Not a 5 star resort
This hotel should be rated as a 1 star!!!! Beware of unsafe food handling. Had severe food poisoning for 3 days and finally witnessed why......They use the same tongs to cook the raw meat and then serve the guests the cooked meat with the contaminated tongs. I wonder what they do behind the scenes to prep their food if the Chef at the cook stations do this right in front of guests.Totally unsafe food practices. I would highly recommend to beware of food at this resort, especially if travelling with young children and the elderly, this could cause extreme food poisoning. To top it all off, complained to the VP of hotel and he did not apologize or have any sympathy. Management has no customer service skills what so ever. After talking to several other guests at hotel I realized about 10 others had food poisoning symptoms. I'm sorry but after spending so much money to stay at a 5-star resort and then getting sick and seeing why I was totally disgusted. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone....spend your money else where.

Amazing!!
I went with friends for a week long vacation, and we could not have asked for more. The staff was very attentive, the hotel was beautiful, the food was delicious, and there was always something to do. I would definitely go back and would recommend this resort to anyone!!

Good stay
Our stay was very good., Enjoyed the food and amenities of this hotel. Room was clean but had a little odor. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beach is the only minus point here

Beautiful long weekend getaway
We have stayed at other RIU's. This location tops them all, though. We love everything about RIU, from the service, to the amenities, to the layout of the resorts themselves. This palace was just beautiful and totally kept with our reason for liking RIU's so much. We honestly can not say a bad thing about it. The resort is just beautiful, the staff were amazing, the food was delicious, the location was perfect, the rooms were very nice. I could go on and on but will sum it up by saying we love this resort. The only negative was that our visit was not long enough.

A vacation to remember
Everything was clean and beautiful! The staff were friendly & hardworking. We were even impressed with our Hotel Concierge that helped us book excursions. We tried three of the specialty restaurants (Kabuki, Las Islas Mujeres, & Krystal) and they were all delicious & gourmet dining experiences. We told them ahead of time that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and at the first restaurant they decorated our table and brought us a chocolate cake that said happy anniversary on the plate, so that was really thoughtful that they acknowledged it! I think my only complaint would be working on quality of food over quantity when it comes to the buffet. There were countless options, but nothing I ate at the buffet was spectacular and the chips were always stale. Other than that it was an unforgettable vacation and we can't wait to go back. We spent the extra money for an ocean view room with a Jacuzzi and I felt like it was money well spent because the view was breathtaking, we were able to watch sunrise & sunset, and it was so neat to be able to enjoy the view while in our own private Jacuzzi! There are endless things to do at the hotel and we also went to Las Islas Mujeres, Tulum, and Tankah and all 3 were great! Lastly, I checked out the spa on our last day and that was amazing. I did the after sun treatment since I got way too sunburned and it was so relaxing and healing to my sunburn. Lastly, I know that tips/gratuity is included, but bring cash/pesos to tip with in addition and your great service will become exceptional. Overall I would recommend this hotel to our friends and hope to come back soon!

Short walk from hotel
We also figured out how to use the bus (it's only 8.50 pesos or $1 USD) and that saved a lot of money on Taxis and let us explore the hotel zone. As long as you are staying on the street the hotel is on you can ride any bus route you want. Just be ready to pay when they pull up and sit down towards the back of the bus where you will exit...they are quick to stop and go, so you have to be attentive! When you pass what you want, just hit the button and get off at the next stop...it's easier than trying to communicate with the driver and they usually don't want to help you get where you want to go. The bus stop both ways is a very short walk from the hotel.

RIU We Love You!
I never do hotel reviews, but I promise you that this one is worth the time. RIU! We love you! My honey and I are two young professionals living in the busy city of Chicago. We needed a weekend getaway quick! As soon as we arrived at RIU we knew that we were in absolute paradise. Seriously, I thought I was in heaven. The grounds are gorgeous, the facility is brand new, the drinks are free flowing and awesome, the salon gets two thumbs up, the food was great, and the staff is warm and courteous. We had a lot of options when visiting Cancun, I am so glad that we chose RIU. RIU is now our official hotel for Cancun; and based on our experience we will definitely be back. Upgrade to a Villa if you can....you'll have your own private hot tub, great views, your own bar and pool, and an awesome VIP restaurant. SMOOCHES RIU! Hope to see you soon!

Perfect Place!!
It was our first time in cancun and we couldn't have picked a better place.. the staff are amazing.. i've never seen such hard working ppl.. the customer service there was fantastic.. the room was amazing.. was always clean when we got back.. they even left us some doves made ouf of towels.. the pools are great.. beach is a litle rocky but we didnt go in much.. the food was good.. overall an amazing place and we will be back..
