Cabo San Lucas hotel tempts active travelers, spa goers
Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa sits on prime real estate: a private beach within strolling distance of Land's End. The hacienda-style property lures with 260 rooms and suites boasting ocean views and traditional furniture, plus kitchens or kitchenettes.  The resort bustles with activity, sporting three pools, 11 restaurants and bars, and a spa whose signature is seaweed-based services.
Highlights
  • Private beachside resort a few steps from Land's End
  • Kids eat and stay free with parents
  • Kids club with supervised activities
  • Full-service spa and fitness center
  • Multiple restaurants and swim-up bar
Rooms
Traditional decor -- heavy woods, gilded frames -- bring an old-world feel to the 260 rooms and suites at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa. Landscape portraits, marble floors, archways and pillars further the drama. For groups, space is not an issue, thanks to multiple layouts that feature kitchens or kitchenettes with utensils included and separate living areas. Private, furnished balconies beckon with views of the sparkling Pacific.
Dining
Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa covers global tastes at 11 restaurants and bars. Patrons might start at the breakfast buffet at patio-equipped Calima, then grab authentic Mexican fare and smooth tequilas at Hacienda El Coyote and finish with wood-fired pizza at Italian Restaurant Romeo Y Julieta. Ambiance plays a big part in dining and cocktail drinking here -- even from the lobby sports bar, where patrons watch UFC fights on Saturday nights.
Recreation

Guests might be in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, but at Thalassotherapy Spa, the inspiration comes from France. Using seaweed- and sea-water-based treatments developed by the French in the 19th century, the spa takes advantage of its unique position on the Sea of Cortez to pamper guests from head to toe. Perfecting the bliss are seaside cabanas where visitors can enjoy Repechage Hydra Refine Seaweed Facials and Stone Journey Therapeutic Massages.

For group time, visitors can swim in three pools (or wade up to the swim-up bar) or ask the hotel to arrange ATV tours, charter boats for sports fishing and many more excursions through Cabo. A kids club with supervised activities rewards parents with relaxation.

Great for a vacation, but rather stay at Grand Solmar next time

Nice resort for the price, but prefer all-inclusive, which they offer at a very high cost. Sister resort , Grand Solmar is a 5 minute shuttle ride away is much better. Better drinks/food and amenities. Wi-fi is in desperate need of improvement. $13/day and you can only really use it on your patio or poolside. Also an additional charge to use the fitness center.

Playa Grande is an absolute dream!

From the moment you walk in, the grandeur of Playa Grande speaks for itself. A beautiful lobby with helpful staff is the first thing you want to see. Secondly, the Playa Grande villas are beautiful and functional, each with a great view of either the pool or the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are spacious and have a functional kitchen with stove, microwave, spacious fridge and even a blender. The room also comes with an iron, a blow dryer and those magnifying mirrors I adore. The bed is unbelievably comfy and the A/C works beautifully. Hands down, the best part of Playa Grande is the incredible pool areas. At the time we went, they were renovating the "adults-only pool" and I don't even feel like we missed out because the other 3 pools and jacuzzi were more than enough. Especially the pool with the swim-up bar, we were frequent visitors there. Don't even get me started on the 2 for 1 happy hour or fish tacos, it is basically heaven on earth. Lastly, the views of the Pacific ocean are so beautiful and it's RIGHT there. Sure you can't swim in it, but it makes for a beautiful sunset and it doesn't hurt to sink your toes into the warm Mexican sand. The only downside at the resort is that wi-fi was spotty in some areas but it was easy to find out where it was strongest (the lobby, by the pool). For $14 a day, I wish it were just a little bit better in building F. Also, cabs were rather expensive too and from Playa Grande (as they are ALL over Cabo) but walking is a possibility, but difficult with the high 90s heat in August with the hilly entrance into the resort. Just a thought. We did taxis more often than not. But overall, I would book there again and again and again!

quick get away

This is a very nice hotel. Room was large, clean and comfortable. The front desk said we had an ocean view and it turned out we had a pool view. It can get a little loud and crazy so if your looking for a quite relaxing trip by the pool this may not be the place for you or ask for a room far away from the pool. Also if it's the rainy season and your afraid of bugs (as I am) make sure you get a room off the bottom floor. We had a few unwanted guests come under the door during the heavy rains. Overall though this was a nice hotel and everyone was really nice. They did ask us to join their timeshare but once we said no they didn't pressure us.

One of the best resorts in cabo

This place was great! Everyone was really friendly and the hotel was literally minutes from everywhere. Only down fall is you can not swim in the ocean, but the beach is a 5 minute cab ride away. I would stay here again.

Family vacation with adult children

We had a great time. The hotel is close enough to walk but with the humidity and heat (and the hill to get to the hotel) we often took a cab. It was $8 to go any where in town. The hotel staff only asked you about looking at time shares when you first get there and then they don't bug you again. The staff was very helpful and all spoke English. We would stay again!

Go down to the waterfront and ask for Marisol. She will help you find the best deals and you can trust her. Tell her that Chad and Tracy sent you. She made our vacation so much better!

completely satisfied

Great service, excellent response to any questions or issues, hospitality was awesome, safe, and food was very good and portions were more than enough. We opted for all inclusive which worked out great since food and drinks were excellent. It did get a little too windy one day but they were quick to help by tying up umbrellas. Recreational activities were fun and they did not bother you to join in - simply asked in a nice manner. Overall, very nice! I'd definitely go back.

Awesome Friends and Family Fiesta

First time in Cabo traveling with family and friends who go often, and we will definitely be back! The Playa Grande was fantastic, the staff was amazing, the room was delightful (definitely recommend the suite), and the private beach with access to other areas was a major plus! We took advantage of the fiesta and were very pleased with the entertainment and involvement by the staff. Also a great location to get downtown and enjoy the local eating spots and watering holes.

A great Cabo hotel

Our stay was terrific. The hotel is well maintained; the public areas and guest rooms are decorated well. The staff is very attentive and pricing for food and drinks was fair. There were a large number of activities at the pools (volleyball, basic scuba lessons, aerobics, fun games, etc.) that were never bothersome and were entertaining. The beach that the hotel is on is unswimmable, but makes for a nice walk. This hotel has all the pluses of the large resorts along the corridor, plus has a great location that allows you to walk to many nightspots. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for young couples, families, or anyone else that wants to stay close to town in a very nice hotel.

Fantastic getaway

Our family spent a week at the resort. The grounds were beautifully maintained and manicured. We ate dinner at one of their "fiesta" themed parties and the food was delicious. Fun entertainment even for our teenagers. Sunday brunch on the beach was great! I was worried about not staying at Medano beach, but the beach setting was beautiful--not recommended for swimming. It was great to be away from the Medano crowds. Easy access to all beaches via water taxi. Easy walk to town and access to restaurants. Perfect location. Overall a great experience!

Great Location

Great hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the pools are great. Beach is nice, but you can't swim and the surf is so dangerous you can't even walk in the water. The location is great for walking to the marina or town restaurants, but the food at the resort is quite good as well. There is a little pressure to check out the timeshare plans, but it wasn't too crazy. The biggest negative is the internet! Horrible!!! Slower than dial-up!! If you are going for business or need to be connected then go elsewhere . . .
