A delightful place in a beautiful city

The hotel was beautiful. The amenities and activities were fantastic - all around the day. There were multiple pools and even though the resort was full - we never felt crammed. So many bars and restaurants to try. The food was amazing. The only little setback were the wines - but who cares much about wines when you're able to get great cocktails, good food and fantastic surroundings. I highly recommend the place and I'd love to go there again.

RIU Santa Fe

The Santa Fe RIU is ok for a weekend getaway. Nothing to fancy about it. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. The pools are nice. The food and entertainment are mediocre at best. I would recommend the taco stand they put out in the evening. The "free" wifi was not dependable and only would work (if it was up) in the lobby. Our group ended up going to downtown CABO for the nightlife since the nightclub onsite was not that happening. (Cabo Wabo and Mandala Club were wonderful). For daytime outings I would recommend the Mango Deck. One downer was the shuttle (booked through this package). On our return to the airport it was very unnerving when they arrived 30 minutes late. We made it in time for the flight, but still was stressful. On the plus side the weather in Cabo this time of year is perfect.(80-85)

Great starting point

Cabo is a great vacation area for great activities and I could not have found a better better. Great jumping off point for the whole peninsula. Nice to have good food available any time you get hungry. We rented a car and it was well worth it to take the short trips into town. It was fun and felt safe driving anywhere. Great variety of adventures to take, but the best was the ultra-light plane flight. Just fantastic! Not at all scary.

Fun with Friends

Our room had a very strong musty smell coming from the air conditioner vent. We had to leave the door open and ceiling fan going 24/7. Our room overlooked where the workers got supplies for the resort next door and was very noisy starting about 4 am. We had to wash all our clothes to get the musty smell out when we got home. The staff tried to spray the room but it would only last for about 2-3 hours. Whale watching was great!! Saw lots and the tour staff was very fun and knowledgeable. We stayed at the same hotel 4 years ago and nothing has changed. Same evening shows and same meals. Coffee was terrible. We should have requested a different room but didn't want the hassle of moving and wanted to be by our friends.

Nice place, horrible clientel

Upon first arrival, you are almost overwhelmed at the size of the Riu Sante Fe campus. We found our building and settled in. We didn't realize that spring break happened year round at the Riu, but the all-inclusive that most people staying there were after was the hard liquor and canned beer in the fridge. There was yelling and screaming nightly from midnight until 2am in the halls and outside in the open areas. I guess when the night club in the resort closed down at 2am, the drunks headed back their rooms. The food was average, and I guess when you are feeding thousands of guests, that is the best you can expect. The gym was nice. You could only make one dinner reservation per day so if you forgot once, you were stuck with a below average dinner buffet. The steakhouse was really good, the Mexican place was pretty good, and the Asian place was not so good. You couldn't get a non draft beer anywhere on the resort, except the 6 cans which were replaced in your room on an every other day basis. The mixed drinks at the pool bars were bad and there was vomit by the pool bars on nearly a daily basis. I simply like a quiet vacation and a bottled beer and I got neither on this trip to the RIU. We walked to town a lot and didn't get our money's worth on the all-inclusive. Too many spoiled, rude 20 something's there and 50-60 year olds acting like the 20 somethings. Not completely the resort's fault, yet it is in the respect that this is the atmosphere it allows/creates. We almost brought our kids on this trip and I would have been furious if we had. This is no place for children. One bright note, our waitress at breakfast, Diana, was awesome. Sadly the rest of the staff was irritated by the non-tipping drunks and didn't care about their level of service.
