Hotel Sotavento and Yacht Club

This hotel is off the beatn path, very quiet. The grounds are beautiful, it sits on the lagoon. Close to almost everything, Its a little walk to the beach accross the street. The staff is excellant always willing to please. The rooms are clean, a little on the musty side even with the air coonditioning on, could be due to the age of the building. Food in the restaurant off the menu was exccellant. If you are looking for value and not the life of the rich and famous this is the place to stay.

I read a lot of bad reviews about this hotel and honestly it has improved a lot and deserves better. If you are looking for something simple but comfortable, clean and calm, the Sotavento is a great place to stay. Definitely not for party animals or kids. Our room even had a flat screen TV, free wifi and dark curtains for those who don't like to get up with the sun (like me!). Breakfast (6:30 to 10am) is included: very decent and different every day. The staff is great. The restaurant offers awesome food at a very reasonable price. The pool is very clean. All together it's a great deal. The only things to improve are to put bugs screens on the windows and to have quieter airco.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel because of: - Location (Mid way from downtown and Hotel Zone) - Topical trees inside the hotel and a Lagoon on the back side (used to store yacht boats) made me feel like I am closer to nature - Good amenities like free continental breakfast that was different every day, wireless internet connection in the restaurant, lobby & room and safety deposit box. - Nice swimming pool - Beautiful view in the back of the hotel and lots of shade in the open areas of the hotel from the trees A few mins walk would get you to the convenience stores and the main road where you can get a bus.

I love this place. Found it a couple years back after they remodeled and have gone back every year for a long weekend. Right across the street from the Isla Mujeres ferry dock. Small, quaint and very quiet. Nice little pool, not a lot of sun though, but that's ok for those days you just want to relax by the pool in the shade. Staff is great, friendly, and warm. Food is good in their little restaurant. Best of all, the price is right. Rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable.

The pros: Good location: near the beach, public transportation and the ferry to Isla Mujeres. Downtown Cancun is only a few minutes from the hotel. Plaza Isla, which is a Mall with a variety of restaurants and stores is only ten to fifteen minutes in bus. The hotel personnel is very professional and they are very corteous. The foood is good and is not expensive (well depends on the dish). Hotel room has the basics: Two beds, a desk with a TV. There are about 60 working channels, and quality is ok. The room has a big clear window. The restroom has basic supplies. The cons: The room smelled like something wet and the odor got on my clothes. One of the beds had a dirty blanket, which the cleanning personnel didn't want to take care of, or didn't notice. Most of the times I had to flush the toilet more than once to make it work. Mirror in the desk had a huge stripe just above the middle, which I think was paint. On the last day I got a white towel that had a yellow mark.

I did not expect much as it was only $49. The rooms are built with white cinderblocks and do not have the most comfortable beds. I am an avid camper and understand the size of insects in the tropics but the large roach on the toilet paper was not at all welcomed. The rooms smelled moldy and the lights flickered. The breakfast was decent however. We did not get to the pool but it did look ok. I would recommend sleeping at the airport versus a layover at Sotavento.

Needs comfortable beds, alarm clocks , local phone calls and fix the leaking sinks.

The staff at the hotel were extremely nice and welcoming! The greenry made you feel like you were in the jungle! This hotel is a basic hotel, you get what you pay for!

Hotel was acceptable.. Didn't spend much time there. Just shower, sleep and out and about...ENJOYING CANCUN...

We booked this hotel as a stop over place before going to our time share. It was a very quiet and peaceful hotel. The service was ok. The staff were ok. The only problem that we did have was the [...]listing stated that they have airport transfers. This was not true. [...] This was the main reason why we picked this hotel.Otherwise everything else was just as described and it was cool place to stay. It is priced well and an easy bus ride to timeshare hotel and downtown. If you are wondering if you should stay her as well for a stop over....I say "yes, it was well worth it."
