The Royal Mayan is the hideaway for your Mexican Caribbean dream vacation. Nestled beside Cancun's finest beach, the resort offers endless views of powder-white sands and sparkling turquoise waters. Experience tropical ease and elegance at every turn, spacious self-catering villas and an impressive array of resort services.

Members and guests can relax on the beach or by the pools and enjoy a variety of activities including tennis, volleyball, aqua aerobics and sail boating.

One registered guest in each villa must be at least 25 years of age and willing to accept responsibility for the actions of all villa occupants.

Guests staying on Saturday night may need to change units. The hotel will work to avoid this scenario, but when necessary, management will work directly with guests to streamline this process.

The lovingly tended gardens between The Royal Mayan and its sister resorts The Royal Caribbean and The Royal Islander are full of hibiscus, bougainvillea and other tropical shrubs to attract colorful native birds and butterflies.

From its name to the sculptures of Mayan gods and long-lost rulers in the lobby and in the gardens and even the hand-carved mahogany villa doors, The Royal Mayan takes its inspiration from the Maya, one of the most sophisticated ancient cultures in the Americas. There is even an archaeological site on the doorstep! San Miguelito is a small Mayan ruin in the jungle between the resort and the highway that dates from the Post-Classic period of Mayan history (A.D. 900-1521), when Cancun was settled by traders, farmers and fishermen.

Guests have a choice of two restaurants at The Royal Mayan: La Palapa, a thatched poolside eatery offering International and Mexican favorites and El Conquistador, an intimate setting for a romantic candlelit dinner.

Indifferent staff & Moldy celing

The location was beautiful and the beach was fantastic. The staff was indifferent, not rude but not friendly. I believe I had one smile and that was from a grounds keeper. The room was good sized, but it was old and smelled musty. The celing in the kitchen/dining room had water damage and was moldy. We had a king and two twin beds. I was suprised to see that the twin beds were in the living room and were very uncomfortable murphy beds. I was also suprised to find out that this is a time share resort, NOT a hotel. I would NOT recommend The Royal Mayan or it's Sister resorts.

Not friendly staff

Orbiz, sold me an all inclusive package's hotel, when I got there, they told me that, they do not have an all inclusive package. Any way it was late night 11PM, So, we did not have option for that night. them when I got into the room, there was no welcome thing, not even a bottler of water. I call the front desk asking for a bottle of water, and they response was that they do not have any, and that it was save to drink tap water, or go out to search for a convinient store to buy it. It did sound very rude to me because it was late at night plus my first time been there.

Perfect hotel and location!

I was not familar with any of the Royal Resort properties in Cancun and this hotel was a perfect vacation. Ample room suites, wonderful kitchenette and each balony overlooked the ocean. The ability to particpate at all 4 resorts with free shuttle service between them was a super amenity. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was spotless. I had a spa treatment and it was exceptional in service.

The local transit bus transportation is about $1-$2 USD in the hotel zone and well worth the value and time. Clean buses and efficient schedule. I would take a bus before a costly cab when visiting Cancun the next time.

Great experience

My daughter and I stayed at The Royal Mayan from January1 to 6, 2013. Overall we had a very good experience. The hotel is very clean; grounds are well taken care of. The staff was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. The weather was perfect-warm and sunny. Three Royal hotels (Royal Mayan, Royal Caribbean and Royal Islander) are next to each other and the guests can use pools and restaurants at any of the three hotels. Free Wi-Fi in the room was slow in the evenings when everyone was logged on, but why do you really need an internet in the paradise? I highly recommend a visit to the Captain’s Cove restaurant across the street from The Royal Mayan and managed by the same company. Food is excellent, tables have view on the lagoon with crocodiles swimming nearby (they are not hungry –so do not vary, you will be safe). Only one suggestion for the Royal managing company: install at least one Jacuzzi for the three hotels. I guess I am spoiled: every resort (and many smaller hotels) that I visited in the US had Jacuzzi. I went to search for Jacuzzi the first evening after arrival to The Royal hotels and found none.

Family Vacation 2012

This was an average hotel for the price. It is dated but has a nice beachfront location but so do many other properties in Cancun. Restaurant offerings could be better. The restaurant staff was very good. The front desk staff, especially upon check-out was not so good. We were charged for pool towels that I know for a fact were in our unit. No, we didn't get to return them to the closed sport shop upon departure but they were in the villa and no credit has been given. The outdoor ceramics craft offering was terrible. Was supposed to be a nice side diversion for a lazy afternoon but the girl and guy operating it were extremely unwelcoming and rude. Needless to say, we skipped that offering at the hotel. We did not know that housekeeping does not clean on Sundays so that was a surprise. Perhaps we should have been told at check-in. Also, at check-in it would have been helpful to know that the front desk requires that all room keys be returned upon check out to the front desk. No, you can't just leave your keys in your villa and expect an easy check out. For some reason, those plastic cards are like gold and you will be reprimanded at check out if you do not present them. I settled for paying for them even though they were left IN our two villas. All of this does not amount to a 4 or 5 start experience. The staff at the activities desk are great, I presume they are not employed by The Royal Mayan. Additionally, at night is when employees decide to take carts up and down the outdoor aisle ways and the noise is really distracting. Any outside noise can and will be heard inside of the villas. On our 5th night there were children running around until 1 am screaming and playing what I think was hide and seek throughout the property. No one stopped them, they were on our ground floor patio at times. This is a mediocre property. We will return to Cancun but we will stay elsewhere.

Worth the Beach

My wife and I stayed during week 51, Christmas. We had the time share pitch for about an hour over two days for another resort on the Riviera Maya and declined. They did not hassle us any longer. We were fortunate enough to get an ocean view room. What a place to people watch with the talapas and volleyball court directly beneath our balcony. What a sunrise!!! The resort is very clean and the staff knows enough english to communicate. Everybody was very friendly and would do anything you asked. We spent almost every day on the beach, one day out shopping. We have been vacationing on Christmas/New Years for the past 10 years and this is the best place I have every stayed at, even better than a Sandals. You can cook your own food in your room and not have to deal with buffets. They do have buffets, but they have a nice grocery store, "The Market", that is well equipped with any food or household item you need. They had good American TV stations to watch although the air conditioning discharged over the living area creating a draft. We just moved the louvers on the vent. I would definitely stay at this resort again, even if it is not an ocean view. All the rooms look out over the pool or ocean so all the views are great. During our Time Share presentation they indicated that this resort is going to be sold so I'm not sure it will be a Royal Resort much longer. I will look up the new owners.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

The resort is right on the beach and the main road. Hop on the bus, it costs 8 pesos one way which is about $0.67 and take it to the Hard Rock Cafe and do some shopping around the area. Bring some Mexican money. You can barter with the owner of the shop and get a good price on a souvenir if you can do the math.
