurants required a reservation and there were minimal reservations available, also you could only reserve Monday thru Wednesday on Sunday and Thursday thru Sunday on Wednesday...so if you didn't know about the reservations, you didn't have an opportunity to dine. The resort offers an adult-only section, but it is very far away from the beach and other activities. I recommend a pool view or ocean view, these rooms are smaller but in a much better location. Overall, I give these a high recommendation...we will be returning!!

Venture in to Playa Del Carmen, there are so many new restaurants in town. You have the option for inexpensive or high quality dining. I recommend Aldean, a newer restaurant built into the jungle (literally), it was awesome!!

Playa Del Carmen Trip
The excursions were fantastic. Coba, Cenote, Mayan Village, The Jungle Place, and Cozumel. A few of the restaurants were exeptional but the buffets were average. Staff was fairly good and always welcoming. The wifi was horrible, the lobby keyed the wrong room for us on arrival causing a 2 hour delay, we ordered a taxi for a specific time that someone forgot about, and they need more bilingual staff at key points. A concierge that isn't trying to sell you a time share would be helpful. I liked the staff overall but would not go back unless they had better wifi available. We wasted a fair amount of time trying to get wifi with little success. They do have wifi available for 4.95 an hour but I have proprietary information on my computer only.

Coba, Mayan Village and Cenote were real good. The Jungle Place was good if you like to hang out with the monkeys. We rented a van and a Mexican Ferrarri. The van was a piece of junk and the ferrarri's were even worse but they did get us where we wanted to go. The location of the hotel is great, and they do have a lot of things to do especially for kids. If you need wifi don't stay here but if you can go without it's not bad.

Beautiful beach vacation!
The staff were very fun and attentive. They had a lot of activities for children. The evening entertainment was okay. Some nights were great, with others being just average. The buffet food was typical all inclusive food. The a-la-cartes were very good! The service was excellent at these restaurants. There was some 'wildlife' in the resort, including monkeys! It was fun to hear and see them playing in the trees. Being located in Playacar was great. We felt very safe there. We were able to take morning runs or bike rides and evening walks without any worry. It is about a 40 minute walk to 5th ave, so bring comfortable footwear! The beach is amazing, and you can walk for miles!

Sandos was great!!
We had a great time at Sandos. Everything was beautiful, they had a great beach location. A few things I would change would be the very uncomfortable hard beds and pillows, the food was so so. We were in a villa and the hot tub never worked the whole week. Overall our experience was great! The entertainment team did a great job and we loved the adult only swim up pool bar.

Another fun Playa vacation
This was our second stay at Sandos Playacar, and we were not dissapointed. The place doubled in size since our last trip, which provided more restaurant options and three more bars including an adult only pool bar. The restaurant food was awsome and service was spectacular. Buffet food was mostly average with an occasional surprise (BBQ ribs- YUM!) Friendly staff, and an awesome beach! During prime time it takes a while to get waited on for drinks and it was faster to walk up to the bar. Beds and pillows (byop) are hard, which is norm for Mexico. A thermal mug helps for cold beverages on the beach. Our 2 college girls, one boyfriend and one 12 yr old daughter had a great trip!

Take the ferry to Cozumel, rent a car and head to the East side of the island. Have a good lunch and cold beer (a few options). Head south along miles of undeveloped and beautiful beaches with body surfing size waves.(see it on satellite images) Coming back up the west side there is alot of excellent snorkling, just pull off road, park and dive in. Rent vehicle from an international chain ONLY and get the insurance. $148 total for a mini van , we had 6 people. Getting on and off the ferry, blow through the onslaught of pushy sales people and head for fun! Plan it all ahead and maximize your time on the island.
