Great Beach

Compared to other resorts I've stayed at in Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta, this resort had the best beach by far. It was clean, white sand and no rocks to worry about stepping on in the swimming area. We also had the absolute best server on the beach named Amilcar who always brought our drinks to us with a smile and a joke. When staying at the Palace you can enjoy the Riu Cancun resort as well which has a little better snack bar during the afternoon and a bigger buffet at night. We didn't play at the pool bar at Palace but did hang out for awhile at the Cancun pool bar...we mostly stayed at the beach. The only unpleasant thing I was hoping would be different at Palace was the quality of the drinks - more specifically the mixers. Maybe most all-inclusives carry only cheap mixes and juices, but was hoping that spending a little more money this year would be different but guess not. Stick with the frozen drinks like Miami Vices and Bahama Mamas if you like those. The rooms were kept clean if you wanted housekeeping, and you got towel animals on those days which is always amusing. room service left a lot to be desired as well..not many choices and the food was cold. Cold, congealed nachos are not very good, even when you are drunk :) The reservation restaurants were fabulous though, especially Tio Pepe's and the Steakhouse. We didn't get to try Sakura as they were full every night and you were not allowed to book a place more than two days in advance which was disappointing. Overall though, very pleasant experience.

AMAZING!

My husband and I were impressed. We were treated like royalty. The food was to die for, the view was breath taking, and the service was outstanding. We were spoiled form the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left.

Grand old hotel

Riu Las Americas is a grand old hotel. Beautiful, classic architecture, well maintained and updated. Beach and pools were wonderful. Staff were helpful and very friendly. Wait staff would circulate on the beach and pool deck to take drink orders. The hotel also has a small spa and well-equipped exercise room. Food and drinks are included as an all-inclusive hotel. They have six different restaurants. Be sure to make reservations early in the day, in order to get the restaurant and time of your choice. There's always an amazing buffet with dozen and dozens of choices. I found the quality of the food varied quite a bit. Their lunch-time bbq was totally yummy and yet some of the dinners - even in the speciality restaurants were flat and bland. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to foodies. I loved this hotel for the beach and pool. I was a bit disappointed in the food. My room didn't have a balcony, yet I think that was my fault for not noticing when I made the reservation.

Fabulous Experience

10 day visit exceeded expectations. Staff is superb and goes out of their way to please. Nightly entertainment was very good. Food was excellent. My only suggestion is to get customers more involved in the spa by offering spa credits.

Hotel is great, but...

The hotel location, food and staff were great! However, the rooms need to be updated and there is an intense smell of cleaning agents throughout the lobby and rooms.
