food and reservations not good
very nice vacation.....what we got we paid for....food was average at best and very long walks from our room.....the dinner reservation issue needs attention as well.....had to make reservations for the restaurants and when we showed up for dinner over half the restaurant was empty....if you are looking for above average or premium beverages try a different resort.... needless to say the trip was very fun and the bar and pool were fun.....the crowd is very young as well... We would go back to Cabo however, we would go to a different resort...

not bad
Definately worth my time to visit, although the vendors were a bit expensive considering it was Mexico. Walk further down the beach away from the resort for cheaper prices. Alcohol selection and food selection were great. Just be sure to make reservations for restaurants early in the day, otherwise they fill quickly.

relaxing getaway
The price and location were exactly what we were looking for. Breath taking views of the ocean from the pool. Enjoyed the option of two large pools. Food was subpar.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Must take the boat ride to see Land's End. For only $12 they pick you up at the hotel and bring you to the boat which circles around the arch and drops you off at the beach. Price is roundtrip.

Fun Hotel
If you're looking for fun, this is your hotel! It's a great environment for young couples as well as families with young children. Staff are very attentive and always friendly. The food is ok. Nothing I would brag about but I also don't eat pork so my menu options were limited. However, just be careful what you eat. Don't try anything you don't recognize. My mom got really sick with vomiting and diarrhea and had to be hospitalized over night. The location is great because you're close enough to downtown but far away from the city noise. The pool overlooks the ocean and the arcs. It's a stunning view! Also, use the hotels travel kiosk that is located on the beach. I bought a beachfront massage, horseback riding excursion and boat trip to the arcs. They are very reasonably priced and reliable.

Food
My wife was sick twice out of four days. Food was also boring, you could not upgrade beer or wine. The last night we both got so sick we almost did not make it to the airport. We talked to others who had a wedding party and ate at the same on grounds Italian restaurant. The whole wedding party was sick from kids to Grandmother.

Will definitely be back for more fun!
I had always preferred smaller resorts but the RIU Santa Fe has changed my mine. Yes, there are pros and cons to both but I really enjoyed the fact that I could start out at the pool behind building 7 in the mornings, enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean and the Land's End arches. If I needed a change of scenery in the afternoon, once the crowd, the music and the sun really picked up, there were so many other pools for me to choose from. I had previously read some reviews about the staff being rude and I just have to ask, are they sure they were vacationing at the Santa Fe? I experienced none of that. From the entertainment staff to the restaurant workers, everyone was very nice and polite. The maintenance staff was constantly walking around and cleaning. The one suggestion I read in other reviews, and I would agree with, was that the double beds in the rooms need to have some space between them instead of being pushed so closely together. But overall, the RIU Santa Fe is a great resort and I am already planning for summer vacation 2013!

Not Applicable
Unless you just want to try something different, I wouldn't waste time trying to reserve a specialty restaurant. The Baja California has a wide selection. One evening when it was closed and I had to reserve a specialty restaurant the food presentation was fancier but, basically the some of the same selection that was in the Baja California buffet.

Nice but....
This hotel was OK but there were issues. Most of rooms do not have ocean view. You must walk back to the back building to view the ocean. There are NO elevators in most of the buildings. There is NO room service and you can't get any decent food when the buffet is closed. It's hard to get restaurant reservations. Water went out twice when we were there. Ice machines and Jacuzzis did not work. Staff is nice. Can always find something to eat at buffet. Need closer bathrooms to pool areas. Had a good time with friends but don't think I would go back to the Riu.

Take bus to downtown Cabo which is cheaper than taxi. Bus is approx $1 per person each way. Taxi is $12 for total party each way.

Labor Day Getaway
The receptionist/concierge in our building was not efficient. It was raining and people had leaks in their rooms - people were in line waiting to speak to her and instead of assisting people, she started organizing her desk, the trash can, papers behind her desk. Also, making reservation for dinner was so hard. She said that we needed to make reservation in the morning of. We got there barely at 8:00 AM and was told it was all booked. I was given a room on the ground (0) floor- corner room which was dunk and dark. There were mosquitoes too. I asked for a room change as I booked a partial ocean view - this room did not have that. Needless to say, I was told there were no rooms availabe. Then it rained and our cieling started leaking at 3:30 AM. We were moved to a new room at 9:45AM. The buffet staff were all nice, friendly, and efficient. So are the chamber maids. bar tenders, sports bar attendants, and front desk people. With a little more staff training, we feel that this would be an excellent hotel.

Disappointed
Riu's grounds and facade looks amazing but the rooms are dark and gloomy. I requested for a king bed but got 2 beds. There was a typhoon on Sept 1 and when we woke up there was 2 inches of water in our room. There was no housekeeping number to call and no front desk calls were answered at 4:00 am. I called the operator to report our flooded room, waited for 2 hours and no one came. My husband & I had to use all the towels to keep the water from coming in. I called the front desk and someone answered this time & said that there was no call from our room#. We also had to walk far, a good 5 minutes, to get to the food court under the rain because the hotel did not have umbrellas. This hotel was badly constructed and did not consider the guests' comfort. The buildings did not have connecting covered pathways one could use to go from one building to another especially when it rains. My sister & her husband were moved twice because both previous rooms were leaking and this was prior to the rain. I could go on and on but our over-all experience with Riu was not a pleasant one. I will never stay in this hotel ever again.
