Won't return

When with husband and two toddlers. Dissapointed overall at the location. The hotel looks bigger online and you can't visit the other Solaris hotels. The food was not great, menu did not change much even tough it was different teme nights. Only buffet open for breakfast and lunch. For dinner only restaurant that requires reservation and buffett. The games by the pool were not appropriate for families. The beach is not good for little kids waves are too strong. Not good for swimming or adults either. I would be at pool by 9 a.m and all chairs already reserved at pool and beach but nobody their. Stay somewhere else!

The room was alright nothing fantastic but was cozy. The bed was hard as a rock hard though. The pool and view were beautiful. Marco Polo restaurant was excellent but the rest of the food left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Overall though I will recommend it to my friends and family

Not a 4 star hotel but maybe 3 1/2

The hotel looks better in the pictures than in reality. Outside looks average, pool is small and kids pool is very small with limited activities. The landscape is average and the most annoying thing was the birds all over getting into people's food. Some of the exterior needs to be cleaned up and updated. The interior overall is nice but rooms need some updates. Bath towels are very dried and hard and beds are very firm. Food is OK only one restaurant (reservations required) and 2 buffet types. No free internet is annoying and check out process is lengthy. Some things are not communicated upfront and then there is a game of questions and answers. We stayed with a 5 year old and she was bored after 3 day and asked to go back home. At times it was hard to communicate with staff. Shows were fantastic in a ball room type setting. Generally we don’t like to go back to the same place twice and I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Quick weekend getaway

Had a great experience here. Went away for a long weekend for my birthday. Staff was excellent. Food and drinks were what is expected at an All-Inclusive resort. Had a great time by the pool. Would definitely go back.

Great value. Great location.

This was my first trip to Cancun, and I basically just wanted to relax by the pool, on the beach, and see Chichen Itza. Mission accomplished! The staff was very friendly and mostly on the spot when you needed anything. I had a lagoon view room with whirlpool tub on the balcony. The view and sunsets were lovely, though I only used the tub once, so I wouldn't get one again. Everything was very clean and the room was large and comfortable, except that the bed was too hard for me. I called the desk after the first night and they sent up a mattress pad which made sleeping much better. The food at the buffet restaurants was very good and there was a large selection. As others have noted, the Marco Polo is the only non-buffet restaurant, and you need to get to it early (8AM) to get a reservation. We dined there twice, Mediterranean and Oriental nights. To me, both were disappointing and not worth the effort to get the reservation, though my wife enjoyed the Mediterranean food. I'd stick with the buffets. Best buffet choices: any fruits (all fresh and delicious), the breakfast omelets bar (grab ingredients off the buffets and don't limit yourself to what's by the station), bacon wrapped scallops, the tacos with the meat carved from rotating roast. I'm not a big drinker, but I had several varieties of Margarita and all were quite tasty though not very strong. The pool area and beach were all clean and comfortable. Go down early (by 8AM) and reserve chairs with your towels if you want to get ones with umbrellas or any shade. You can always move to a full sun chair periodically, get you fill of rays, and come back to your shaded chair. Make sure to bring plenty of sunblock since a small tube at the hotel store is $20. I didn't go with plans to do much touristy stuff. Chichen Itza is a long all day trip, but the site is worth seeing. We took the deluxe trip with drinks on the bus, a stop at Valladoid for lunch, and a stop at a cenote. Chichen Itza - excellent; Valladoid lunch and short siteseeing - OK; cenote - interesting just to see it. Note that it will be hot, so go prepared. We also went to Market 28 downtown. Take the R-2 bus for less that a dollar. and walked to El Rey Ruins about 5 minutes from the hotel. Get a tour from Sergey, an 81 year old man who really knows the place. He really talks a lot, so you kind of have to get him to move on. You'll see a lot of iguanas at the site.

El Rey Ruins. Admission about $4. Five minute walk from the hotel. No vendors trying to sell your stuff. You can walk through it in peace or get a tour guide. Lots of iguanas.

Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary

G R Solaris made our Anniversary very special and memorable. Had a great time meeting great people for Canada and PA. Enjoyed the entertainment from the pool into the evening with the shows. Food was okay-good selection. Best night was the grill night by the pool, food was wonderful. Roberto at towel stand, Carlos pool side resteraunt, and Miguel at pool bar where fabulous..thank you to help us feel at home. Draw backs where water downed drinks, only one choice of beer, beds where hard, and rooms where not cleaned till late in the day. Pool side music was from a boom box with microphone and speakers need to be updated..maybe a better selection of music as well. Same songs everyday over and over again.

Watch the locals

DONT USE YELLOW TAXI at airport you will be ripped off. We bought round trip to and from hotel and they wouldnt come pick us up. Said they had no taxis on road now. Said they would refund part of money LOL.. Good luck getting to them at airport. The staff at GR are the best. Food was good and plenty of it. Would like to see pool bars stay open past 5pm. Shows were great. Very good deal for the money. And no we didnt get sick from the water there. The four of us used it for a week. Will go back. Carful of the locals when you buy something, you never get what they promis.

Great Location

The GR Solaris is a great property for families and couples. Activities are well- scheduled throughout the day, the evening entertainment shows are top notch and the food buffets offer a wide selection for everyone. The best part of the buffet was always the wonderful ice cream. The wine and beer selection is limited and could be improved. We enjoyed the smaller size of this resort and the beach is great, but not a good spot for swimming due to the rough waves. We highly recommend this resort for the value and location.
