Great Beach

Compared to other resorts I've stayed at in Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta, this resort had the best beach by far. It was clean, white sand and no rocks to worry about stepping on in the swimming area. We also had the absolute best server on the beach named Amilcar who always brought our drinks to us with a smile and a joke. When staying at the Palace you can enjoy the Riu Cancun resort as well which has a little better snack bar during the afternoon and a bigger buffet at night. We didn't play at the pool bar at Palace but did hang out for awhile at the Cancun pool bar...we mostly stayed at the beach. The only unpleasant thing I was hoping would be different at Palace was the quality of the drinks - more specifically the mixers. Maybe most all-inclusives carry only cheap mixes and juices, but was hoping that spending a little more money this year would be different but guess not. Stick with the frozen drinks like Miami Vices and Bahama Mamas if you like those. The rooms were kept clean if you wanted housekeeping, and you got towel animals on those days which is always amusing. room service left a lot to be desired as well..not many choices and the food was cold. Cold, congealed nachos are not very good, even when you are drunk :) The reservation restaurants were fabulous though, especially Tio Pepe's and the Steakhouse. We didn't get to try Sakura as they were full every night and you were not allowed to book a place more than two days in advance which was disappointing. Overall though, very pleasant experience.

Excellent

We stayed at the Riu Palace Las Americas August 6-11(2014).. it was a fantastic experience. The resort is very clean and well kept. The staff is so friendly and literally wait on you hand and foot. The food at the buffett is amazing, by far the best buffett I have been to yet. Many choices of food and very fresh. If going to Cancun. RIU is the way to go! And you get to use the amenities at the other Riu sister hotels.

Great Location, more adult focused

Enjoyed the stay .... our party included my two mid twenties daughters who had a great time. Food choices good, multiple pools catering to all ages. Hotel, I believe, will shortly undergo an upgrade similar to the Riu hotel next door which re-opened on August 2nd.

General Buffet option very good, lots of choice and various theme nights. Booking for specific restaurants was easy, differential in food/service may not be worth the limited seating time options.

Ok experience

The hotel was centrally located, with an amazing view of the beach. Unfortunately the hotel was outdated, the bed was not comfortable, sheets were rough, and the comforter was noticeably worn out. The staff was great, the buffet restaurants and specialty restaurants were good, but the 24hr room service menu was very limited. The pools were very nice. The overall experience was average.

Nice view with construction noise

We had a great time in Cancun the only down fall was the construction going on next door to our room. We got a beatiful ocean view but the noise was really annoying we had to keep our door closed most of the time during the day..
