Disappointed in Ramada
Cancun, Mexico

Not so hot

The location of the Ramada was great--close to transportation, good food and a welcoming area. The hotel has adopted a rather unique decor. It's very white, plastic, European and minimalistic. The concern there is just one of preference. From there though, the experience itself was less than satisfactory. The front desk guy was less than personable; from check-in, to touch-points afterwards. Our primary concern was that we found the sheets to be stained on the first bed. We decided to sleep on the second bed and not address the issue. The other bed's blanket below the comforter (the only other cover besides the sheet) was stained with six or seven palm-sized yellow marks. Addressing this concern with the desk guy was again less than ideal. Never mean, but it left us feeling we'd caused him troubles rather than him acknowledging and owning the issue. Other concerns: two of the four lamps in the room had blown out bulbs. The hallways are way too loud--everything echoes and we were kept up by people until 1am. There's a club near by that played loud music until 2am each night. Mud was smeared on the walls and floors around the elevators for the two days we were there. Our housekeeping lady who resolved the stained bed coverings was kind, but it's obvious cleanliness needs to be further addressed.

Ramada in name alone

I was pleased to have found a ramada in the location that i needed, and at a great price. However, - the bed was really uncomfortable -the room had so much wasted space - the safety deposit box was free to use, but the key cost $15 to rent?! -the bathroom was cramped -half the staff looked like they hated guests, the other half were excited to help

Slightly decieving ad - but ok

For those traveling to Cancun for the first time, this was not the most ideal location to stay in. It is not on the HOTEL ZONE, which is where most foreigners stay and where most of the beaches, shopping, and activity is. Instead, this hotel is located in downtown Cancun away from the hustle of the main streets in a less active area surronded by hostels. It is a nice hotel and once we realized that we could walk around without being worried for our safety, we did enjoy the authentic resturants, nice open parks where most of the natives gather, and close proximity to the bus station which is how we got back and forth from this hotel to the HOTEL ZONE (bus is $2, while a taxi costs $10 to get back and forth-so if your not comfortable using public transit-again, prob not a good location for you). The hotel itself is fine (our room was spacious, clean, and faced the street), the food is decent in the downstairs resturant (prices are a bit high), and the staff was helpful in getting us a deal on a boat tour. Overall, we would visit Cancun again, but likely would want to stay closer to the beach. There is NO SHUTTLE TO THE AIRPORT (so you will end up paying to get back and forth), and the shuttle to the beach leaves only in the morning (so again you are going to have to find a way to get around, unless you can corrdinate your schedule with theirs. Hope this helps!!!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Take the tour to Isla Las Mujeras (Island of Women -On the Lupita ship) which the front desk set up for us. We got to go snorkling, shopping on the island, have a mexican buffet, and ride along the coast, with drinks included for $50/person. WEll WORTH IT!!

Good place to sleep and relax

This hotel was a fine place to stay. There are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. The rooms have been recently redone with a modern design theme, which I appreciated. The breakfast buffet is far better than room service breakfast. We didn't get a chance to try any of the other meal buffets, but would. I'm not sure where the best beaches are in relation to this hotel. We rented a car, so were off on day trips during our stay and didn't stay around Cancun much. It was a nice place to stay and relax after an action filled day. The nightclub area is a short taxi ride away if that is what draws you to Cancun. The airport is nearby as well.

Cancun Stay

Hotel was clean and in a great location downtown close to the shopping centers. Bathroom was a tight squeeze but sufficient for a quick nights stay. Price was right as well for my need.

Passing through

I spent the night here with a friend and was not overly impressed. The hotel was nice enough, clean, and breakfast downstairs was good. The biggest problem was the noise and the smells. The hotel was extremely noisy. Everything echoed. It sounded like people were having converstaions inside your room instead of in the hallway. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool, but it's right by the trash dump and it made the experience less than desireable.
