Heavenly couples retreat

This resort is beautiful! I went for 4 days with my boyfriend and we had an amazing time. Although I would warn that there is so much to do that it would be much better to go for an entire week. The customer service is unmatched. Waiters, cooks and other workers went out of their way to make sure that you had a drink while laying on the beach, to make sure your meal was just the way you wanted it and that you were as comfortable as possible. However this is definitely a more calm couples type of environment, so if you're with a group of singles looking for a lot of activity I wouldn't really choose the Jewel. But if you would like a relaxing scene by a gorgeous beach with occasional excursions to waterfalls and forests then this place is right for you.

Excellent getaway!!!

I couldn't find a lot to complain about the Jewel Dunns River Resort. The property was meticulous and the staff was excellent. It's not the biggest resort I've ever been to but that way fine with us. Everything is nice and close together, tough for you to not be able to find something. Food was good, drinks were good too. The pool staff and bartenders were probably the best at any all inclusive I've been to. Extremely friendly and always in a wonderful mood. Very appreciative every time we gave them a small to generous tip. Japanese restaurant was fun and that food was probably the best meal at the resort. Dominic was our chef both times and he was a pleasure. We laughed the whole time, very entertaining!!! We only did 5 nights which was actually perfect...just enough time. One great part of this resort was the fact you didn't have to wake up at 6am and claim your lounge chairs!!! Always open chairs no matter what time of day. Great trip overall!!

Couples Getaway

The staff was very kind and courteous, although the poolside servers were a little lacking. Room service is not included, bathroom was on the small side in the emerald lanai room we stayed it. The hotel is a bit far from montego bay airport as well. These are the only negatives and neither of them are major. Oh, and snorkeling was not included. Once again, not major, but would have been a nice. The positives are the hotel is beautiful, the staff is very neat and the grounds are kept very clean. We never had to get up real early to save a seat at the pool. The drinks seemed stronger than the last all inclusive we went to. The food was excellent with many options, although none of the desserts really thrilled us. Entertainment and was very good, and the staff worked very hard. There were also a lot of things to do on the resort as well. It was my birthday our anniversary the week we were there, and the staff surprised us with balloons on the door and a little dessert. Overall we had a great time, and would recommend this resort.

1st All Inclusive Experience

The Jewel Dunn's River was a perfect choice for our first all inclusive vacation experience. The staff at the resort were so friendly and helpful. The entertainment staff made a point of getting to know you. We especially enjoyed the Tuesday night Beach Party! Dinner was served on the beach followed by a show with a variety of local entertainment. The Jamaican bamboo dancers were our favorite! For excursions to venues in and around Ocho Rios, the Jewel is a perfect location. We were a 5-10 minute drive from the Dunn's River Falls, Mystic Mountain, Dolphin Cove, and the shopping area in Ocho Rios. We booked all of our excursions through Jamaica Tours Ltd. Maxwell was always our driver and he was fabulous at giving helpful hints and tips and about coming back to get us as we always missed our pick-up time. The beach at the resort is really small, but very well kept and secure. There was always a security guard roaming the area. The room was adequate and clean. We didn't go big on our room as we knew we wouldn't be in the room all that much. We did have a mini-fridge and a mini-bar that was restocked daily. I would definitely recommend the Jewel Dunn's River. This was our first time in Jamaica and our first time at an all inclusive and we were thrilled with our experience.

a great escape

Hotel and staff are excellent. The resort is extremely clean. Very easy to get around with out feeling liked you walked forever . The beach may not be massive but you never have a problem finding a chair no matter what time you get to the beach, The nicest part is that you are not harrassed with vendors all day walking the beach as they have security to keep them away . Makes it very relaxing. I would definately recommend this resort if you are looking for a peaceful getaway. Just remember it is not the 4-seasons so dont expect that

Unimpressive & bed bugs

From all the reviews and photos I expected the resort to be a lot nicer. My boyfriend and I were pretty underwhelmed when we arrived to the point of looking into booking another place for the remainder of our visit. We ended up deciding to stick it out and give it a chance. It did get better and grow on us but to honest a lot of things were not up to par. The food was terrible. The Italian restaurant was awful... but maybe that is what you get when you try to eat Italian food in Jamaica. I can't believe I'm saying this but the best place to eat was the cheesy buffet. The food served there was by far the best the resort had to offer. That and the pizza place was fine too. It wasn't all bad though. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. The pool was a fun, enthusiastic atmosphere during the day and there is always special entertainment at night. The room was actually pretty clean and updated for my standards. Usually this is the biggest test for me when traveling. I often feel uncomfortable in hotel rooms but this was was actually quite easy to feel good in. There is just one major problem. While I thought the room and bed were clean and fine apparently they were not. My boyfriend and I each walked away in multiple bed bug bites... me with 4 on my legs and him with multiple ones on his upper body and legs. I didn't think much of them at first, they just looked like small red dots but they grew larger and continuously itching. Perhaps we are crazy though. Every other person we spoke with at the resort was having the best time of their life and thought it was such a great place. I don't know if our standards are just too high but in any case I thought I needed to let people know about the bed bugs. I can't stop itching my legs and am so freaked out by these itchy bumps!

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

If you get sick of the resort there is a small restaurant/ bar called Scallywags right across the street from the resort that you can easily walk to and hang out in. On Friday nights they do karaoke and it was interesting to see the locals embrace American pop songs. Also, you have to take a taxi but we visited Margaritaville at night and that was a lot of fun. Definitely doesn't get busy until 11pm though so don't go too early. Fyi, the margaritas are way too strong and not worth the money.

Great vacation!

The Jewel Dunn's Falls was absolutely fantastic! The staff was so helpful. The hotel is small and intimate. Many food options, bars and entertainment. I would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family. The drive to/from the airport is a little long but definitely worth it!

Amazing Getaway!

It was our first time in this hotel...but simply the best. When we arrived at the hotel we were informed that our room was not ready...however, as we waited for our room we were served with a couple of their special drinks of the day..they were delicious and as an apology for the delay, they accommodated us with a free room upgrade. We were very happy as the room we booked was really nice, but this room was beautiful. staff was extremely helpful and polite and catered to our every need..they even went the extra mile and remembered my hubby and I''first name through out our stay we were always greeted very respectfully by our names. The rooms were super clean, restaurants were elegantly adorned and the food was fabulous. The activities were plentiful..and the best part about this resort was that it was an adult-only. It was our first stay here but definitely not our last.

Jewel Dunn's River, Ocho Rios

With the exception of a couple of minor inconveniences, which were handled immediately upon notifying the front desk, I would say the hotel was very good. The staff was excellent and very friendly and tried very hard to make our trip memorable and enjoyable. Rooms and grounds were very clean, restaurants very accessible and the food was well above average, the only complaint I have about the restaurants is that the "Coral cafe" (buffet) was usually closed for dinner, limiting our dining options, however we did not go hungry. The drinks were good and plentiful, with the bartenders trying very hard to make every ones favorite cocktail. I would suggest waiting until arrival to book excursions as we had some difficulty with the excursions booked online. The horseback ride and swim was a lot of fun, climbing Dunn's River falls was incredible and zip-lining was absolutely amazing. All in all a wonderful vacation and we will more than likely return to the Jewel and would definitely recommend it to friends and family.
