Changeover is Hard

Four days before our trip, the hotel was changed over from "Breezes Grand Negril" to "Grand Lido". We were married at this hotel three years ago and loved every minute of it. This year, it seemed like the staff couldn't be bothered, were upset about the transition, and there were upper management breathing down their necks. Service was incredibly slow, parts of the hotel were under construction, and food was only mediocre. Likewise, the beach was crowded and guests would put their towels on chairs overnight to save their spots for the next day. Some of the staff tried to keep an upbeat outlook and told us that in six months the hotel would be way better. Not sure we will return though... A few shining staff members made the vacation bearable: Sacha (Fron Desk), Reando (Bellman), Beatrice (Reggae Cafe), Omar (Guard), Derrick (Chef), Dr. Oz (Watersports), and Novia (Munasan Chef). Jamaicans are amazingly happy people and it was hard to see that so many of them seemed miserable in their jobs this time around. We really hope this hotel gets some help for the better.

A study in Extremes

I had the misfortune of being at this resort the week new owners took over(4/17). The beginning of the week was horrible, having no hot water, couldn't get enough washcloths or towels, power went out, TV went out, and a general lack of concern by employees(I'll bring towels back, They're working on it, poor service at the beach bar). Wednesday it was literally like a light switch was flipped. Everything worked, bartenders would come out on the beach to see if you needed a drink, employees were smiling and offering assistance multiple times, security officers were friendly, I had towels AND washcloths!, and on and on. They even changed the name back to Grand Lido. New ownership was clearly what this resort needed. While somewhat dated, it has a great location and is on beautiful grounds with the best beach on this side of the island. Hopefully the new owners will invest in improvements and return it to it's "Grand" status.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

There is a practice of keeping beach towels and using them to claim beach chairs and locations between 6-8am. As long as there is a towel on the chair no one will take it, so you can go do whatever else you want and keep your chairs all day. Unfortunately this results in many guests being left without a place to enjoy the beach. Get out there early!!

Beautiful location

The hotel was a solid 4 star. Our room was on the clothing optional beach which was nicely secluded from the main beach. Scattered trees gave this end of the resort a rustic feel and filtered sunlight when needed from the Jamacian sun. Our patio was about 12 feet away from the sandy beach and then another 30 feet to the surf. The clothing optional side had its own bar and outdoor grill along side the pool. Great grilled jerk chicken and the fabulous jerk lamb chops. Our room was very clean and large for the two of us. The shower was fantastic. It was very large and had 6 shower heads on the walls. It never ran out of hot water. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. One stood out in particular. Nicola Clark at the front desk made us feel very special. We learned she has been there for several years, what a great asset to the resort. My wife and I had to give her a hug before we left. This was our third trip to a Jamacian resort. The food at Breezes was on par with each one of them. We would surely return to this resort. We did hear that as of April 15, 2013 the resort will be under new management. I can only hope they leave the secluded area as is and retain its Caribbean rustic feel. I have a good hunch that most other resorts wish they had Breezes location. After all, if you visit most other resorts they all look the same.

Breezes has good employees and security

The place needs a little work . I stayed on the. C\O side of beach. Rm1099. Best parts: red stripe on tap; land and ocean scape; their employees and breakfast. Not the best: lunch and dinner; the shower and bed; location was just ok.

Can't beat the weather

So the fact that the rooms weren't luxurous didn't really matter. The beach was huge and sandy, the food was pretty good, and the drinks were strong if you requested them that way!

Great vacation

Perfect getaway. Not close to a big city i.e. Montego Bay, but close enough to town to shop for whatever. Room was very nice. Beach was great with a few trees for shade. Restaurants were very good. Beach gala (pig roast, other favorites) was fun. Included snorkeliong, scuba, sailing at no cost. Highly recommended.
