Riu Peninsula

The view from our 16th floor room was extraordinaire, The room is nice, just personaly don't like the angular furniture, sort of 70's retro and gray colors in all the room, make it a little depressing in spite of the purple contrast. The service of some of the staff members at the lobby wasn't good, but some others were great. They need more management to ensure everybody has the right attitude. I've went to visit the property Palace Las Americas, 3km (2miles from there and the staff attitude was superb. The pools are very nice, with exception of the yellow bar (wet bar) ,which looks disgustingly yellow from the upper rooms. I guess some people like to bath in that broth. The food was very good, but not as good as in other Rius. The worst part here is that in order to make a reservation for a speciality restaurant you have to book it 2 days in advance, while in other RIUs is one day in advance and in other hotels chains, if they have room, you can make it the same day. Still the hotel and the view is great, the night shows were pretty bad compared to other Rius in Playa del Carmen, Jamaica, etc. But next time in Cancun I will staty in the Riu Palace Las Americas, way better, this looks like a colonial English plantation building. Last thing, the parking lot is pretty small for the size of the building.

If your prefer to dine outside, there are very good restaurants 3Km away, like Puerto Madero (steak house); Lorenzillo's (lobster house) pricey but nice; and also nigth life is nearby.

If you want to be waited on constantly for your whole vacation come here!!! Never lifted a finger!! Pool waiters Diego, Jorge, and Bernardo where the best and always funny and smiling!! Never expected anything in return but you want to tip these guys because they are so awesome!! Loved all the food and buffets. Bars where all awesome and most nights the shows were great!! Bars do not have red bull but all top shelf liquors they do have!! We never felt like we needed to go anywhere else for fun unless you just wanted to explore. They were always always cleaning everywhere and the pools!! Get a massage it was great!! Can't wait to go back!!!! April has the best weather!!

Great Time in Cancun

Riu Peninsula is a great place to go without kids, great food and restaurants, worth the money but they should do a better job with cleaning the rooms.

I thought this hotel will be located right next door to Riu Las Americas, it was a 5min bus ride which was close but not right next door to the hotel. Don't take a cab around Cancun, just walk across the street and take the R1 or R2 to the center of the city, only $1 per person.

Great Holiday

Stayed at Riu Palace Peninsula for 6 days. Myself, My Wife and My Mother-in-Law had a lovely experience. Food was good, resort was very clean and comfortable, and staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. None of us got sick! We brushed our teeth with bottled water and limited ourselves on the frozen drinks. Keep in mind, the frozen drinks at the pool bar tasted better than the frozen drinks in the lobby bar. We ate at most of the speciality restaurants and all were delightful. I'm a bit of a picky eater and was able to find something to eat at all times and enjoyed all. We had no issues making reservations. We just made our reservations first thing every morning. The beach area was very pleasant. Ample loungers for all and if you so happen to not get an umbrella, all you have to do is ask a hotel staff member and they will bring one to you immediately. Vendors walked up and down the shore offering goods/souvenirs to be bought and were not pushy at all. All were willing to bargain (offer the US dollar). Nightly entertainment was also very enjoyable. Elvis impersonator was great as well as all other performers who perfromed during the week. We had a lovely experience and would DEFINETLY return.

Great trip!

Hotel was amazing, we got upgraded for free to a VIP suite. Weather was great - sunny and 85 every day. Food was amazing. Nice gym, small but everything you needed. Beach is a little rocky but it is still beautiful and the multiple pool options, beautiful grounds and attentive staff more than make up for it. Look for Nery at the coffee bar, David at the beach bar and Cruz at the beach, all great!!!

Take the bus for $1 US per person to visit the Riu Las Americas only a 5 minute trip down the strip. You can use all their amenities and they have a larger beach.

Good until we all got food poisoning....

The week started out great but there were a few minor hiccups - restaurant reservations were difficult to make and the desk to do so was always busy (you had to wait in line). The drink selection is vast but all the drinks are made with syrups/mixes and were a little odd tasting (ie Don't expect your strawberry daquiri to taste like strawberries...). The major issue we had was getting really, really sick. There were 3 couples on this trip and all 6 people got sick. Only 3 of us had projectile vomiting but everyone had horrific bathroom issues. We all only drank bottled water and even brushed our teeth with bottled water. We spoke with several other people who stayed there during the same time and they had sick family and/or friends also. Hopefully they just have some kinks to work out in the kitchen/ water filtration systems. If you decide to stay here, I would highly advise packing anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications.

Great Stay

Stayed April 7-13, weather was perfect! The grounds are great and $1 bus ride to all major clubs for those who like to party! Food was good, a lot of variety buffet or sit down. The room takes a little to get use to with tub in middle of floor. We had to contact front desk to have room cleaned since room was't done when we came up from a day of activities at 4pm. Staff was always checking in with us for drinks or walking in hall, etc. I would recommend for couples

Fabulous. Can't wait to go back!

We went with another friend couple for a week. We all enjoyed the hotel and staff and can't wait to go again. The fridge in our room was always stocked. Our room was always clean and even had towel animals and rose petals. The view is breath taking. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable and were the friendliest I have ever met. The gym is nice and the spa is great. Easy layout to get around the grounds and dining areas. The only bad thing I can say is that we could hear people out in the hall ways coming and going all hours of the night. But it was spring break so we weren't suprised. We stayed May 31- April 7. I would recommend the Riu palace Peninsula to anyone. It was an amazing all inclusive experience!

I Don't recommend the ATV excursion. We paid way too much and it was not fun and not as long as we were told it would be. We weren't even offered water or a snack. Do not book an excursion with Manuel. He charged us way more that other people on our bus and was a not nice about it when we confronted him. There are different representatives down by the sports bar that you can book activities with. Don't use Manuel. We also booked with 'Best Day' and they were great and on time and trustworthy.
