Trouble

The hotel is in a good location however it has some problems. First the smell of mold. There was mold growing on the bathroom walls/shower. The whole unit smelled. Cleaning with bleach can eliminate that problem. Secondly, I have not had a washcloth except on the day I arrived. I was there 6 days and I never got washcloths no matter how much I complained. They told me that they were out of them.My third biggest complaint is that even though the hotel is very new, they do not have purified water. You must use bottled water when you brush your teeth. The hotel supplies a bottle to you on the first day only. Its up to you to supply yourself with clean water. Not a good feeling in the shower. I kept worrying about my lips opening and water going in my mouth. The beach is right out side your door and shopping on 5th Ave is within walking distance as long as the sun is not beating down on you. Evenings are fine, taxi during the day if its too hot. This was my first trip to Mexico so I am not sure if that is just the way things are there but I doubt I would ever go back. I can spend my money elsewhere and not worry about contaminated water and being taken advantage of while shopping.

Absolutely Adequate

Legally, this hotel provided everything to meet their obligations but absolutely nothing extra. No drinking water. No coffee. No salt. No pepper. Service was perfunctory and without warmth. The rooms were clean, maid service excellent, grounds were manicured and the rooftop pool/lounge area was magnificent. The pool bar was not open. We travel to Playa regularly and this condo/hotel misses the mark for us. Though it is a very nice property it does not have ocean views from the rooms and other properties are closely abutted making it feel "closed in".

Great restaurants: Baremar for incredible ceviche, Luna Maya for upscale Mexican food with a twist, DaGigi for great Italian food (best Tuna ever) all within a few blocks. Must try: Cactus Restaurant - still within walking distance but a little further.

OK hotel

It was a large condo type hotel but it was missing something. No washcloths for showers or dish towels for washing dishes. Most tv was in spanish with no guide to tell the english channels. Water was intermittantly hot and cold in shower. No real amenities, just a room. Construction was going on in a part of the building and made it difficult to nap or even read in the condo so we had to go to the pool or beach.

Good for one night

Just a stop over on a trip up North. Was nice to have a microwave and refrigerator. Surprised to find them in a reasonable room. Easy on and off freeway. Didn't use the pool.

The good and unforeseen

Unforseen problems - the a/c was frozen lst night we arrived and due to the loud humming noise we were unable to sleep. It was fixed immediately upon our phone call the next morning. Third night guests arrived after midnight and were very loud and noisey. Having a kitchen was great. Ate in a few times.

Great Location- Can't wait to go back!

I have to warn you that our Gray Line Shuttle Driver could not find the hotel because it was listed as Pueblito Escondido Resort by Mistik and not Mistik residence. The former name is emblazoned on all their logos, signs, room keys, etc. If you go there make sure you take note of both names to tell the taxi drivers.[...]Otherwise- what a wonderful hotel. Tastefully decorated, the staff was very friendly. Not all-inclusive, but dining is so cheap in Playa del Carmen. The location at the northern part of the resort strip ensured that you didn't have to deal with noise from the beach clubs and the construction that was all over the central part of the strip. It was still a short walk to 5th avenue and by beach, many of the attractions were easily accessible. This is a great resort for kids, people travelling in groups of friends and couples.

Outstanding!!

We loved our time at Mistik "Pueblito Escondito" in Playa Del Carmen. The hotel is located a block from the Ocean and the fabulous uncrowded white sand beach on a quiet dead end street. It is on the northern side of Playa, just off 5th Ave on 38th Street. Convenient location, out of the noise of downtown, but easy to walk to bars and restaurants. The apartments are spacious and airy. Our one bedroom suite opened to the main floor pool. So convenient and great to sit at our personal table and chairs and sip a margarita. (blender included in the apartment) The fourth floor infinity pool is gorgeous and lots of fun to enjoy as an alternative. We had a few minor problems with our key card reader the first few days, but management always took care of it promptly and graciously. Beds are comfortable, great shower, and a fully equipted kitchen. If you plan to cook, you might want to bring your own staples like salt and pepper, no food stuffs are provided. Corner grocery just two blocks away, and the Mega or Walmart a 35 peso cab ride. We will definitely return.

Great little restaurant on the corner next the the hotel named "Origenes". Excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner with great service. They had live music on Friday nights. They are closed Monday. Never crowded. Great outdoor seating under the palms.
