Secluded island paradise with beachfront location on Isla Mujeres
The Ixchel Beach Resort is near Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres National Park on the island of Isla Mujeres. The relaxing respite has an outdoor pool, complimentary wireless Internet access, a concierge desk and wedding services as well as tour and ticket assistance on site. The guest rooms feature televisions, in-room safes and bathrooms with showers. Penthouse suites have a rooftop Jacuzzi with panoramic views of Playa Norte and the turquoise-hued sea channel. An on-site gym, lounge and laundry facility are on hand as is a lounge and restaurant.

- The hotel is located Located just 50 minutes north of Cancun Airport, 20 minutes by ferry from Puerto Juarez, or 30 minutes by ferry from Cancun hotel zone. Exit Cancun International Airport and take Luis Donaldo Colosio Blvd. towards city of Cancun. Turn right onto Jose Lopez Portillo Blvd. towards Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam. Once you are at Puerto Juarez you can take an express boat. They leave from Puerto Juarez every 30 minutes and take 25 minutes. 5:00 am to 12:30 am. Approximate driving time to Puerto Juarez (Passenger Ferry) is 30 minutes and distance is 25.5 Km (15.85 miles).

OK, not great
The music on Weekends from a nearby bar is loud!!! Too loud for earplugs!! Goes on til 0300! Wouldn't stay there again.

Don't go there it is not nice. The room was gross and it is not updated.

Bass not always so great...
Hotel and staff were terrific. It is unfortunate that next door to the hotel is a club that has a tremendous sound system. Great when you want to listen to the music...not so great when you are ready to sleep. At least the front desk had ear plugs.

hotel ok but with issues
Arrived at hotel only to find out we didn't get a room with a balcony as we had requested. Then they shut off the water for repairs without notifying any of the guest. It was a major inconvenience considering it was New Years Eve and we wanted to shower before going out. Was great to walk to everything as it was relatively close to the port and downtown area. All the restaruants in the hotel and nearby were great - good food and reasonable prices.

Relax and Enjoy
The beach at this hotel is the best. If you get too hot just have them bring you an umbrella! I wish we would have had a coffee maker and small fridge. That was the only downfall about the room. We would have to upgrade to get those items. The shower was great!! Lots of pressure and they had huge towels. Everything was very clean and well kept. I would stay at this hotel again.

Go straight up the road from the west side of the Ixchel hotel and walk to the "T" and turn left and there is the grocery store. Anything you need is there.

sleeping in a cave
location was great, but couldn't see the ocean. The room also had no balcony so you felt like you were sleeping in a cave. The pictures you see in ads all show balconies and they advertise all rooms have an ocean view. Not true. The hotel beds were so hard that I had to buy a swimming blow up mattress. We never got washcloths, and would get coffee only sometimes.

Good hotel
The hotel is typical Mexico hotel. We went for a wedding and the Zama Beach is a great place for a wedding. The beach at the hotel is good. The service is good. [...] The hotel is very nice and [...] waited on us at the beach He is GREAT!! Also be very careful if you use their computer. I used the one at the desk and someone hacked into my email address and sent out a bunch of emails. That might not be so good for me in the long run.

Good location, rooms, & Service.
We started out with a Standard room with no balcony or refrigerator. Very spartan. We ended up upgrading half way through the week to a one bedroom suite with a balcony and a kitchen for an extra $95 USD per night (including taxes). Probably more room than we needed, but a much was much better then the original room we had. I do think that this hotel may be a little over priced. We loved the location right on the North Beach (Playa Norte) and how convenient it was to get to the Downtown restaurants and shops. There was some road construction between the two hotel complex (on Hidalgo) that was noisy and dusty, but other than that, the hotel was nice. We had excellent service with dinner reservations and our room upgrade.

great time at Ixchel
This was our first trip to Isla Mujeres, and it was so nice to be on the best beach in the area at a great hotel. The people who work here make the difference-everyone was warm & friendly. Because of the flu scare it was very quiet on the Island-I hope travelers return soon, these people are hurting. When you're here, get out and explore the island, we felt safe and welcome everywhere! Ixchel was the perfect fit for my husband & I who were celebrating 35 years of marriage. We like simple, clean, friendly accomodations in great locations, and this was just what they delivered.

Our favorite meals of the trip were at Olivia's. Delicious Beef kebobs on roasted rosemary potatoes, great warm bread, and tziziki(sp)dip for the bread. Great wraps, lamb, salads. Everyone here was so lovely, from the host, to the waiters, to the owner. Yum! Yum! Yum!
