Dissatisfaction

About 70 percent of the seats around the pool had no umbrella and we had to stay burning under the hot sun. From lobby to ocean we had to go about 50 steps which was very inconvenient. Many areas ( even in the pool) was made out of very rough material that badly hurt our toes . To go to gym and come back we had to go about 150 steps so it was impossible to use it. Main Resturant was really dirty ( floor and seats and food). Their hospitality was short as compare to other hotels. One of the Resturant had a charge of $ 25 per person which was not to that standard and also hotel is supposed to be all inclusive. The management tried to compensate our dissatisfaction by changing the room and waving the $ 25 charge of the Resturant . The room service forgot to put water for us and when we called they said there is a $ 5 charge for bringing a bottle of water. We had to call for towel, shampo, coffee ,.. That room service always forgot to put for us and many more that I don't get into that. We will never back to that hotel. We were happy with kids club. Thanks to Otbits that after our complain they spend time and talk to manager and changed our room to a better quality.

Good value, awesome service

Hotel is a little older, and was totally full, but the beech is fantastic, the service is so friendly, and food and drinks are plentiful. Overall good value. We were upgraded to a villa because they did not have adjoining rooms for us, which was incredible. So I can't complain, but our tub wouldn't drain, then the shower wouldn't work, but it was fixed the next day. Something was leaking by the sinks in the same bathroom, and we stepped in water a lot. Small inconveniences.

Omni Resort All-inclusive

The resort is very good. Staff is also very nice. But watch out for that time-share offer where it is easy to get trapped and get free tickets to Isla Muharis island and Chichen Itza (One of the 7 wonders of the world). When you buy/get the Activity tickets from the resort people, make sure that you have guided tour in English as we really had bad experience with all of the spanish speaking people on tour. Tour Guide explained very few things (5%) in english and rest it was in Spanish language. I would press for deluxe tour (It costs little more money) for Chichen Itza since it is one of the best place to visit. With deluxe tour you are assured to get the Guided tour in English as it is the mix of people in that tour. For Isla Muharis, always choose the Dancer Cruise. It is the best experience to do the Isla Muharis island activity through Dancer cruise. Restaurants in OMNI are good too. I would appreciate if they can little bit change their manu for few days. This is because at some point you feel that you are having the same varities on several days of your trip. Best weather is July.

Great Quick Getaway Spot!

Check-in was quick, and they upgraded us to an Ocean View Room. Room was beautiful, but beds were smaller than anticipated. Wished it could have been 2 Queen beds rather than 2 Double beds for a bit more room and comfort. Service and food was wonderful, and waiters were very attentive. Although it states tips are in included in the "all inclusive", they all expect a tip which makes for an awkward experience, especially at the bar when you don't have any cash on you.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Jungle Tour with Snorkeling. The tour starts at AquaTour located across the street from the hotel. You get to drive a speed boat for 2, and drive to the snorkeling area where you snorkel for 45mins. The total tour is about 2.5 hours long and it's a fun and great experience! You can reserve via the in-house sightseeing office. **Also, to goto downtown Cancun for souvenir shopping or to the popular SeƱor Frog's, take any bus from the bus stop (9.50 pesos or $1 each way). It's the cheapest and most convenient way to get around. The bus takes you up and down the Hotel Zone and various malls are on the same route! Tip: when you shop at the local vendors, have an idea of what you want and how much you're willing to pay. It becomes VERY overwhelming when the locals hound you to buy from their stores and they're throwing numbers at you! *They all accept dollars and pesos

Definitely NOT a 4 star resort

Hotel is much older and smaller than it looks in pictures. Food in buffet was only good one night. Breakfast is ok. Italian restaurant was good. Activities are poor.. No water activities. Weak pool entertainment and absolutely nothing for teens or young adults to do. I travel a lot and this is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. I like four and five star hotels and this was rated four star. It is barely a three. The wait staff and housekeepers were great. All other staff was unfriendly and not very helpful. Very boring. I was there with my family, 12 of us ranging in age from q year to 58. Most of the group in their twenties or thirties and the 6 year old is the only one that had fun at the hotel. Leaving the property we found a lot of great things to do. Everyone wanted to eat out at restaurants off site because the food was so bad at the buffet. Sushi bar was good. You can stay at nicer and bigger resorts with a lot more do do for the same or less money. Would not recommend or stay here again.

Average, but expected

Cancun is a giant tourist trap, it's literally a giant loop of hotels that all cater to the "all inclusive"/resort crowd. I've been to other parts of Mexico but didn't realize that Cancun would be so devoid of anything other than sitting at the pool drinking watered down drinks and eating terrible free food. This isn't a knock specifically on Omni but rather how all of the resort hotels are in the area. I was with a group of about 20-30 ppl and the consensus was unanimous that the food/drinks were terrible and it got pretty boring hanging out in the resort compound the entire trip. (Cab rides to get anywhere outside of the strip of hotels run you a minimum of $15-20 US each direction, FYI).
