Could be better, not really 5 star
Grand Hotel used to be the Hyatt, but due to the financial crisis four years ago, they decided not to pay franchise anymore. It's a big old hotel that probably used to be very exclusive in it's day, but it's not 5 star material anymore. Location is good, right at the end of the Costera, within walking distance of restaurants and shops The rooms are very spacious, however, they seriously need a do-over, as there are stains on the walls and rust on the hinges, which gives it away. We went during holy week, which is usually very busy in Acapulco and it was quite difficult finding a lounge chair by the pool the first day. Turns out people here in Mexico go down to the pool at 7 am, put their towels on the chair, and "save" their spot, even if no one is using the chair until four or five hours later, and you have to find somewhere else to sit, while all the chairs are empty but "taken". Strangely, that policy is condoned by the hotel, so, when in Rome..... The staff and reception area staff were lacking in service attitude, kind of indifferent, you almost felt like you were inconveniencing them by any request. Valet and pool staff weren't as bad, but hey, you need to have something that adds value! Every day I had to request towels from housekeeping because they wouldn't put them in my room or only a few, as well as the drinking water. It got annoying after a while. The key would also deactivate often and once I had to go down twice because they weren't programming it correctly. I was angry because on top of that, the guy at reception was kind of rude. I gave him a piece of my mind. The hotel is definitely not friendly for people with disabilities, since there are steps everywhere and no ramps. Steps to get to the lobby, steps to get to the pool, even little steps here and there which raise or lower the floor level. That's another thing that displays the age of the hotel and has not been corrected. I just thought of it as I trudged up and down the steps all day. Honestly, it's an ok hotel if you can get a good price, but I wouldn't pay 5 star prices, since it is definitely not 5 star quality.

We Keep Comin' Back
We love this hotel and keep returning every year. The staff is really great.... friendly and very helpful. Our only problem with the amenities is that there is nothing to do at night. They used to have a band at the bar but this year they were only there a few nights out of the 12 that we stayed.

lovely time in Acapulco
We had a lovely time at the Grand Hotel Acapulco. One little hitch -- the hotel was only 9% occupied one day so they decided to perform maintenance on the air conditioner which required shutting it off. It got a little uncomfortable but was back on by 8pm. Very convenient to everything and a great beach.

NICE Hotel & Grounds, BUT
Hotel, Grounds and Restaurant were excellent, but the checking in process late at night was a Nightmare. I reserved TWO Rooms for my wife & I and for another couple traveling with us. When the clerk only gave me a access key for ONE Room, I asked about the key for the second room and she tells me the reservation only had for one room and then starts to tell me that they can provide a LARGE Roll- Away Bed for in our room ?!?! I asked het to check if the 2nd room was possibly listed another our friends names and it was NOT? Fortunately I printed my document that [...]provides (Showed I paid for 2 rooms and had all of our names on it) and showed it to them - all of a sudden another room was available and then all was fine.

Nice getaway
The newly renovated rooms are very nice. Not as large as the older rooms were. The restaurants are fairly good and we had a good stay. Because of the danger in Acapulco right now, we only went to the Walmart across the street for water and didn't go anywhere else in Acapulco. We have been there many times so just enjoyed the hot weather and relaxed.

Grand hotel
the beach and pool areas are beautiful!!!Despite what you hear, the tourist areas in Acapulco are safe and the beach and bay are great places just to hang. For those who keep kosher(like me) during the winter there is a kosher resturant and a synagogue. The hotel is currently being renovated so the rooms vary.I should mention, weather is greata nd the price is much lower then the Caribean!!
